By Ishaan . December 29, 2012 . 3:00pm

Pokémon-related news is coming in a bit over a week, according to a teaser at the end of a Pokémon Black/White 2 trailer that’s currently airing in Japan.

According to the teaser, Serebii.net reports, the next big news related to Pokémon will be revealed on January 8th. No further details have been provided, such as just what this news pertains to.

Earlier in the month, we reported that CoroCoro magazine in Japan had a New Year’s greeting from Game Freak, stating that they will work toward evolving the Pokémon world in 2013.

A real Pokemon dating sim would be more like mystery dungeon.

      • Renaldi Saputra

        seems it doesn’t suit

Comes complete with a one-liner and a request to be registered on the Pokegear.

  • LinkofCourage

Sounds like gen 6, new games are usually announced around that time, and it seems like the anime is wrapping up.

    • I’d be pleased. Hopefully they make some cool Pokemon that aren’t ice cream and a trash bag. :/

      • Pockystix

I’m sure they’ll make more balls and boulders

      • Brian Iraheta

        But I liked vanilluxe :3

        • Renaldi Saputra

you like to eat it bcos it’s yummy right??

      • Samurai Don

The Vanillte line and Trubbish line are cool and are no different from the others 649 pokémon.

        • They are NOT cool. And I do not know what you mean by no different.

          • Lima99

maybe he means cool as in, ice cream is cold therefore cool and trash is usually wet, so cool?

          • I like the pun that the first can induce, and believe me you I thought of it several times. The second… no just no. Garbage is all he is. Literally.

          • Symbol de Au

How could smiling ice cream not be cool? Also by no different see Grimer.

          • I hate Grimer too, and Muk, and Ditto’s design though DItto servers a purpose.

          • Symbol de Au

Then how do you not understand that they’re the same?

          • Samurai Don

Ugh I hate it when people try to pass their opinion as fact.

There is nothing wrong with Vanillte line and Trubbish line design as they are no different from pokémon based on man made design or pokémon that aren’t.

All of the 649 pokémon design had always been simple both those pokémon reflect that.

What is it about the Vanillte line and Trubbish line that you don’t like?

      • LinkofCourage

Much more interesting than an exploding pokeball or a walking coconut tree if you ask me.

        • Renaldi Saputra

          or a pokeball shaped mushroom

      • Renaldi Saputra

        what about that Hagurumon??

        • What about who now? Is that a digimon?

          • Renaldi Saputra

            the klink/giaru, Hagurumon’s siblings

          • lol Oh yeah? They were really unoriginal with that name. xD Uh I dunno Klink/Klinkklank is like Magnemite… I mean it is a little meh, but not as bad as ice cream and garbage.

          • Renaldi Saputra

well, it’s a gear shaped pokemon.. when I first saw it in B/W, it reminded me of that Hagurumon.. haha

umm, at least I agree it wasn’t as bad as ice cream, garbage, pokeball painted mushroom, and a deformed knight wannabee..

          • Wait deformed knight wannabe? Which is that.

          • Renaldi Saputra
          • Oh him… lol

    • Axl_abe

wrapping up? its only 20 eps into black and white season 2 >_>

      • LinkofCourage

By wrapping up, I mean that the anime should be in its final arc with N, unless there is a filler arc between now and September, which by then the series should have concluded.

        • Renaldi Saputra

dude, most of pokemon episodes are clearly filler.. around 95% of those 700++ episodes

    • I’d say gen 6 is another year or two off.

      • oldmanjenkins44

In recent generations, each one has lasted four years. I wouldn’t expect anything Gen VI until 2015

        • Uh…we’re in gen 5 right now. >_>

          • oldmanjenkins44

Sorry, I’m editing now. Gen VI.

    • I doubt it… I call RSE remakes.

      • LinkofCourage

        Nope, gen 6 first.

        • Miss_Madness

They normally have a pattern out after a new gen then there a remake.

        • Yeah, because you say so.

          • LinkofCourage

No, because it makes sense. Why start out with remakes in gen 5 when gen 6 is surely on the way?

          • How would you? How are you so sure? I don’t see any proof, patterns?

