Pikmin 3, The Wonderful 101, And Game & Wario Slip To The First Half Of 2013

By Spencer . January 17, 2013 . 12:25pm

Along with release dates for Luigi’s Manion: Dark Moon and Rayman Legends, Nintendo also mentioned three Wii U games have been pushed back from a planned March release.

The Wonderful 101 from PlatinumGames, Wii Fit U, and Game & Wario were labeled as "launch window" games, which meant they would be released by the end of March. Nintendo announced today all three of these games will arrive in the first half of the year. Pikmin 3 was originally a launch window title too, but Nintendo pushed it back to spring 2013 earlier. It’s now a first half of the year game so expect it to come out after March, but before July.

Lego City Undercover, an open world game with Lego characters from Travelers’ Tales, is the only first party Wii U game for the rest of the Wii U’s launch window. Good thing Capcom is filling the void with Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, which comes out in North America on March 19.

uuugggghhhh. I wonder what’s going on with pikmin 3? Were they just overachieving, expecting to be able to finish sooner, are they adding a bunch of extra stuff, or is there something wrong?

Nintendo now has to develop for 3DS as well as an HD console. It takes alot of resources. I just don’t expect as many 1st party titles each year due to this.

      • Elvick

I think they’ll just make more downloadable titles to pad it out personally.

Hands up, who was surprised by this news/delay. Yeah, knew noone would be surprised XD

Oh lordy, that bulborb creeps me out.

Every time I get upset about a first-party Nintendo game getting delayed… I remember that first-party Nintendo games always get delayed over and over again, so I get excited instead, because I know the game will be that much better.

    • what Virginia replied I am taken by surprise that some people can make $4960 in 1 month on the network.

I guess. Though I remeber reading that they delayed Pikmin 3 so that there would be a good game to be released on early 2013. Meaning it’s already done, they’re just holding it back to increase the wii u’s momentum.

  • Hmm, I originally thought that Pikmin 3 wasn’t a launch title as to not overshadow third party titles at launch and give them a chance. But I guess they really just needed more time for development.

I’ll wait patiently, but I do wish there was a little more space between Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101 seeing as how they seem to have some similar elements.

And frankly, Wonderful 101 totally overshadowed Pikmin 3 for me as soon as I saw the first E3 2012 footage (I still think Nintendo avoided showing W101 on their stage show because it would have stolen some thunder from Miyamoto’s baby). Platinum basically sold me the system that day, between the W101 and Bayonetta 2 announcements.

Putting my hopes on the Wonderful 101. Haven’t ever played a Pikmin game so even if it may be good, there’s no connection between me and that franchise. But I have liked pretty much everything by Platinum that I’ve bought so far, so I’m hoping they won’t let me down.
