In case you’re just getting caught up, Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney takes place in a different time setting than the one each respective series is normally set in. Phoenix, Layton, Luke and Maya find themselves in Labyrinth City, a place where magic appears to be real, and the city is controlled by a shady character known as the Storyteller (the man in the creepy mask).

The story begins with a girl named Mahone, who is about to be prosecuted under suspicion of being a witch, and Phoenix defending her in court. Interestingly, Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney appears to take past events from the two series into account, as the game has Maya commenting at one point that she and Phoenix haven’t seen each other in a while.

Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney will be released on November 29th in Japan.
