Fire Emblem: Awakening Will Be Available At Retail And On eShop In U.S.

By Ishaan . January 4, 2013 . 3:30pm

Fire Emblem: Awakening will be released as both a retail game as well as a download title in North America. The game recently received a listing on the Nintendo eShop, that confirms that it will be made available to download.

The eShop page also has 3D screenshots on it, so if you own a Nintendo 3DS, you can go look them up. (Look out for the third screenshot in particular!) You’ll have to search for the game by name, since it isn’t featured on the front page of the eShop at the moment.

Fire Emblem: Awakening will be available in North America on February 4th. Europe will see the game in April. In case you choose to go the retail route, pre-ordering the game at GameStop will get you an art book.

A high-five to Siliconera reader, Lyndis, for the tip!

“In case you choose to go the digital route, pre-ordering the game at GameStop will get you an art book.”

    You mean physical?

  • I made a tactical preorder already.

    • Pockystix

      same o 3o

  • Pre-ordered it today to make sure I get that art-book. GOTY 2013 incoming.

  • Patrick Gover

Eh, I plan on getting a physical copy anyways. Plan on pre-ordering soon.

I tried turning on the 3D for the third screenshot and jesus it felt like a portal.

The 3D didn’t work for the other two screenshots though.

    • That third screen was so crazy. It’s like a hologram popping out of the screen! Odd that the other two didn’t work for you, though…

      • That 3rd screenshot killed my eyes. I couldn’t even look at it. Some pics on the eShop seem like the 3d is turned on max and then some.

        • I know! Wasn’t it beautiful? T^T

  • YoshEE

nice thing to download but since artbook is included I have to go with preorder the game

  • Vaporeon23

I paid off the game at Gamestop today. I can’t wait!

  • Pichi

I like this route. Physical giving pre-order. Just wish that digital is a bit cheaper.

  • fireemblembeast

I wonder if the gamestop preorder is the only package available…ofc we can’t have that smexy 3ds design. >:I
Lol that last picture on eshop is like my 3ds camera pictures gone wrong XD
Everyone is talking about how they are going to preorder it for the artbook. Since I already have the knights of iris collection I hope it’s something different, but since the “Limited Edition character art book will be available at time of purchase. While Supplies Last.” (from gamestop website) I don’t even care trollolol because I have a gamestop near my street that no one goes to and so I always get everything I want from there when it first comes out. XD no I’m jk since it’s FE I’m gonna preorder just to have the delight of having it arrive in the mail and plus I don’t want that guy working there touching on it like he did to code of princess…That and it comes out on a monday, so my parents would make me wait until the weekend to get it because of school!
As for the eshop release, that’s cool for impatient people, but I want that box; I’ve been reserving a spot on my shelf for it since when Reggie let the news slip at E3. Also for club nintendo…or does the eshop have it too? :/ Whatever.
The box is gonna be awesome, except for the part at the bottom they just had to throw in about how 3d mode is for ages 7+! I mean, come on, that’s something you put on the back! >: Reminds me of how Code of Princess came with a DSi manual. DSi…. >_>; wtf, NOA?
Rambling aside, I can’t wait-it’s only a month left now! (Hurry up with that official website, NOA!)

  • Suicunesol

GRAAHAHH the third screenshot hurts! First time that’s happened. The third screenshot is totally screwed up! They need to fix that! Screenshots one and two work though and are totally fine.

    • Man, you guys are crazy. That third screen totally rocked my eyeballs. I wish every game would pop out of the screen like BAM! :(

      • Suicunesol

You and I are seeing two different things then! None of the items in the third screenshot are on a separate plane! There was no stereoscopic 3D effect at all between the interface and the map (if there’s supposed to be one). I swear both images for the right and left eyes were the same, but were placed in different positions, resulting in something clearly bugged.

Are you using an XL or a normal 3DS?

        • Ah, yeah, that’s not what I saw either. In my experience, the entire image—ie; that whole screen, barring a little section on both sides—was popping “off” and hovering above the 3DS like a hologram.

          • Suicunesol

I see. Well, I hope the little sections on both sides (the black bars) are taken care of. I think it’s a faux screenshot because the bottom of the picture is cut off (at Iron Lance). It’s not the complete picture, and that’s what might be causing the problem for me. Were you using 3DS or XL?

          • Yeah, I noticed that the screen seemed misaligned, too. It actually made me wonder if the screenshot was messed up and the image isn’t actually supposed to pop off the screen like that. That would be kind of disappointing, haha. I really like the popping out effect.

            I’m using a regular 3DS.

  • Oltheros

Optional download with Japanese voices, come on Nintendo

    • Haseyo

Are the English VAs really that bad? I’ve never played a FE game but my friends insist that I get this one. I’m all for English voices but I know some games out there have terrible VA.

      • Enma_Kozato

Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn were the only FE games to have voicing acting before Awakening, but they were constricted to CG events. In my opinion, the voice acting was okay; not that impressive, but not intolerable either. Going by the few spoken lines in the Nintendo Direct videos of Awakening though, I’d say the voice acting quality has improved even though the game seems to be mostly comprised of grunts, sighs, and gasps.

