DARKSIDERS2

Bankrupt publisher, THQ, who were behind games like the Darksiders and Saints Row series, are going to be auctioning off the rights to these properties later this month.

According to a report at Polygon, on January 22nd, THQ will auction off its properties title by title, with Warner Bros. and Electronic Arts interested as potential buyers.

Previously, Ubisoft, too, have expressed interest in picking up THQ’s IP.

I really hope Darksiders goes to Ubisoft at least.

    • http://twitter.com/mistermeemee Mr. Mistermeemee

I’m hoping Ubisoft or Warner Bros.

That’s rather devastating to hear. its going to suck if a title like Saints Row or Darksiders heads to EA I do hope Warner gets it or someone more reliable.

    • Tatsuya1221

Agreed. especially if your a pc gamer and you don’t want to install spyware like origin.

    • Akimitsu

I can picture Darksiders being in good hands with Warner Bros. I don’t know who I’d want Saints Row to go to, though I definitely don’t want EA getting much of anything.

      • donramon1

What are you talking about?? Do you want DS3 to be crippled with triple fudge DRM, limited activations *and* support for new keys cut short after 180 days??

IMO EA may try to get its hands on either WWE or Saints Row, those are what makes sense to them, they got Dante’s Inferno for hack n slash or action adventure title

  • SirRichard

It’s sad that they had to end this way, THQ backed quite a few nice games over the years where other publishers wouldn’t have bothered. It’s sad to see them reduced to selling off all their franchises.

As long as EA gets none of the multiplayer titles everything should turn out well. (Despite the fact that THQ is going under)

  • SolidusSnake

What horrible news, I was really looking forward to Metro: Last Light. I guess there’s always hope that someone good will get STALKER and the 40k rights, though it’s equally likely that they get turned into garbage or just disappear.

    • FetusZero

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. doesn’t belong to THQ, so it won’t happen. THQ only had the publishing rights to the first game and that’s as far as it went. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is already dead anyway, I think it’s been clearly shown the that license owner has no intention on letting anyone make a sequel.

I just want to cry…I don’t trust Darksiders with EA personally. With Warners or Ubisoft I would rather it stay.

  • Farid Belkacemi

Sad day for Darksiders fans… I hope Ubisoft or Warner will be on this case !

  • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

I have nothing against EA, but I’d feel far more comfortable with either Warner or Ubisoft taking control of Darksiders.

    • Kris

      Ditto.

That said, In my perfect world, Darksiders would be picked up by Capcom or another company with a lot of action game design experience. What Vigil did with DSII was impressive, but I think a company like Capcom could help polish it just a bit more.

    • http://twitter.com/SameerMonier Sameer Monier

well EA should work on Dante’s Purgatory instead of taking Darksiders.

  • TrevHead

    RIP Relic & homeworld

  • Kurow Akutenshi

I hope Ubisoft gets the Warhammer license

  • FetusZero

As a F.E.A.R. fan, I hope Darksiders’ fans know what they are getting into by hoping that Warner gets the franchise.. Next thing you’ll know the next Darksiders will be an entirely new game on which they slapped a known title.

    • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

Well, Joe Madureira has stopped working on the series anyway, so now is as good a time as any if someone wants to experiment with Darksiders a little. As “good” as the games look overall, I also feel like Darksiders can come off as a little bland, just because of the art style.

      • TheInternetNomad

I find the art style to actually benefit the game, looks like a comic book come to life. the biggest issue I have with Darksiders is the game mechanics, nothing really unique or anything that stands out. Just a lot of borrowed ideas from other successful franchises done right. (Zelda, God of War some of the obvious ones).

I really hope someone good buys right rights to saints row, It would suck major ass if it got picked up and ruined…

  • http://epiclyamazing.wordpress.com/ AzureNova

I wish I had enough money to participate in these auctions to save them from certain companies lol

  • donramon1

As surprising as it is, UBI is our best bet for THQ’s games, UBI makes good games, they just have a really s****y business model.

  • Dragon24680

THQ may have survived if it stayed together, now it will surely die. Sad news indeed.

  • Happy Gamer

I’m hoping DS gets a nice home.

  • Happy Gamer

I hope SONY buys Darksiders, then give it to naughty dog lol

  • anthony apduhan

I pray Warner Bros. or Ubisoft or maybe even Bethesda will handle Saint’s Row and Darksiders.

  • DarkWaterClone

I hope Ronimo buys back De Blob. I also wonder who will buy Red Faction, Broken Sword & Homeworld. Those IPs I want to see more of.

I want to know will THQ still finish Company of Heroes or sell that game too?

    • Elvick

As long as de Blob goes to someone who will support it well, I’ll be happy. The IP is awesome imo and I’d like more of it.
