New developer, Moby Dick Studio, has announced a new game at the Spike Video Game Awards, titled The Phantom Pain. Take a look at the trailer for the game below:

Moby Dick are based in Sweden. The studio’s website says that the company was “founded by CEO Joakim Mogren who after years of working for a major American developer brought together people out of various game studios from around the Scandinavian area to start something new”.

Is it me, or does the main character look like Snake?

    • http://twitter.com/monkeyking2135 monkey king

That’s because it is snake ;]

      • Domii

        What!?! Who!? Huh??

    • Solomon_Kano

He looks like Snake, the studio’s initials are MDS, Joakim Mogren’s first name is an anagram of Kojima, and it seems we’ve got an homage to a boss or two. That’s all I can muster up on the Kojima conspiracy front lol.

I do hope this is completely unrelated though. I really do. If not, cool, but it’d be even better if this really is something new.

      • Domii

Yeah I should’ve expected crazy Kojima having something to do with this.

        • Solomon_Kano

The man certainly likes dramatizing things lol.

  • http://twitter.com/monkeyking2135 monkey king

This is MGS ground zeroes, kojima trolling everyone

  • DuskSharkEX

    Well darn, trailer’s unavailable.

The name reminds me of this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJXu8OdKO_s
Especially starting at 2:36 and the rest of the video

  • EisKonig

C’mon, that’s just plain crazy u____u You don’t show a page containign the title “The Phantom Pain” to an old die-hard fan of Vagrant Story when the thing’s related to MGS.

I had a heart attack now, for Christ’s sake.

    • http://www.facebook.com/daniel.bowen.9041 Daniel Bowen

I thought the same thing, I was like, oh look its Vagrant Story, when I saw the title.

      • leadintea

        Same. :(

    • samael789

      wat

  • ffboi7

too many hints at another MGS game… Kojima just mindfucking us like usual :P “ahhh I see you play Castlevania!!” <– best mind fuck ever lol

    • Dhruv Rajyagor

Dude….maybe this was an elaborate plot! I mean think about it; both this AND Castlevania got new trailers, and LoS was overseen by Kojima. Plus there were many hints of MGS in Phantom Pain. AND! There was a big giant flaming whale apart of the trailer for Phantom Pain. That whale was big enough to be Moby Dick….Studios! *LE GASP*

Metal Gear Solid 5: Phantom Pain…..telling the tale of Big Boss after his death…in the supernatural world. Considering Metal Gear Solid, ANYTHING can work and STILL be made badass. I mean, who else can make Raiden fight cyborg sewer gorillas while making him wear a sombrero and STILL make Raiden look like a badass?!

    • Dhruv Rajyagor

PLUS! The VGAs made a homage to Kojima and MGS’s 25th anniversary…

  • Guest

This title’s reaaally mean for anyone who’s played and fallen in love with Vagrant Story at some point.

But it’s just Kojima-san, trolling everyone as usual.

  • The_Real_Oyashiro

It has to be related to MGS.

    • Solomon_Kano

      That proves everything!

      • http://twitter.com/#!/kaishou Kaishou

wishful thinking. I rather wait for a confirmation.

        • Solomon_Kano

As would I. It was sarcasm.

    • The_Real_Oyashiro

      Easier to read.

  • Nicolas Vasquez

the moby dick homepage is kinda of a giveaway with the ps3 and xbox 360 logo there, thats not something you put on a studio homepage, rather a game one, and really after the image panda castro posted there is little to say, other than the similarity of snake shoulder patch with the moby dick logo.

  • Dhruv Rajyagor

So I hear on neoGAF that there was no Snake that had a missing limb. I beg to differ, as they forgot about LIQUID SNAKE!!!

    Dun dun DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN

    • Arizato

He missed his right arm. It was the left arm in the trailer. So it can’t be him.

      • http://twitter.com/#!/kaishou Kaishou

        Dun dun DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN *sigh*

  • Dhruv Rajyagor

    Apparently Phantom Pain is physiological.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phantom_pain

And the main character is losing a limb…Coincidence? I THINK NOT!

