Welp, was just screaming in the Open Thread about this earlier. YES YES YES I WANT THIS! largely for the new series and the return of voiced Tobikage so I don’t ever have to play Impact for it, as well as the personal wish for Dunbine to return.

OTOH, animations, as a friend of mine comments, seems between L and Z2 quality. Not that it’s an issue for me but I’m sure there are people who are disappointed by this. Fair number of dislikes on that video too, so I’m curious as to exactly which reason it is this time since the last round of screaming about the DS not having voiced SRT.

On a very minor note, I wish we could do away with SEED Destiny by now. Oh well.

Edit: Other minor note: I’ve never thought I’d laugh so hard at leek stabbing.

    • RX79V

It is about heavily reusing assets from L. For instance, cut-in for Nova in UX looks slightly better than L, but much worse than Z2.

      • ThomasTruong

What RX79V said, even though it’s five series being reused spritewise, any SRW game that borrows from a predecessor without the excuse of being a sequel gets major flak from a laziness standpoint. (See SRW L and A Portable).

Whereas games like K, even though the gameplay and song theft was criticized afterward; the cast list reception at first was positive for the all new sprites (minus some enemies from W’s SEED going into K’s SEED Destiny).

      • LynxAmali

It really is only Dancougar’s cutins that look to be reused. But! That was also only one attack shown. I don’t recall Eida having her cutins in the middle of Dan-Stinger in L. I don’t recall her having cutins for that attack at all, actually.

  • Ah I want this so bad…but..but I just can’t play it :<

  • Angel wing

Well, I was impressived after watching the PV.

Maybe I just cant go back with this kind of quality (animation, resolution,…) after playing Z2 and OGS :(

  • fqc

The Z games and 2nd OGs really set the bar high for battle animations

    • LynxAmali

Different engines, I’m pretty sure. Main Saga titles always get more effort put into them anyway. Also, L’s Absolute Nova Beast > Z2’s version.

  • Koji Kabuto

SRW is my favorite franchise, so I´ll have to buy a japanese 3DS

  • ThomasTruong

Tobikage is also Robots Ninjas in Espanol:

  • MrJechgo

Did I… just saw… a Hatsune Miku mech!?

    • That’s the Fei Yen HD version. It was a module in Project Diva Extend.

      • Budgiecat

Mazinkaiser SKL is in the game finally! Are you excited!? I am m/

        • I… I don’t really care for SRT personally, sorry to say. :P

(I am kind of happy to see Tobikage back, though. I used to adore that show as a kid. I don’t think they’ve used that series in a long time.)

  • RX79V

The visual is a bit disappointing, but then again it is NBGI on Nintendo system.
It is such a quirky group of series that I think some people (including me) will still give it a try just to see how the story unfolds. (Just don’t do it like K.)

  • Kaihedgie

Please stop shovin’ Miku in my face everywhere I go :X

  • Just Tim

What’s next, Iron Man, War Machine, AND Sentinel in SRW? xD

(To those who don’t get the joke, Heroman was co-created by Stan Lee.)

  • Tales_of_Master

Considering that I never played a single SRT game before, I’m really interested to get my hand on any one that comes our way. A question for long time fans, did any of the SRT games feature characters from ZOE games ? Because if it never happened, that would be really weird.

    • Godmars

A fan made a graphic of Jehuty – which I can’t find right now.

    • Godmars

      Here it is.

      • Tales_of_Master

The guy who made it did a really good job. Could’ve fooled me into believing it was legit. I find it really weird that with all of the obscure series included in SRT, ZOE isn’t one of them. ZOE seems kind of a no brainer to me :c

    • Altritter

No, it’s never been in. Video games almost never get into SRW, unfortunately. The only thing I can think of is Virtual-ON. It’s a real shame because I’d love for ZoE, Armored Core, Xenogears, etc. to be in.

      • 5parrowhawk

Well, Demonbane was a game before it became an anime. But you could say the same thing for ZoE, since they did make an anime out of it.

Armored Core, Front Mission, White Knight Chronicles(!) and Sakura Wars did show up in a prank article about a fake “new installment” some time ago. But then, so did Dai-Guard and Tetsujin 28-go, both of which made it into the Z series.

Speaking of games, since they’re willing to dip into eroge with Demonbane, where’s my Muv-Luv Alternative? Or Total Eclipse. Or, better yet, both.

        • Altritter

Kind of a late reply, but yeah, I know Demonbane was a VN first. They’re using the anime, though – with some rumors of game stuff included at least, but still the anime – so typically they really don’t like to do things that are not anime. It seems we’re getting some manga Linebarrels in this game though, and Crossbone/Astray have been in the series, so it’s hard to know just what to expect sometimes.

Regarding Muv-Luv, I think that Total Eclipse would get in over Alternative proper, but really, anything can happen.

  • ShinGundam

Lineup seems very weak for an SRW game.

    • MrTyrant

True that. They should announce more series in it.Is this the final line up? i hope not.

