Meet Fire Emblem: Awakening’s Chrom, Frederick And Lissa

By Ishaan . January 2, 2013 . 8:30am

Nintendo have been posting character art and brief descriptions from Fire Emblem: Awakening to their Nintendo 3DS Facebook page. They plan on adding more from now up until the game’s release in February. So far, they’ve shared three profiles—Chrom, Frederick and Lisa. You can check them out below.

The prince of Ylisse and descendant of the Hero-King, Chrom leads a band of soldiers called Shepherds to defend the borders of his kingdom.

Chrom’s lieutenant, Frederick. Frederick is a Ylissean knight who is sincere to a fault. He demands tremendous effort from the other Shepherds who fight alongside him to defend the borders of Ylisse.

Chrom’s tomboyish little sister, Lissa, joins the Shepherds and fights alongside her brother to defend Ylisse from Plegian bandits.

Fire Emblem: Awakening will be released on February 4th in North America and sometime during April in Europe.

  • So do they all wear 2 different colored boots or did the artist just go way overboard with shadowing on the back leg in each of these?

    • I thought the same thing at first. It’s just the shading.

    • first one has a different boot, second one is just shading.

    • lanmanna

Reminds me of the first Sonic Riders art.

  • raitouniverse

So if Lissa falls on people from above, she kills them? Can you air drop her or something? Because that wire frame looks pretty lethal

    • Leonardo Duarte

      I thought the same.

  • Ethan_Twain

I’m gonna be honest, the lace and the hoop skirt aren’t really screaming tomboy to me. Still, I dig the art. Fire Emblem has done a pretty great job of establishing this look that’s just BARELY cel shaded. I like it. Just a little bit of extra color saturation and black outlines thin enough that they don’t interfere with detail. I look forward to Fire Emblem that’s able to execute this art outside of their CG cutscenes – maybe this will be the one!

    • puchinri

That’s why I’m glad actually. Her design doesn’t stereotype her as a tomboy, but at the same time, it’s not as though someone can’t like being a tomboy and enjoy feminine-wear (kudos to the team if that’s how they handled it, too!). I’m wondered if it’s partly undone to imply her active/tomboy style though?

The art is great though, and everyone looks cool.

      • Barrylocke89

I just realized that the “tomboyish” part of her design is probably the fact that we can see the hoopskirt frame at all. A “real” lady would probably stand still and not let others see her hoops at all. The fact that we CAN see it implys that she’s more active and likes to move around alot, resulting in her minor wardrobe malfunction.

Perhaps she should follow in the footsteps of fellow SRPG heroine Yggdra (from Yggdra Union) and invest in a corset. Ladylike, while still looking somewhat neat when she goes into her own tomboyish tendencies.

        • Arrei

Aren’t corsets like the epitome of old fashioned girly-wear, though?

          And horribly uncomfortable to boot?

          • Barrylocke89

True…but thanks to the magic of anime clothing, Yggdra is able to keep her corset tight and allowing her full movement even when clashing with the Empire.

        • puchinri

I was considering that. The fact that the hoop is visible and that everything isn’t all perfectly pretty, prim and proper says quite a bit.

    • Suicunesol

Though it’s a bit of a minor spoiler, when Lisa promotes she can wield an axe and her dress gets armor. :)

      • puchinri

        That. Is awesome~. ♥

  • Izzy Miyake

Already preordering at gamestop. Now if they have an option for switching to JP voiceovers I’m sold.

That or you know, a LE FE 3DS XL.

    • puchinri

Both of those would be. . . orgasmic, to be honest. But one or the other would be absolutely fantastic.

  • puchinri

Hum. I wouldn’t have taken Lissa for a tomboy, but I suppose that speaks to her design being a good job. They all sound like interesting enough characters so far (given trailer and ND videos plus profiles), and I’m looking forward to playing the game. Also, Chrom is pretty sexy. Are we able to marry him?

    • AzureRyuujin

Yes, the player avatar can marry him.

      • Enma_Kozato

and it’s a pretty popular ship

        • puchinri

I’d bet. And I can see why. Unf.

      • puchinri

        Oh. Yes. Gorgeousness. Thank you~.

  • YoshEE

Can’t wait til next month release. >.<

  • AuraGuyChris

They better add the top description:
Me (You): A player avid to Fire Emblem who is dead set in having no casualties. Behind everybody’s backs, he/she buys DLC after complaining fervently about it on the internet.

    • Ahahaha!

      • AuraGuyChris

There better be benefits to make a mod laugh. : )

        • lanmanna

          YOU GET NOTHING!111!!

        • Here, have a cookie. :P

    • I don’t complain about DLC and I will be buying it. But otherwise yes.

    • lanmanna

LOL. Ishaan just tweeted your post!

  • Godman

I’m so super-psyched for this game!
    Till the day comes…

  • TruSpindash

I really like the character designs this time around, was not a big fan of the art style they used for the DS games. When I pick up Anarchy Reigns next week I will make sure to per-order Awakening.

  • z_merquise
  • JustThisOne

Ahh crap. I’m going to be misreading his name as “Chrome” a lot. :I

  • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

The art is awesome, I always loved FE games; if I ever get a 3DS this is a game I’ll buy day one~.

    • Arrei

Well hey, it’s out soon, no time like the present to pick one up!

  • Tom_Phoenix

I’m probably among the minority, but I’m not a big fan of the character design in this game. I have nothing against wacky looks and hairstyles, but in this particular case, I don’t feel like they fit well with the setting.

Some of them are also anatomically disturbing….

    • MT1210

Your reasons are valid, basing from the previous artwork of the older games, this time around the art approach is quite unique so I can get what you’re saying. But it’s not like art was the major factor for people playing FE in the first place.

  • Hyli

I’ve always loved Lissa’s design. Just the fact that I have seen a hoop skirt on any other female character in the games I’ve played and the fact that it looks amazing with her overall design…all of my yes.
Also I’m not regretting my choice to marry Frederick, not at all…

  • isfuturebright

    Wow this is it :)