        • デ オオカミ

There’s voice acting in the CG cutscenes and also very basic lines during dialogue scenes.

          • Enma_Kozato

            I know, I’ve been watching a Let’s Play for it :>

          • デ オオカミ

            For a moment I had no clue what you meant by that. >_>’;

      • David García Abril

Even if the English VA is good, that wouldn’t mean a thing.

For some people, the best English VA ever will always be inferior to the worst Japanese VA ever.

        • Haseyo

Yeah I figured that. Never understood it, especially when 90% of us don’t even know what they’re saying. I’d rather have decent English VA than “spectacular” JP VA.

  • Zero Shift

This will be the first Fire Emblem game I play. Can’t wait to see what all the fuss is about for this series.

  • Read February 4th and thought OH CRAP on my birthday, but it’s NA Dx…W-well April is good too T__T

  • Ladius

This game can’t be released soon enough! I’m currently marathoning the DS Fire Emblem games and, even if Heroes of Light and Shadow is a huge improvement over Shadow Dragon (sadly, even after giving SD a second chance I still think it’s the worst chapter in the franchise in the context of its release timeframe), I think Awakening will blow it away .

    • Funny, Shadow Dragon was the first FE title that I’ve played, and it made me love SRPGs. Also, there’s a fan translation going on for Heroes of Light and Shadow.

      • Brandonmkii

It’s already done. Give it a whirl!

      • Ladius

Maybe you liked Shadow Dragon exactly because it was your first Fire Emblem game: SD isn’t a bad tactical jrpg in itself, but it’s extremely lackluster compared to almost every other entry in the franchise.
Heroes of Light and Shadow (I’m playing it using the fantranslation released some weeks ago, btw) is a huge improvement simply because it’s in line with other entries in this great series, even if added some new twists to the traditional features.

Awakening, on the other hand, seems to be a complete revamp of this franchise, and is probably going to be absolutely awesome.

  • puchinri

Shame there doesn’t seem to be a skin tone option, but I am still very much so looking forward to making my character and marrying up Chrom. I mean, I will be enjoying every bit of the game quite thoroughly, but I cannot pass that up. Nope.

    • デ オオカミ

Nope, just your average Japanese skintone. x)

      • puchinri

        I don’t think there’s an average skintone for any ethnic/cultural/etc group. ^u^;

But I understand the generic, light-skinned tone. (As the default.)

        • デ オオカミ

I meant it jokingly, my bad.

But the character models show darker in the game itself, the picture seems somewhat lighter here (drawings of characters are fair-skinned though).

…sorry for this obviously pointless comment. >_>

          • puchinri

Haha, that’s okay~. I figured you did somewhat. (Which the second half of my comment was kind of meant to be a joke back.)

That’s interesting if so. And that’s fine~. There is very rarely such a thing as a pointless comment. ^u^

    • Enma_Kozato

I already know who I want my feMU to hook up with but, due to headcanon reasons, it’ll take 2 playthroughs to get there. Ah, the beautiful destiny and tragedy of bearing the mark of Gimle/Grimle.

      • puchinri

        Wow, two playthroughs? oAo
I am sorry. That’s interesting. Why does it take so long?

        • Enma_Kozato

I can’t really explain without going into spoilerific territory (>u<;;)

          • puchinri

            Ahhh~. Understandable. That’s scary though. ouo;

  • Enma_Kozato

I really like the 3D on the second screenshot, but I don’t think I’ll actually play the game with the 3D on.

  • Can’t wait to see it in Europe! Can’t wait to see it in Europe! Can’t wait to see it in Europe! Can’t wait to see it in Europe! YEAH!

  • Miralizmis

I’m still debating if I want to make my first character a girl or a boy… >_>

    • Ethan_Twain

That’s an option?? Well then, does it make any difference in the game mechanics? Or is it just a cosmetic thing.

      • Miralizmis

The only thing it effects is who you can marry. I just don’t know if I want to be a hot lady, or be a dude and get married to a hot lady…

EDIT: These two guys above me explained it better.
        I completely forgot about that stuff… :T

        • Ethan_Twain

Marry? This is not the Fire Emblem I came to know in The Sacred Stones. No sir, back in MY day it was all battle and killing and walking up to the boss uphill both ways.

Seriously though, that’s pretty out there. Don’t tell me how it works though, I think I would like to discover that for myself.

          • You could marry in FE games way before Sacred Stone, guess they decided to bring it back.

      • You guys don’t know? Male and female have different stats and different classes.

      • Enma_Kozato

Plot-wise, one specific event can have 3 different takes depending on the player’s gender AND if they have a S support with a certain character. I was pleasantly surprised at that effort.

  • Blazkn

Am I the only one who didn’t note anything special in the third screenshot? I think the second one was much more impressive… Ronku (forgot his localized name) was really popping out of the screen