          • LinkofCourage

How would I what? Introduce Pokemon on 3DS? I’d make a new pair of mainline games, the usual third version, and the gen 3 remakes can come later. There is a pattern for introducing new pokemon. Lets use 2010 for reference. We learn of a new movie in the works, then it’s title, an incomplete title though.(Phantom Ruler Z, Extreme Speed Genesect) Merchandise pops up with “mystery pokemon”, could be new pokemon, or new forms of existing pokemon. Then early in the new year, a date is given for a “shocking announcement” regarding the series. Masuda appears, revealing said announcement, maybe a new pokemon, like Zorua and Zoroark. Then we get the full movie title(Zoroark: Master of Illusions, Genesect and ???). Yes, it could just be a new Genesect form or something, but the timeframe seems right for a new pokemon reveal. Then again, I said that last year…

  • Pokemon Grand Adventure:Advent into the Abyss HD Version Ultima?

  • SirRichard

Depends on what they define “big news” as, for all we know they’re talking about the millionth movie or something. Perhaps it’s just me, but it seems a bit too early for Gen 6, unless Nintendo are really pushing for something to further bolster the 3DS’ vicegrip on the market.

    • Even if this isn’t generation 6 stuff it isn’t far off. They need to make a 3ds main Pokemon game soon. 3DS has been out for 2 years? And we have no mainline Pokemon yet so yah… That and the anime is ending apparently, I never watch it so I wouldn’t know.

      • SirRichard

The DS didn’t get its main Pokémon game until two years into its lifespan (nearly three years for everyone outside Japan, in fact), so there’s no real rush. I suppose it is Nintendo looking to bolster the 3DS more or something, but it still seems a bit early to start getting into a new Generation when the fifth barely stretched its legs.

        • Samurai Don

It will have been nearly 2 years since the release of the 3DS in Japan.

Furthermore we knew about some of the 4th Gen before the release of Diamond and Pearl, so it isn’t too early for any 6th Pokémon to start rearing their head.

Plus the fact that we got Pokémon Black and White 2 is pretty much Game Freak way of saying that Fifth generation is soon coming to an end.

    • Ben Sylvia

Well they did release ALL 3 EVENT LEGENDARIES THIS YEAR.

4th gen’s event legends took at least 4 years for them to release all 3.

      It comes.

  • Pokemon Black & White 3!

    • Renaldi Saputra

it would be sick for sure..

  • KHSoraKeyBlade

I’m hoping for a Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald remake, preferably for the 3DS.

    • If they do that… then it will get confusing as hell. Would it be 5th gen or 6th? If it is 5th then how will it interact with B/W/B2/W2. If it is 6th then where the hell are the main games for the 6th gen. It wouldn’t make sense for it to be a R/S remake at this point. At least not on the 3DS, but to put out another game on DS would be blasphemy so… not likely.

      • Likely 5th gen. Handy chart:

3rd gen met with Fire Red/Leaf Green (1st)
4th gen met with Heart Gold/Soul Silver (2nd)
        5th gen met with ??? Ruby/ ??? Sapphire (3rd)

        Pretty basic assumption.

        • I know it would make sense in that respect, but 5th gen has been so flopped up.

        • Evan Groman

I don’t think that’s a “pretty basic assumption.” If the RSE remakes are on the 3DS as the post says, then it will be very unclear regarding whether they’re fifth gen or not. If they’re using the same engine that 6th gen will use (i.e. Pokemon on the 3DS) then can you really call it 5th gen?

          • KHSoraKeyBlade

Well, Pokemon Gold and Silver were (although marketed as Color titles) Game Boy games. Crystal on the other hand was only for the Game Boy Color. They were both part of the 2nd Gen.

Why does a game being on the 3DS mean that it can’t be part of the same current Gen?

          • oldmanjenkins44

They are not necessarily putting the games on 6th gen engine. At the bear minimum all they have to do is take the top screen of Black and White and make it widescreen.

      • KHSoraKeyBlade

I see no reason why there shouldn’t be a remake. Both Gen 1 and 2 got the remake treatment 8yrs and 10yrs after their originals and we’ve already passed the 10th year of R/S release in Japan, so why not?

