By Ishaan . December 27, 2012 . 8:30am

As previously reported, Vergil is to be added to DmC Devil May Cry as part of a DLC update, following the game’s release. Vergil will come with his own story chapters and style, and Capcom have shared a video showing how he plays. Check it out below:

DmC Devil May Cry will be released on January 25th for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in the U.S. and Europe, with a PC release to follow on January 25th. Pre-ordering the game will give you access to the Vergil DLC for free.

    Good god. Yes.

  • Herok♞

Looks fun and I say its better that you can get this for free if you preorder, that why no one can complain about the dlc being to much or to expensive.

  • Juraraw

    I remain cautiousy optimistic.

  • John Diamond

;/ i wish it came out free as an unlockable. would make the game more worth buying. but at any rate idk what i can say except will this game get a japanese dub?

    • Kris

Nah, DMC has never had Japanese dubs. IIRC, the first time Dante had a Japanese voice actor was Marvel vs Capcom 3.

      • British_Otaku

The first time he got a Japanese voice actor was Devil May Cry’s anime (2007), with Toshiyuki Morikawa cast as Dante. The same Japanese voice actor stuck for Marvel vs Capcom 3 (2011) and likely Project X Zone earlier this year.

Yes, though, the DMC game installments themselves have always been English exclusively.

        • Kris

Ah, cool, I knew I was forgetting something!

Only ever watched the first episode of the anime though, something about it didn’t quite click with me.

  • margherita mastropaolo

    nothing interesting here

Hey Ishaan, sorry to bother you but when I post a comment it disappears when I refresh the page… I dunno what is going on, the only way that it doesn’t disappear if I reply like this.

        • Hmm. That’s odd. Could you tell me which post you were commenting in, and what the comment that disappeared was like?

          • Crok425

My comment was that Ninja Theory is making a good job with the game and I’m really looking forward to it, and when I refresh the page the comment is gone I’ve experiencing this issue from some time now.

          • That’s really odd… it might have been a temporary glitch with Disqus, and if that’s the case, sadly we have no control over Disqus ourselves, since it isn’t our software. :(

Could you try posting it again?

          • Crok425

Done… still nothing… oh well. I’m using twitter by the way.

          • That’s really very odd… Maybe you could try signing up for a Disqus account and linking it with your previous Twitter account? I have to say, I can’t think of anything that could be wrong. I don’t see your comments on the backend either, so they aren’t being moderated or anything…

          • Your post was so wrong that you awoke the dormant AI of this webpage and she erased your post.

It happened the same after the launch of duke nukem forever, when a bunch of kids tried to post something about how good that game was.

      • Ryudo9

Game looks horrible. Awkward as hell gameplay. Music makes my ears bleed…and that’s being nice and calling it music. Demo was bad as well. devil trigger was useless. The game has been pandering. Dante is badly written. Story is propaganda of fox news hatred. Why does Dante have a union jack. Guns are now useless. Controls were awkward as hell. It’s like Ninja Gaiden 3 vs Ninja Gaiden Black. Toned down and blah. Also very easy.

        • See, not so difficult to say what you don’t like about it, is it? That’s all we ask people to do. Now if only the original poster had done that. :P

          • Zarathos No Daimaōh

What’s funny is that i dont see you mods ask others to elaborate or refrain from posting when all they got to say are generic but positive stuff akin to “wow looks cool” …. And when the negativity about the game shows up and is actually expended upon in detailed posts , quite often we’d be told that our points are already made and useless to repeat . But whatever float your boats and well your kingdom your rules obviously

          • Richard N

I think both sides of the table have been repeating the same points for years now anyway.

          • Luna Kazemaru

oh boy this is classic…lmao are you really going there? There is a big difference between posting something positive then posting something uncalled for an completely negative and constructive criticism don’t even try and deluded yourself into thinking other wise.

If you are going to post something of criticism its better to explain it then just post something like ‘its shit’ or whatever with nothing to back it up or just out of pure trolling or fanboyness.

This site has rules for a reason and they are enforced well if there wasn’t any around this site would be a complete mess. If you want a site like that there a plenty of sites I can name you that have no one enforcing the rules set and let fanboy, trolling and just plan shit posting be up and about.

