Kyogre And Groudon Are Headed To Pokémon Black/White 2 In Japan

By Ishaan . November 21, 2012 . 8:30am

Kyogre and Groudon, the mascot legendaries from Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire, are headed to Pokémon Black/White 2 in Japan. Both will be level 100 and will be distributed at Pokémon Centers and select stores in celebration of Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire’s 10th anniversary. The distribution will run from November 21st – January 10th.

Groudon (for Black 2):

Groudon comes with Eruption, Arm Hammer, Earth Power, Solar Beam. He has the Drought ability. The Drought ability has the same effect as the move “Sunny Day,” except that, since it’s an ability, it never wears off. Drought plus Eruption results in a stronger attack. Drought also makes Solar Beam an instant attack, instead of requiring it to charge up first.

Kyogre (for White 2):

Kyogre comes with Water Spout, Thunder, Ice Beam, and Sheer Cold. He has the Drizzle ability. The Drizzle ability is the equivalent of the move “Rain Dance”. Having Drizzle gives Thunder 100% accuracy and Drizzle also makes Water Spout is a stronger attack. Again, since Drizzle is an ability, it never wears off.

Wow one of the best legendaries making its way, I need that Groudon.

    • MrRobbyM

Groudon is right up there in the legendary favorites along with Lugia and Ho-oh. Kyogre is pretty cool too.

      • XYZ_JolteonZ980

It was so hard to choose a favorite in Gold and Silver, I always had to have both Ho-Oh and Lugia.

        • MrRobbyM

Same. Especially since they both have the best stories. There was always something dark and mysterious about the two. But I might be biased since I grew up with Crystal.

Super-subtle hint that R/S remakes are on the way?

    • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

      Not at all.

    • Evan Groman

I would see this as a not-subtle hint that R/S remakes are not on the way at all. This is what they’re marketing as the tenth anniversary event, instead of a remake to mark the tenth anniversary. Isn’t it rather underwhelming?

also, they generally market mascot Pokemon as “you can only get this Pokemon if you buy THIS game,” so it would be very stupid to make Groudon/Kyogre available to everyone without requiring them to purchase the new games. I feel like Groudon/Kyogre’s presence here is just proof that R/S won’t be remade this generation. It’ll be remade in 6th generation for the 3ds, I guess.

      • grevlinghore

They are available in HG / SS though!
And who says remakes HAS to happen on the 10th anniversary? Could you not also interpret this as: “Because of the constant fan-demands, we have begun working on a full scale, 3DS remake of Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire. We`re obviously not done yet, but here, have a Groudon and a Kyogre and take that as you will in the meantime!” ?

        • Evan Groman

HG/SS were remade for their tenth anniversary, but yeah, you’re right. The remake doesn’t have to happen on the tenth anniversary, but that being said it’s just underwhelming to get a little Groudon on the tenth anniversary, and then get a full scale remake a few months later.

I’m just saying that there would be very little point in doing this if remakes were actually on their way this generation. It’ll probably be on 6th gen.

(also, I very highly doubt the first Pokemon game on the 3DS will be a remake.)

          • grevlinghore

I think it makes perfect sense though, if you consider that the 5th gen of pokemon is still fairly fresh and will probably get a few more years of action before a new generation is introduced (It takes a lot of time for the competitive community to get used to a new generation of pokemon).
            - In that case, I think that R / S remakes could actually be what introduces the “6th gen style” / “3DS style” of Pokemon, before the 6th gen is even released :o
I could be wrong, but I don`t think it`s an impossibility!

Ah, yes. Ruby, tied for my most favorite Pokemon game right beside Crystal version.

First pokemon game I ever played (sapphire)

I went back and got crystal and yellow then got fire red and leaf green

  • domonkun

Legendary event Pokémon, Global Link promotions, a new musical, new Pokédex skins, anime-inspired PWT downloads…seems like Japan’s getting everything lately :(

    • TiredOfMyOldUsername

Isn’t it always like that ?
They always get much more of everything then everywhere else in the world.

  • Just Tim

Man, that event Groudon is an attempt to make it into a drought-based special sweeper.

Meanwhile, I’d dump Sheer Cold for Calm Mind or Hydro Pump.

Speaking of R/S remakes in Gen. V, I hope it would allow me to main Mudkip again.  (Yes, I’m doing this post for the meme >_<:)
