Street Fighter X Mega Man Update Coming To Address Issues

By Ishaan . December 19, 2012 . 12:40pm

Street Fighter X Mega Man, a fan-game supported and released by Capcom for free, has some issues. Users on the Capcom message boards have brought to attention complaints regarding crashes, the inability to save, and other things that could do with improvements.

In reply to these comments, Capcom’s Senior Vice-President, Christian Svensson, says that he’ll bring these issues up with the game’s development group, and that an update patch will be coming to address them in the future.

Additionally, in another thread on the forums, Svensson says that Street Fighter X Mega Man has exceeded his personal expectations of the game. Keep in mind that this is a free game, though, so expectations being exceeded in this particular case may not mean a whole lot.

  • Am I the only one having very low frame rates? If not, I hope that’ll be among the fixes.

On the plus side, the issue gives me plenty of time to react to whatever the game throws at me for the time being.

    • What’s your comp’s specs if I could ask?

      • It’s not a cutting-edge gaming rig, but it is a quad-core with 4GB RAM and 512Mb GeForce, so I thought that’s far more than enough to run an 8-bit game. I even tried running the game on my netbook and it’s slow there too, so I can only assume that the problem is on the game.

The game’s got some really weird issues. When I first started it, it recognized my gamepad but didn’t assign any buttons to it, preventing me from being able to use the keyboard to even reassign controls. I had to completely unplug my controller to use the keyboard. However, unplugging my controller caused the frame rate to drop dramatically.

So I had to go into the key config, setup keyboard controls, and then plug my gamepad back in to get it to run at full speed again.

      Just weird.

    • The game’s in constant bullet time for me…

The fixes will cost $3,99 each, according to Capcom.

    • -_- … Source?

      • ragingmerifes

        The Onion?

        • …Okay, I’d be lying if I said that punchline wasn’t funny. Still, this sort of jokes on a game that everybody knows is free is kind of unfair, you know. If it’s a game Capcom charged full-price and still had bugs, that’s one thing, but “paid Capcom DLC” jokes are pretty out of place in this case.

          • ragingmerifes

But the joke is directed to Capcom, and not to the game itself. The game is free, but the punchline is that even if it is free, it may be possible for Capcom to be having a scheme to have lucre over it, therefore making fun of its reputation, without touching the game’s attribute of being free.

And explaining a joke makes it lose its funny factor. I lost.

          • Haha~ Sorry, but still doesn’t make sense to me. I think everybody would just drop the game if they pulled something like that. And that’s before the complications of charging for fixing a fan-project they endorsed as an anniversary. So they’re not really in a position to do what you’re implying.

          • ragingmerifes

Of course they won’t do that. It was just a joke. Capcom sometimes do things that make us think they’re mercenaries, and sometimes they don’t, but if I made a joke about how caring and tender Capcom can be… someone would make a joke about Capcom not being like that.

          • neo_firenze

I actually usually think the Capcom DLC rage exhibited by some people is overblown. But I did think your joke was funny :)

    • I lol’d if you makes you feel any better.

I’m pretty sure Capcom could take the hit after the million they’ve already had this year alone so lighten up peeps.

  • Lionxie

Is that FIRE POOP?! Dear god

    • Explosive fire poop, good sir!

  • AzuNo17

Saving in a Megaman game. What?

    • DesmaX

Megaman 2 had a Password system, I don’t see the problem

      • The original Mega Man didn’t.

And it’s about 40 minutes in length.

You know I once livestreamed Mega Man 4 and that took about 2 hours or so. When MM9 and MM10 came out, even though they had saves…I didn’t really rely on them. It’s not impossible to play a game straight through like that.

25 years ago, if you had a battery backup or a password on a game, it was a luxury, not a necessity.

        • Elvick

Yeah, that was 25 years ago.

It’s a standard now. You can still play through in one sitting if you want with a password/save feature.

Not having it is worse than having it. Since people can’t just play at their own pace, unless they keep the game open forever.

    • AkuLord3

the Ps1 megaman games had saving…no surprise

  • PABLO Rapetti Perez

Just asking, but today there was going to be a big Megaman announcement or am my memory is wrong? As relieved I am that they gave a new Megaman game showing some life to the blue bomber, I hope for a new saga or a X 16 bit game. Tired of classic Megaman.

    • They announced some PSN/3DS virtual console classic megaman 8bit download discounts.
      Don’t get your hopes up.

    • AkuLord3

You think they show off some of megaman’s games from each era but nope then again too early to say but for now its just lazy train of rehashing the first 5 games~

      • Paradox me

Capcom said they have a year of Mega Man mapped out in celebration of his 25th anniversary.

Street Fighter X Mega Man was just the start, and while we don’t know if any other major developments will come, let’s enjoy our free game (y’know, something fans have been begging for the last two years) and wait to hear more.

  • Göran Isacson

Well, I was probably not gonna get to play the game until later for unrelated reasons… but hey, if it means I have a patch fixing up some snags in the gameplay when I DO get aruond to play it, score one point for me!

  • Aoshi00

Fix this up, I would even pay to buy it on XBLA/PSN :)

  • Sergio Briceño

More than fixes, I wish the update would bring one more boss before the final fight. Shadaloo isn’t complete without Sagat… :(