It is far too early to jump into the 6th Gen. The 4th Gen lasted 4 years but we had enough games released to get well used to it, I would like to see more 5th Gen titles whether they be spin-offs, remakes or main titles before we see another 100+ new Pokemon added to the already massive list we have. Just be patient and the 6th Gen will arrive, who knows maybe for the 20th anniversary or something.

        • Godman

Well the first two gens were unable to send Pokemon to Gen III
due to the EV overhaul, so It would make sense why they would want to remake them. You are still able to bring Pokemon from Gen III to Gen IV to Gen V

I mean I’m all for remaking my favorite Gen, so the only reason I see is that the modern Handheld-consoles lack the GBA port.

It can work especially if GF wants to utilize the full potential of the 3DS. Then they use the remakes as a way to put off Gen VI to make it even better!

        • Did you not see my reasoning though? I didn’t say R/S won’t get remakes. There are many things hinting at it, but it would likely be after the main 6th gen games are out, and be released as a 6th gen remake.

      • LynxAmali

Except it does make sense. It’s still fifth Gen.

        Gen 3 got FireRed/LeafGreen.
        Gen 4 got HeartGold, Soulsilver
        Gen 5 gets ????

        • LIke I said below that is the only way it does make sense but generation 5 is so messed up you can’t take anything as 100%.

      • Pokemon generations have nothing to do with their respective consoles (see: D/P and B/W both being DS titles). We simply call it a new generation when new pokemon are introduced. Only because the pokemon from newer generations aren’t in the code of the older generation games is it that generations cannot fully interact with each other – hence the differentiation between individual generations. But the connectivity between different consoles is no issue! You could battle a friend in B/W while you use a DS and your friend uses a 3DS. And you can also send over old pokemon from the GBA to the DS since that one-way transfer mode is an environment where you couldn’t introduce new pokemon to an older game.
Actually it would make perfect sense to remake R/S for the 3DS at this point, because that way they could introduce and test new features without the pressure of having to make a completely new game. Main games always sell more, so a remake of an older generation would be a safer testing ground for the series’ step into 3D.

    • All for it. Hoenn’s my favorite region. BRING ON THE WATER!

      • Barrylocke89

It’s funny that Hoenn’s been getting a lot more love recently, especially since a lot of people used to rag on it before. The watery/naturey style of that region was always kinda cool.

BTW, what’s the general region style of Unova and Sinnoh? I’ve never played any of the DS generation games, except HG, which of course is Johto.

        • Evan Groman

I think Unova comes off as being far more city-ish. I don’t know. In Hoenn you always felt like you were in a big forest, even when you were in cities, but Black/White feels like a modern world which makes the world feel pretty boring, I think. On the other hand, it has seasons, which makes the nature aspect more advanced, so you might like that if you liked RSE’s “naturey” style.

And in terms of nature Sinnoh is pretty much identical to Hoenn, at least the way I remember it. It also has snow, if that helps.

          • I think what makes it so boring to be in is the fact that most US players are in these kinds of places, so there isn’t any foreign feel to it, like you get in other regions.

        • Vennamon

          I quote from Bulbapedia:

Unova: “In his director’s column, Junichi Masuda suggested that the geographical and social background for Unova draws inspiration from the New York City metropolitan area, although the region features rural locations as well as industrial.”

Sinnoh: “The geography of the Sinnoh is based on the geography of the Japanese island of Hokkaido and southern part of the Russian island of Kunashir, which is claimed by the Japanese government. Part of Sakhalin (Japanese: 樺太 Karafuto) and Kunashir Island (Japanese: 国後島 Kunashiri Island), territories which are in dispute between Russia and Japan, are also included. Sinnoh has been said to be an island like Hoenn, rather than a peninsula.”

        • I admit, when you get Surf, it can be tedious when you’re swimming all over the place and every 2 steps is some swimming trainer fodder battle, the other things (hidden caves, the Kyogre/Groudon battle, Deoxys event) made up for it. Hoenn is also the only region with references to outer space and space travel, and it also had my favorite region legendaries.