          • Zarathos No Daimaōh

Yes i am going there . People are being asked to develop , good , that’s not my issue there . When they did , a few times in previous thread , not even a week ago they were basically told to shut up , they’ve made their point loud and clear enough time already . Or to simply avoid it , so the convo doesnt degenerate .
But i’ll just give up and drop it .

          • It’s pretty simple, actually. Why do people need a reason to be positive about something? Are you really that jaded that you think people need to be held accountable for being happy about something?

It’s common sense, man, not rocket science. If you like something, great. If you don’t like it, that’s fine, too. You just have to say why, so that you don’t come across as just another cynical Internet jerk.

        • Makapixel

It was stated by the developers that Dante has a Union Jack because it became a sort of symbol for the punk movement which is what this Dante is based on.

        • Richard N

I think the game has a cool art style. Slower but smooth gameplay. Music is hard rock and that’s about it. Demo was a demo. Devil Trigger’s different and challenging. Pandering to more casual gamers I guess. Dante is young and stupid and has always been badly written. Is that any worse than here’s a clone of your mom now die? Punk style. I’ll give you that one. Controlled…. pretty similar, no lock on, but easily adaptable. Never played them. Toned down and still fun. I found it challenging.

        • Gideon de Groodt

If you’re speaking in the trend of Devil May Cry you seem to like it very much..

“Awkward as HELL-” “my ears BLEED..” “Demo was BAD-”

These could all mean positives in that realm. : D
No offence to you though, I’m 100% with you on your comment.

  • Jake Caro

Looks pretty cool! I just hope his story isn’t lame and diluted, not to mention the length.

  • Learii

is just me or does Vergil look like a zombie?

  • Sergio Briceño

Is this a pre-release pre-order pre-quel dlc? If not, then I’ll probably get it when it released on PC.

    • No one knows when during the game’s story the DLC takes place, but yes, it’s free if you pre-order the game before it’s released. If you don’t, you can always buy the DLC later on. The DLC will only be released after the game is out, though, and hasn’t been given a date yet.

      • Sergio Briceño

Then I better pre-pare! (hope it doesn’t come out too forced).

  • Marcelo Henrique Chaves

Didn’t like his movements, at all. Too many pauses between each slash.

I’m curious about what other weapon he will get. Probably fists, cause Dante doesn’t have one.
I played the Demo, and Dante was OK. Nothing impressed me but it was cool to play.
Hope they release another Demo with Vergil playable.

    • AkuLord3

Not going happen…just pre-order (laughs) the game and try him out then

  • eilegz

expected more for something that its 8.95 DLC…. The summoned swords its great but the rest its pretty meh, it have the sluggish feel, they try hard to push fluidity but so far they are losing here…..

Plus this kind of thing should be unlocked after beat the game or something like that….. still dissapointed.

  • xAKUM3TSUx

Thats a good thing, because if Vergil had the EXACT same moves as Dante, could or would you call him Vergil? It’s to be expected right?

  • Kris

    Couple things I noticed:

Vergil’s platforming is really weird… he throws a summoned sword, then teleports to it? I wonder how that could be used in combat. (EDIT: He uses it in the trailer, I missed it on my first viewing. I guess it’s his version of the Angel Lift, but the teleport makes it look cooler!)

He has a diving kick (Killer Bee) that came right out of his Beowulf moveset from DMC3. XD I wonder how you do it? I can’t quite get a read yet on exactly how he’ll play, I wonder how many weapons he’ll have. That “Stomp” move also intrigues me. Maybe he’ll have a hand-to-hand modifier on a trigger or something.

Also, I really don’t like Vergil’s hit sounds here, they sound really insignificant hopefully that’s just for the trailer. :P

That attack at 56 seconds seems to be the new Judgment Cut… Not a fan, personally. Maybe it’ll grow on me, but the old one was ridiculously awesome. This one is not.

Vergil looks incredibly tired, but his face already seems much more emotive than what we’ve seen out of Dante so far. I already like him! I think I remember reading that the actor for Dante did the face capture for Vergil, but I’m not 100% sure…

Lastly, it humored me that he cut the last dude in the trailer in half with an attack called “Divorce.”

Overall, I’m looking forward to checking the DLC out. While DmC doesn’t have the depth of the older games, I’ve had fun with the demo and I’m curious to see what they’ll do with Vergil, mechanically.

