Ragnarok Online 2 Open Beta Delayed To January 3rd

By Ishaan . December 28, 2012 . 10:35am

The Ragnarok Online 2 open beta for English-speaking players was scheduled to launch yesterday, December 27th, with online games portal PlayPark and MMO publisher, Asiasoft Online, handling the game.

Unfortunately, it appears that the two companies weren’t fully prepared for the response the beta would receive from players. An overwhelming response from players caused “severe congestion” of the Ragnarok Online 2 open beta servers and websites, Asiasoft Online stated in a press release today.

As a result, the Ragnarok Online 2 open beta has been delayed to January 3rd. All open beta character data has also been wiped until the open beta starts over on the 3rd.

“After careful and deliberate consideration, Asiasoft has decided to reschedule OBT to 3rd January 2013 to ensure that all issues are resolved before the game proceeds any further and to prevent any further disappointment,” Asiasoft’s press release reads.

“The regretful decision to reset all character data with wipe just before the servers reopen official on 3rd January 2013 was also made in order for the publisher and game developers to be fair to the majority of players who were unable to access the game servers last night.”

Additionally, Sherman Tan, Chairman of Asiasoft Online, posted a lengthy message to the Ragnarok Online 2 Facebook page, offering his apologies for the complications and asking players for their understanding.

Part of Tan’s message reads: “We know that this decision will anger and upset many of our treasured players, and while we earnestly wish to cater to every single player’s wants and needs, our top priority remains in stabilising the game servers so that all Asgardians can enjoy it, and being as fair as possible to the majority of our players who were not at all able to access Open Beta on 27th December 2012. We seek your rational understanding of our very difficult decision and hope that you will accept our gravest apologies.”

Asiasoft Online will be conducting stress tests on Ragnarok Online 2 from now until the open beta begins again, in order to resolve server issues, and are inviting players to join the effort if they wish to help out.

I remember this bombing YEARS ago. Didn’t they remake it or something?

    • Yes. This is a completely different game from the one that was around several years a go.

      • Lightthrower

I hope they didn’t make a WoW clone…… are the cards back atleast with the 1/10000 drop rate? I hope so o_O

        • Achrmaeiad

Cards are back, but they don’t work like they did in RO. You have special card slots that exist outside of gear, and pretty much all the cards are stat boosts only. There really aren’t ones with special effects like in RO.

Disclaimer: I played this earlier this year and things may have changed since I did.

        Cool, that’s a relief.

  • Tristan Diaz

So disappointed ..I lost so many hours of sleep just trying to get online with this game…Plus character data being wiped! :(

Asiasoft, delivering quality as usual. I used to play some of their games. MapleSEA (quit due to the community going from bad to worse+hackers), KongKongSEA (bouncing racing game that got closed down), GrandChaseSEA (been a active player since the closed beta, until they closed the servers on my birthday, citing that they decided to direct their investments towards other games, that being of SuddenAttackSEA and Maple). Needless to say, I have stayed away from them as much as I can, and directed my attention to console games instead.

Ragnarok Online 2: The Duke Nukem Forever of MMOs x3

Seriously, this game has been in development since I was in high school.

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

Yeah I was pretty disappointed. Got all hyped up for nothing. Plus, they lost a lot of players due to this, like me.

  • DanteJones

Disappointing that it was pushed back, but at least its just until next week. No problem, I can wait.

  • You know they DO kind of call it a beta for a reason.

Just saying, to those of you that think this dev period is in any way supposed to be completely stable. It’s like this on any game. Now I’d understand the rage if it was out of beta but it’s not. Give them time – we’ve already been waiting long enough as it is, I’m pretty sure further won’t hurt if you were dead set on this to begin with.

  • Go2hell66

well at least i managed to play it for 5min before they shut the servers down

just getting the game to start up was already a mission

  • Achrmaeiad

Decent game, but unless it has changed since I played it earlier this year, it doesn’t take very long to reach max level and when you do there isn’t much to keep your attention.

  • Marcelo Henrique Chaves

Maybe they will release in a bundle with FF XIII Versus.

  • Has the game aged well at all? It looked okayish when I first got my eyes on it, but that was 6 YEARS AGO. Seriously, development hell doesn’t even begin to describe what this game has gone through. It makes FF XIV look like a minor misstep.

  • Was looking forward to trying this out. “Sigh” O well, it’s only a week.

  • Adam Bell

I love all these people bitching about how they won’t play because of what happened, and how the game lost a bunch of people. Well good damn riddance, cause its a beta test which means they’re not running it to serve your ends, they’re running it so we can hammer away and make all the bugs crawl up out of the woodwork.

As for the graphical thing someone mentioned. I mean come on, seriously? Are you really that much of a die hard about graphics? Go play RO1, oh wait never mind, you won’t cause the graphics are SOOOOO old. Learn when to complain about something worth it and when to just shut up. They don’t look bad for an mmo, especially compared to WoW, but being on the lower end allows more people to play the game and it looks like a nice, updated RO visually in my opinion. The screenshot on this page looks kind of awful actually, go watch the teaser video, looks like other anime-ish RPGs, no complaints here.

an update: Ragnarok Online 2 OBT only accept players from Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. It’s unknown whose to blame, Asiasoft or Gravity. https://www.facebook.com/PlayRO2/posts/146901375461895