However, the games did have their faults. They looked graphically different from the other versions before (which never bothered me), and worst of all, BARELY ANY post-game things to do. But this can all be fixed in the remakes and then some, especially with all the fluff they managed to add between BW1 and 2, not to mention that those games are still within one region.

TL;DR-RSE sure had faults, but remake can do so much to rectify it.

          • Barrylocke89

Another thing I really liked about the Hoenn games is that they were the first games that REALLY started to sound good musically. The original 1st and 2nd gen games had some awesome tunes that I get nostalgia-fuzzies for sometimes, but the GBA really helped with the sound quality. The Hoenn games still have my favorite Wild Battle theme, and my 2nd favorite Rival theme (only the rival theme in the 4th gen Johto remakes tops it)

          • oldmanjenkins44

They probably will add more to do after the elite four, considering that every pokemon game since firered and leafgreen have been doing that since.

The question is can they surpass the extra content of the Johto games? HeartGold and SoulSilver have more to do after the game is over than any other game, and in second place to that is Gold and Silver. If Game Freak can pull off having more after pokemon league content than the Johto games, everyone will be blown away.

Also, they could make sootopolis look really cool with the new camera stuff in Black and White

      • ShawnOtakuSomething

        mine too!

    • oldmanjenkins44

January 8th sounds like the time when there would be a Nintendo direct, but I may be wrong. Hopefully its Hoenn remakes, or POKEMON GAMES ON THE ESHOP!!!

  • Ben Sylvia

    6th Generation is coming.

    Hold onto your Pokeballs.

    • Under what assumption? Fifth gen is honestly barely out of the gate. 6th gen 2013 would be quite fast for a generation, considering most take 3 or 4 years.

I wouldn’t say gen 6 (maybe 7, depending) is good to go until just before or at the time the 20th anniversary rolls around near 2015.

      • 5th gen has been around for 3-4 years in 2013. It is coming.

        • September 18, 2010 – Release date for B/W in Japan
March 6, 2011 – Release date for B/W in NA

I’m not a math major but that isn’t 3-4 years yet.

          • LinkofCourage

Under the assumption that the next games come next September like usual, it will have been exactly 3 years since gen 5.

          • Exactly.

          • 2013-2010=3 Ignore the months and days it can be announced before release. So up yours.

          • Not necessary to insult.

          • Yes. Sorry. I do apologize. I take it a little harshly when people criticize me, and my intelligence. I am sorry.

      • TiredOfMyOldUsername

It might be 6th gen since until now every first entry from the main serie they have released a new handheld was a new generation.

  • I can just see all the random new names of Pokemon now lol

    • Renaldi Saputra

what do u mean by random names?

  • nirvana123

I think its some of the pokemon games coming to eshop with online

    • That actually wouldn’t be a bad idea…and probably more likely to happen too with the way things have been going for eShop titles as of late. Having RBY in their original forms on the 3DS eShop would be an easy way for them to make some money, especially since these titles can easily sell online for 20-30 bucks still.

A co-worker of mine actually bought Crystal over the holidays from eBay for her son for that price, so it being sold for far less than that would definitely get some cashflow.

      • nirvana123

Well the biggest problem with those cartridges is the they no longer save data or are close to not being able to. Its actually what makes me want a remake of RSE out of fear because i love gen and its amazing sound track.

        • Actually it’s common practice to have those batteries checked. If they aren’t working, then they are typically replaced with batteries that do (this is commonly CR2015 or CR1616 depending on what version of Pokemon with Crystal being either). It’s not uncommon to see a resolder/replacement job done on a lot of those titles sold online.

    • oldmanjenkins44

They just need to implement a link cable feature into the virtual console emulator. Then pokemon can be traded and battled between games.

Also, it would be even more awesome if they implemented a way to transfer pokemon from those old games into a new game. All that is needed is a pokemon computer app that snatches pokemon from the game, and then they can go to another game via download play or the Pal Park.

  • Maybe they could put in Orre as a post game region to explore?

    • Vennamon

Let us hope this true. Orre had Team Cipher which is Pokemon’s equivalent to the Umbrella Corporation and made the storyline significantly enticing. Also a pre-gym which begs the possibility of it returning with full fledged one.

