I remember playing Duke Nukem 1 some years ago. It’s quite a simplistic game – there are no timers but no real challenges either, so you’ll spend most of the time trying to understand how to get to the end. It’s not bad, although I guess it’s not really great either.

The movement graphic is pretty weird – although I guess it suits the DOS systems’ trouble in performing a smooth scrolling before ModeX were discovered. There is no “scrolling” here, the game keeps your character at the center and “moves” the background by a sprite’s size every time.

It reminds me of Captain Comic (perhaps it was made in the same way).

I played the shareware version of Duke 1 back in the day. It’s decent enough, but not something I’d buy if I hadn’t already played it.

Wow, REAL old-school Duke Nukem? Played that waay back in the day, was kinda fun… weird to think that Duke Nukem watched Oprah Winfrey back in those days, but it’s not like anyone has seen Doctor Proton either so, times change I guess.

That’s fantastic news. I was always curious about the original Duke Nukem games.

By the way, my gratitudes to Ishaan for posting GOG-related news. GOG doesn’t get even nearly as much attention as it deserves.

Do we have to order it from the tiny-tiny listings in the back of a gaming mag by sending a check to Apogee along with a self-addressed envelope for floppies? Or maybe “GOG” is a BBS I need to connect to? Just let me fire up my 2400 baud modem…

Oh GoG, you guys rock. (Aside from that little stunt awhile back about ‘shutting down’)
