Croixleur, Nyu Media’s next doujin title, will be released on January 24th. Today, Nyu Media announced a price for the game—$4.99.

As previously reported, Croixleur is an action game set in a tower where you progress from floor-to-floor by defeating enemies. It allows for advanced techniques like move cancelling, invincibility frames and more, and you can read about it here.

Croixleur will be released for PC via Desura, Gamersgate and other avenues. The game also has a page on the Steam Greenlight program for upvoting.

Love how the Otaku make doujin games that are in some ways more creative than many commercial ones.

    • CirnoTheStrongest

The Touhou fanbase is a key representative of this.

      • onyhow

Really? Because a lot of Touhou fangames I saw have gameplay cribbed from other games, many times it’s rather blatant…

  • Micrll

Simple concept but it is priced appropriately. I suspect that I won’t be that great at it due to the fact that it uses more fighting game mechanics but at that price I will give it a shot. got my vote on Greenlight, always ready for more Doujin / JPN Import games to be localized. Also great news “** Once Croixleur passes Greenlight, we will provide Steam codes to anyone who purchase Croixleur through any other distributor! “

  • Seizui

Huh, it’s priced appropriately and looks interesting. …Though, I do get why almost every doujin game has nothing but female characters…. still kinda like ‘guh’.

    • puchinri

I was thinking over that aspect the other day. I like it, because it’s rare to have only or mostly female leads in mainstream/larger titles, and they’re usually some sort of fanservice for some target audience (whether of the sexual, romantic, etc sort). It’s refreshing what most (or some, at least) doujin games do, but it is also a bit sad that there’s a lack of male characters in doujin games.

      • Seizui

That is true. Mind, while I don’t mind there being a female lead, when the entire set of characters in the game are female, it is usually ‘bleh’-worthy.

The male character doesn’t need to be a lead(see
Recettear), just usually like seeing both in a game.

        • puchinri

Yeah. While it isn’t ‘bleh’-worthy to me, I do like to see more diversity in the casts.

        • Morricane

I feel like that about anime ever since K-On made it’s splash…I feel with only girls in a cast a very big part of the dynamics of character interaction is…gone. It’s just missing something. (that being said, I can’t stand watching these things…)

          • Amine Hsu Nekuchan

I’m kinda curious, what exactly does a male character add that a masculine female character doesn’t?

          • Morricane

The same he would add in a real-life context pertaining social dynamics. At best, some kind of romantic tension (even as a subplot).
At least all these K-On-clones with their capitalization on the “moe”-ness of their characters, so to speak, bore me to death. They don’t have anything making them worth to watch, no (good) comedy, no plot, just nothing except cute girls doing…well…cute things. But of course the comedy part in this is partially the fault of my subjective taste.

  • puchinri

Well, that’s a nice surprise! I was going to pick it up anyway, but maybe I can sooner than later now.

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

Looks fun. Seems it might get repetitive though.

  • CirnoLakes

Cheap! Now I just need to get it on Steam and…

OH GOD. Can I just… go and hold Gabe Newell ransom now?

    • Remember what I said about VNs and Steam Greenlight? I was right that it is flawed and needs changes now… I also expect some heavy bashing on Croixleur’s Greenlight page sooner or later…

      • CirnoLakes

I wish that Greenlight wasn’t populated by so many closed minded idiots that hate all things Japanese.

It is taking long enough for La-Mulana to get on Steam. Much less will we get this game anytime soon.

  • PersonaSpace

You figur Nyu Media would be at the point where they can bypass the whole bullshit greenlight process. It just results in me having to wait longer for a game I want from them.

  • That is a really good price. I hope it is a good game.
