Square Enix have a growing multimedia franchise called Gyrozetter, and they’re releasing a Nintendo 3DS RPG to expand the series beyond its arcade roots. Gyrozetter is kind of like the Transformers, in that it features cars that can transform into mechs. Here’s a trailer for the 3DS game, Gyrozetter: Wings of the Albatross:

Gyrozetter: Wings of the Albatross will allow players to drive across the game’s maps in car form, but you’ll be able to transform into mech form as well. In battle, the game uses an “Active Gear Battle” system.

Gyrozetter: Wings of the Albatross is slated for release in Spring 2013.

    Yeah! Explosions!

  • Looks cool. But I need to see more gameplay.

    it looks really interesting

  • Looked cool, I really hope the game is good. I’m a big fan of the anime and would definitely buy it if it’s a good game. And I stand by my point. This is the best franchise SquareEnix came up with in god knows how long.

    • You haven’t even seen what it plays like yet. I’m sure people would argue for either Nier or Bravely Default as contenders for that title. :P

      • Nier was only published by Square, and Bravely Default is for me like a reboot/Spinoff series to the FF franchise, nothing new.

        • We don’t know if Gyrozetter is an internally-developed project either, though. I mean, it looks cool, but I wouldn’t call the concept “new” either. There are tons of Transformers games out there. :P

          • I think it is somewhere mentioned that it is developed by Square, but you might be right. Anyway I mean something new from Square, not new overall. And even if the game sucks, the idea is still the best I’ve seen from them, which may or may not speak for their qualities, lol.

I disagree here, it is “really” hard to find a traditional RPG (big if here about this game?) with Mechs, any kind of mechs, let alone a transformable or combine-able one. Most of mech games are strategy or action based or crossovers which leave us who want an RPG with probably 6 or 7 games.

        • ShinGundam

IMO, it doesn’t matter who is developing it as it doesn’t change the fact that this kind of games are so rare.

From what I hear, it’ll play the same as the Arcade game. Then again, I could be misreading things.

        • I kind of doubt that. Arcade games are meant to be played in short bursts. This is an RPG and the trailer showed what looks like a town. :)

This reminds me of Little Battlers, which is a good thing.

Yes they keep the music from the anime! CHOUSOKU HENKEI!!!! Gyrozettahhhhhh! Libird!!!! Even Kakeru, id so import this.

  • Rohan Kishibe

The sword stand off at the end reminded me of Cloud vs Sephiroth battles. Oh squeenix… Why must you tease me so?

  • Looks interesting. Definitely need to check out the anime series as well as wait for more information on the game. Hopefully it turns out well for Square.

I do not know what this game plays like or if it has any connection to the anime that I need to know about- that high-energy theme song combined with awesome transforming car action made me feel like I was eight years old watching Power Rangers all over again. Excitement- I CAN has it.

Now to hope the game itself as actually good! Also, is that music also in the anime?

Ironically, Gyrozetter’s appearance in Super Robot Wars would have helped this franchise significantly, despite SRW K’s bgm plagiarism issue.