      • Kibbitz

Should be final lineup, the magazine scan stated 16 series total, and the one series that Ishaan didn’t mention is Dunbine. In terms of number of series, it’s pretty much similar in terms of series for W,K and L. Not going to comment on lineup, I have no real problems with it.

    • Altritter

I like it. They usually do pretty quirky cast lists for handheld games and I often like them. I’ve been waiting for Heroman, SKL and Demonbane for a while and the fact that Dunbine is returning is great.

      • Kibbitz

Oh yea, man! Definitely with you on Dunbine and SKL, and while I wasn’t every eager for Heroman or Demonbane, I’m always fine with new fresh series. Now all I want from the past now is L-Gaim to return…

        • My Super Robot Damashii screams bring GaoGaiGar back on a HD title~!

          • Kibbitz

I’m cool with that! I was a bit >_> @ GGG after A2, A3 and W in sequence, but they’ve been away for a while and I’m ready for more HAMMER and CRUSHER action!

  • Namuro

The roster is pretty nice with lots of new entries, but I still find it a bit strange that it’s lacking the classics like Getter and Mazinger Z. I guess they’re trying to focus on the newer characters… Anyway, I’m really, really, really happy that Tobikage is in there!

The special 3DS’s design is quite nice and feels nostalgic, but I’d have prefer if they put the picture of the robot group like on the game case cover on there instead. Well, it doesn’t really matter since I’ll be waiting for the special MH4 3DS LL… I just hope it won’t turn out to be something so basic like the black one that’s bundled with 3G.

  • $39420547

is there any chance for this to come to the west?

    • ShinGundam

  • MrTyrant

LoL Hatsume Miku, she even is the pilot.

The animation are lazy because 3DS can do a lot better than this, even the psp ones had better graphics. I think it’s the same director from L and that is obvious.

    • ShinGundam

Yeah, the resolution for the in-game sprites feels like DS+.

  • ThomasTruong

Someone pointed out that they’ve revised a number of the returning sprites around. (Here’s Impulse from L, K, and UX respectively, so good on them for this at least.)

    • MrTyrant

Here is another one, some sprites didn’t change and look worse. The things is that in the trailer some attacks look pixelated.

      • ThomasTruong

Yeah, props for not being Lazy, but those are somewhat fugly. They have this really generic look to them that lack the personality of Alpha 3/Z sprites, and resemble the route they took with Impact/MX sprites.

Although they probably had to redo them all out of necessity to incorporate whatever 3D effect they are tossing in.

        • I dunno I really prefer UX sprite design of Impulse for example, but that’s because it didn’t get a redesign for Z2 but still used the Z1 sprite(which are kinda outdated compared to Z2’s awesome sprites). Nova and VF do look much better in their Z2 sprite versions.

          • ThomasTruong

I think it’s more appealing since it falls into the camp of being less SD and looking more slick, like the Nu Gundam in Z2.

          • MrTyrant

Well some mechs receive more love than others, remember Nu-Gundam animations in Z2? it was amazing and completly new. Maybe they’ll do the same with Destiny, I don’t know.

I hope the original gets some love too. Brasta and Crow were amazing (those attacks are cool for an RR original) but I was a little dissapointed with Li-brasta, at least the Blue one was good.

          • Yeah I really wondered why they redesigned Nu while leaving everything else as is. *shrugs*

Agreed, Brasta was super cool(although long animations are long..) Li-Brasta red had a really sick design and I loved it a lot, but I can’t deny that it’s attack animations were lackluster. Have yet to see Li-Brasta blue. That reminds me Rushbird was the same, cool design, lame animations, lol.

          • ThomasTruong

It’ll all look better in an OG game eventually… 10 years from now.

          • MrTyrant

Li-brasta will be cool in OGs for ps3. They could fix a lot of thing with the animation.

  • Göran Isacson

Can’t say I recognize any series beyond Linebarrels and Macross Frontier, but I still get strangely psyched seeing any new SRW-material. I am just such a sucker for cross-overs that just knowing they exist makes my blood boil with excitement and “who would win” scenarios. I am a mental eight-year old, is what I’m saying.

  • IsaacGravity

Heh. Heroman is a pleasant surprise.

  • Demonebane gonna pawn everything, especially the elder god version.

  • Z3

I’m not really going gaga over the cast exept for 00 Trailblazer. I’m kind of curious how they will handle the storyline with the whole flower thing and the ELS. I hope they make the plot better other than the mess that was the whole movie like they did with Seed/Destiny

  • Will Jay

Yeah, Heroman pretty much is what sold this for me.

  • Visa Vang

I was sold when those leek-green twin tails showed up.

  • neetyneety

Whoa, the inclusion of Demonbane is pretty cool. T’was a very enjoyable VN, and the mecha designs were quite unique.

  • s07195

Awesome 3DS XL. Just like an SRW map!!
I like it’s simple yet effective and cool-looking design.

  • Sam Park

Mazinkaiser SKL and so is Dracouga Nova but i was not expecting a SD Gundam, Heroman (Does he even count?), and Freaking MIKU MECHA