  • Unlimax

I have a feeling that this Teaser is from MGS:GZ .. I’m not sure but if not it most be “Project Ogre” !

  • Chris Bobb

The Phantom MGSV Pain? I saw this video and the only thing going through my head was “When did Snake lose his arm?”

  • http://www.gamefaqs.com/features/recognition/21421.html?type=4 Kashell

Having just played Vagrant Story, seeing this made me quite disappoint. Not that I was expecting much from these so called VGAs. *sigh* The industry these days…

  • Farid Belkacemi

    I don’t know if it’s a “new” MGS but it’s obviously the Fox Engine… Right ?

  • Nemesis_Dawn

    I love you, Kojima.

  • Brandon001

Did anyone catch these things -

Man on Fire reminded me of The Fury

When Hook Man was about to be shot, a being that looked like Psycho Mantis Floated up.

  • Wig

Oh no, more retcons, just stop it Kojima, it’s not funny anymore.

    • Heartek

(SPOILER) If you’re only referring to the arm loss, I remeber Big Boss wearing gloves in MGS 4, so you could not really tell he didn’t have, let’s say, a prosthetic arm or something. And it think that’s not contradicted by the msx games either. The only problems comes to mind with shinkawa’s renditions of the (spoilers) fake big boss (solidus’) corpse in mgs4.

      • Wig

There’s a radio call in MG 2 that says Big Boss lost his Limbs in the Outer Heaven incident.

  • http://www.twitch.tv/jpnags Jason Naglic

    V has come to!

  • Willi Meyhoff

it seems like no one noticed that at the end of the trailer, when the soldier pushes the “MC”/Big Boss around, the sounds of the “memories/flashback” plays (the one from MGS4)
also his body build is really similar to Big Boss too including the facial hair.
oh and, while it doesn’t really give off a MGS feel, it DOES seem to be stealth theme’d along with some ridiculous… Bosses? that are known in MG lol

  • Heartek

    (SPOILERS) I remeber Big Boss
wearing gloves in MGS 4, so you could not really tell he didn’t have,

with shinkawa’s renditions of the (spoilers) fake big boss (solidus’)

  • OatMatadoQuatro

Metal Gear Solid V? But Big Boss and Snake were gone by Solid 4 (well Snake had few days left), and it would be too deus ex for Kojima to revive them… so it could be a prequel? Still, the title Phantom Pain could refer to something we thought was dead…

And what is all that of a guy that can’t return to reality? Joakim you are doing it again! I haven’t this confused since the first time I reached the climax of Sons of Liberty

  • Nitraion

Damn i can’t see the trailer but judging from comment below..
it seems kojima have codename now gotta stay update ~_~
I am not clicking article right away because of title -_-

  • Isaac Newton

A lost arm hmmm Liquid Snake hehehe *Sarcasms*

  • Göran Isacson

    Sooo.

Hallucinatory flower petals. Volgin walking the flames. Soldiers who seem to not die until they are shot in the head, fire everywhere, unicorns and WHALES (possibly on stilts?) that are also on fire and OF fire. Mysterious helper with a lot of facial scarring apparently, and something which I embarrassingly enough only just NOW figured out…

    V has come to.”

Metal Gear Solid V: Big Boss goes to Silent Hill? Won’t lie, I would play it.

  • brian

    “VGA AWARDS”
I’d think someone making the script of that should have realized that it sounds ridiculous considering that it is basically “video game award awards” just like RPG GAMES being role-playing game games.

  • Solomon_Kano

    Sources? Proof? Reasoning? Logic? Something?

Lots of room for us to speculate on KojiPro’s involvement. It’s clearly something, but who’s reported this as MGS5? Who’s said this is MGS5? Also, it’s doubtful Project Ogre and MGS5 are the same thing. Why would Kojima waste time giving a code name to the game and maintaining its use when he’s already told us that Ground Zeroes is the precursor to MGS5? We know MGS5 is coming, it wouldn’t need a code name.

  • Solomon_Kano

Yea, seems GAF’s been busy since I looked earlier. Gotta love Kojima.