EDIT: Also, he has the Angel Dash thing that Dante has! …which I’m not totally in love with, to be honest, but hey, it gives him more mobility!

I wonder how the segmented Devil Trigger gauge works. I’m guessing you lose one for each use of the summoned swords, and maybe for the Doppelganger we saw in the previous trailer. I guess this means Vergil won’t have a traditional DT.

    • colorblindnightmare

Honestly i think this looks pretty good, as far as being tired, from what we know of vergil’s (DmC history anyway) this may be after his foster parents death, so he could be an emotional wreck right about now. Also, i noticed how this judgement cut is fairly similar to the way dante did it in DMC 4 using dark slayer style. TBQH though, i agree, judgment cust in DMC3 felt more like pending doom than SLICESLICESLICESLICESLICE

  • Crok425

Ninja Theory is actually doing a good job with the game, this Vergil fights very similar to the real Vergil, I’m actually impressed, I’m actually looking forward to it :).
By the way, does my comments dissapear after I post them or what?

  • Ryudo9

    Well that sucked

  • ndjn3979

So floaty…I miss when DMC combat was crisp and filled with impact.

    • Greek-God88

you re not alone T T
      I really want a real DMC 5 and not…this.

    • indeed hey. and the gameplay is so loose also.

  • AkuLord3

He looks Drunk…i think he knows what game he’s in :p

  • Richard N

    I dread these DmC articles.

    3 More weeks people!

  • Makapixel

There is no way this is done yet. There is like no impact feel whatsoever. Honestly I’m shocked because for Dante there is at least some sort of visual and physical feel of hitting stuff. With Vergil he is just sort of floating and spinning around cutting through toilet paper. There is a few factors that explain why it feels that way.

One is the sounds effects for the sword seem to be offset and pretty badly at that. Vergil does this spin slash with 2 hits and the sounds do not sync up. There’s a dissonance from player animation to what we hear. Two they aren’t good sound effects to begin with. Three there is like zero hit pause from enemies being slashed with by the sword which leads to the paper feel. It wouldn’t be so bad if they reacted more. Four is the music/sound sounds like it’s being played on an old radio.

I just hope that this is still in the polishing stage and that this video is poorly compressed otherwise…what the heck?

  • The New Virgil is way cooler than the New Dante. Is there a way I can just play Virgil’s DLC without having to purchase the game? Yeah, even though I’m tolerating it, I still don’t like the New Dante.

  • Tien Ron

awwww i liked Virgil sane hairstyle lol i hope you can change that

  • Valtiel Ikari

Kinda feeling better combat from Vergil’s side in regards of speed, but seems that there isn’t exactly a “hit” feel to his slasehs, might be the sound effect.

and it’s curious how AU Vergil looks more like Real Dante than AU Dante XD

    • Yeah, which is somewhat ironic. He’s like Classic Dante albeit shorter hairstyle.

  • Speedo Redempteur

a set of mostly finishers without context.. and platforming ..

in a sense that should be enough to warm up people who don’t care about gameplay..but it’s yet another Vid where all my fears about this game gameplay is confirmed.
i guess there is another character aside from “DONTE” in this game..oh wait ..dlc ..

  • Crok425

Ninja Theory is making a good job with the game and I’m really looking forward to it.

  • I can see this game to be “not good by modern standard”, but it will do well.

  • XiaomuArisu

Would be awesome if this was unlockable in game…
you see the credits and BAM suddenly Vergil!

  • Göran Isacson

Still can’t say I really get how this preordering business works here in the EU, if I need to go to a specific store or if it’s just any store at all that works.

At any rate- looks like Vergil is somehow trying to escape Hell and heading for that shiny orb… a way out, perhaps? Or a way deeper down? I don’t know if he’s trying to challenge Mundus here as he did in DMC3’s ending, or if he’s trying to get out.

Other things of note- was that the attack from DMC4’s Dark Slayer style I saw there, when you make slashes appear near or far away from you?

  • Scallion

I’m going to buy this just to irritate all of the naysayers and give NT the chance to make at least two more sequels.

    • Scallion

Oh, can you just be honest and admit you don’t like it because they don’t look like anime characters anymore? Thanks.
