Whoever’s Playing In This Crysis 3 Video Manages To Make It Look Very Cool

Electronic Arts and Crytek have released a new promo video for Crysis 3, showing off a combat situation from the game, where Prophet needs to put the Nanosuit to good use, in order to keep himself alive. Take a look at it below—it’s fun to watch in that whoever’s playing is doing a pretty good job making the game look cool:

Crysis 3 will be released on February 19th for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Looks just like old Crysis. Also, the guy seems very rambo and misses a lot of shots…

    I don’t play Crysis though.

Hmmm never played crysis before but this really sells it

Crysis, beautiful as ever… If this video had come out 5 years ago people would be saying it’s all pre-rendered just because there is no HUD. Like they said about FFXIII and Killzone 2, and they were right…

The Crysis games are honestly pretty impressive stuff; graphics aside, Crysis 1 was very open-ended in how it let you tackle the missions and gave you plenty of toys to experiment with, as well as looking mind-blowing.

Crysis 2 wasn’t as open but basically gave you free reign to play as you liked; you could be boring and shoot people, or you could play as a Terminator (armour on) kicking cars into people and grabbing them by the necks and throwing them through windows/into explosives/into each other, or you could play as a Predator (stealth on) uncloaking behind a guy, stabbing him, recloaking and moving to the next guy or on out. Even giant pitched skirmishes can be avoided entirely by cloaking and the game won’t stop you!

Hopefully Crysis 3 doesn’t abandon that approach, though it certainly seems like it doesn’t. Not sure why a power-armoured super soldier needs a bow and arrow, but still.

Because silence is golden. Want to reveal your position to a lot of angry soldiers with guns? Just shoot any unsilenced firearm.

Alas, at higher difficulties, Crysis 2 had a lot less freedom. Want to play the Terminator? You can’t, because you’ll die very soon. Want to be boring and shoot people? They’ll ditch you out of your hole eventually. At higher difficulties, the game effectively requires you to use cloak mode much more than the other modes.

Granted, I could say the same about Crysis – that intro trailer was very cool, but in the actual game, don’t even dare get yourself in the open unless you are playing the easiest difficulty level. Armor mode was essentially worthless, strength was only for a couple occasions, speed… well, nevermind that one, it was almost entirely useless.

Essentially, all the Cry games (including Far Cry before them) seemed to play more like stealth shooters. Far Cry in particular was very explicit about the fact that you would have died soon if you had revealed your position, there wasn’t any “armor mode” to give you illusions of grandeur or anything. But at least FC and C1 had you in a huge open world where you could choose which path to take toward your objective. Crysis 2 had none of the sort, and turned into a simple stealth shooter with just a couple branching paths, so to speak.

I wonder about Crysis 3, but admittedly, after the second one, I’m not too interested. It doesn’t help that my PC is just above the minimum requirements… I definitely intend to make this 6770 last a bit longer.

  • Yeah, this is basically Crysis 2.5.
