Visit Real Life Japanese Stores To Bring Them Into Magician’s Quest: Town of Magic

Magician’s Quest: Town of Magic has an usual feature that may encourage people to take the game out into the real world—or vice-versa, perhaps.

Town of Magic lets you set up a large shopping mall within its town. You get to decide what stores, cafés and boutiques the mall is going to have, and you can set your own store up within the mall as well.

Konami have tied up with popular Japanese stores like Tsutaya, Aeon and First Kitchen as part of a “Real Shop Download Campaign”. By visiting participating stores in the real world, Magician’s Quest players will be able to obtain those stores within the game. Additionally, if you happen to visit stores on a specific day when they’re running a special campaign (like Aeon’s “Customer Appreciation Day”), those campaigns will be reflected within the in-game store, too.

Additionally, the Nintendo 3DS’ StreetPass function will allow other players’ stores to appear within your game as well. If you happen to pass by another 3DS owner who also has Magician’s Quest: Town of Magic, you’ll find their store popping up in your mall.

Mall feature aside, Magician’s Quest: Town of Magic has the same basic premise as its predecessors. You enroll in a magic academy, interact with your peers and live the lifestyle of a wizard/witch in training.

Magician’s Quest: Town of Magic was released this week in Japan.

I don’t really have a lot of faith for this game getting localized to begin with, but if there’s any chance I hope this feature won’t be regarded as too important as to influence the decision. Like, if they can’t get similar deals with Walmart, Target or Saturn in the West I’d hope they’ll just disable all the Japanese stores from popping up in the game (which would be the default setting anyway), instead of using the lack of product placement as a reason for why they can’t bring the game over to the West.

Predecesors, plural? I did not think there was more than one. Weird.

I think this is the third game. The first one actually came to the states on the DS. I didn’t hear about it until like a billion years later though… Haha… No advertising and all that….

I heard about it from a pretty big preview in Nintendo Power. They seemed pretty excited about it, but yeah……no real advertising that I recall.

It was a good little game, too.

We need this. This and Fantasy Life along with Rune Factory 4. There are just not enough life simulation games!

Well, so much for any chance of seeing this localized.

I… I can’t do that in real life.

    Well, not easily.

That’s really awesome in my opinion.

I mean, if you’re going to do product/store placement. Make it interesting like this and I’m okay with it.