  • Evan Groman

Guys, it’s either going to be a RSE remake OR for the 3ds. It’s not going to be a RSE remake for the 3DS, because that would mean that 5th generation’s main games are on an inferior system than the remakes in 5th generation, which never happened and will never happen. The whole idea of remakes is recreating the old world using current technology. Like, “what if they made Red/Blue again now that the games are on the GBA?” or “what if they made Gold/Silver again now that the games are on the DS?”

But something that’s definitely not going to happen is a remake appearing on a console before a main series game does. They want to waste all of their “NEW AND AMAZING FEATURES!!!!” horsepower on main series games, they would not make the first 3DS Pokemon game a remake. If you want RSE on the 3DS, then wait for the main series 6th gen games first.

  • komiko12

If you want an RSE remake for the 3DS, then you should wish for a Gen 6 for the 3DS. It would suck if you can’t have Gen 6 Pokemon on the RSE remake despite being both made for the 3DS.

    • That is partially my thinking.

  • They need to bring it with a cross platform title (Wii u / 3DS) which involves both online play & NFC..

    • That would be pretty sweet actually. lol Though I don’t see it happening.

  • They’re making a new main series game. It will follow the “Pokemon formula”. It will be for the 3DS, and contain mild graphical improvements, as well as 100 or so new Pokemon. The game’s mechanics will remain almost completely unchanged. It will sell through the roof.

    • I’d buy it. But I hope they change the mechanics a little bit. I mean they always do.

    • Luna Kazemaru

So just like CoD just people will not bash it *Kappa*

      • Elvick

People do bash Pokemon for that…

    • komiko12

They should definitely improve the graphics especially in battles.
It irked me when you can almost see the pixels of your Pokemon while your opponent’s Pokemon were looking good during Pokemon battles.

  • Lima99

probably just a downloadable pokemon or tournament.

  • Suicunesol

…it’s hard to say. You might say that it’s too early for Gen 6. It kind of is, but then we’ve never had two generations on the same console before, and the 3DS has been out for 2 years. If Gen 6 doesn’t start happening soon, I feel as though 3DS might lose relevance, especially in the West.

R/S remakes? No, I don’t think so. Don’t get me wrong–I’d love them, but I would personally rather have Gamefreak make a brand-new game with their brand-new engine first, then use that engine to make the remakes.

My personal opinion is that the reveal will be a new Pokemon silhouette from Gen 6, but won’t necessarily be a game announcement (yet).

    • A Pokemon silhouette… they would. xD

  • Joseph Steinhilpert

two things I can see 1 everyone seems to get is possible remake of gen 3 which lot people seem to hate but after a while like never get that about people. or second possible future pokemon title again ash in the anime/cartoon is nearing the pokemon league some times he goes off on another adventure like oj islands afterwards or everything just calms down then next generation of pokemon happens which may happen so who knows jan 8th holds the info

  • Shadowman

Maybe a Pokemon SNAP for the 3DS, or maybe an 3D adventure just like the Pokemon on the gamecube!!!

  • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

Maybe after a decade they’ll finally do something new? There’s so much potential for innovation in both the 3DS and Wii U that if they just stick to the basic formula it’ll be a joke~.

  • OatMatadoQuatro

A game for a main console based on the new generation?

  • I wanna 3d pokemon adventure game just like the gamecube one:)

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

    It might not be gen-6 yet its to soon, It might be a new Spin-off or something mind blowing. I’m kinda hopping for something on the wii-u (Pokemon stadium 3 or Colosseum.) orrrrrrrrrr :| Reburst thing where humans can turn into pokemon :{

    • Renaldi Saputra

yep, gen 6 is too soon..
      whut?? reburst game?? LOL

      • ShawnOtakuSomething

        it would something new lol

        • Renaldi Saputra

so it’s not “gotta catch ’em all” anymore,
          but changed into “SPIRIT EVOLUTION!!!”
          well, you know..

  • phangtom

The Big News: You get to catch them all!… AGAIN! No matter what happens, I love Pokemon. :’)
