Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Trailer Highlights The Game’s Bosses

Konami have released a new trailer for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance that highlights four of the bosses in the game—Mistral, Monsoon, Sundowner and Samuel:

 

 

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will be released on February 19th in North America for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

      yep there is, but its not button mapped to a single button, so its not spammable (its L analog + [] to parry)

          A small indication appears at the left side of the screen in the damn demo THE WHOLE DAMN TIME that says “analog + [] to parry” ……….its people blind? do they need huge neon lights that occupy the entire screen and say “PUSH THIS BUTTON YOU DAMN STUPID MOTHERFUCKER”? should kotaku make an article several years later about which buttons you have to press? i dont know man, i dont know anymore.

            I tried doing that, but it never seemed to work.

            I just want a clear tutorial for it in the game

            Because you have to push them at the right moment, timing cannot be taught through a tutorial, you just need better reflexes…………………or you can play dmc, you had two evade buttons there if im not mistaken.
            You know what? better dont buy this game because it is going to be a nightmare for you.

            What? Have you seen that video? The fight against moonson is going to be hell incarnate if you dont have good reflexes……………….or you say it because of dmc?……..you are right man, he doesn’t need to use the two evade buttons, the enemies take so much time to attack that you can simply walk away from them and return when they have finished the attack animation.

      There isnt a dedicated block button, but you can parry most attacks. I think they meant that you just cant block everything with a easy button, you have to actually actively put more effort and timing in a block

      Ha ha oh god that would be so hilarious if, say, Johnny Sasaki comes in at the final climactic boss fight and just throws a chaff grenade, picks up Raidens sword and stabs the final boss in his weak spot with it. Bam, game over.

      Speaking seriously tho I presume that future technology has found ways to work around the chaff. Of course, there should still be SOME kind of anti-technology device out there… but if they introduced that they probably wouldn’t be able to throw in cool cyborgs for the heck of it and that just won’t do.

    This probably has been said a million times already but, these boss designs are really interesting and diverse.

    Also, Platinum needs more money, I know graphics aren’t everything, but lately their games have looked pretty ugly. First Anarchy Reigns and now this, I hope they try their best to make Bayonetta 2 beautiful.

      I don’t think it looks ugly really. It just suffers a lot from lack of color syndrome.

          Yeah I noticed some ugly textures too but they do a pretty good job of making it look good. It is a fast paced action game afterall.

      The textures are fine, people don’t realise how much space textures take up in memory.
      In order to keep the solid framerate you’ll have to make some sacrifices, especially considering the ancient hardware they have to work with.

      Also it’s not about budget obviously, textures aren’t made in the resolution you see them in the game obviously, no sane artist would limit himself to a 1kx1k or 512×512 texture space when working.
      Textures are generally 4kx4k when working, and then downscaled to the level they need in order to get their target performance; consoles can’t even load 4kx4k textures.

      In fast paced games like this it’s all about maximising performance and lowering loading times.

        I agree 50% with what you said. And that is only because I’ve seen faster paced games with better textures. The only thing they have in common is they aren’t japanese.

        Still, don’t think I’m trolling here or anything. The game looks too good in motion, just like Bayonetta did, but in the cutscenes or in slowmo there are just some jaggies here and there that I wish they had taken more time to polish. That’s all.

          What faster paced games? All NG’s have been subject to severe slowdowns that are especially noticable in NG2-3, DMC4 runs on MT Framework 1.x which means that the areas it loads in each time are smaller than anything in bayonetta (and thus rising as well by proxy] by default and GodOW3 has its share of low res textures and 30fps slowdowns as well.

          …And there ends the list of 60fps action games.
          Jaggies are the product of consoles being ancient ass hardware and getting 60fps + anti-aliasing is taxing.
          So yeah 720p and no AA will result in jaggies obviously; not a sign of not polishing, moreso a sign of squeezing the most out of the hardware.

            That’s why I said that the one thing they all had in common is they weren’t japanese. All the examples you quoted (except GoW3, which actually looks a lot better but it’s sometimes thanks to the camera angle) were, so of course they all seemed slower paced, smaller or ugly.

            All I just said is that western action games (even hack and slash ones, which is mainly a japanese dominated genre) usually look better and more fluid and I think that’s because they have more budget to work with.

            No, all the examples I quoted are 60fps console action games, there aren’t any others; everything else that might run at 60fps also runs at a reduced resolution and has its share of slowdowns.

            All the “western” ones you think look better all run at 30fps or less, which is a trade-off:
            Slower and better looking.
            Faster and better looking with severe slowdowns (GoW3′s mean is ~40fps btw)
            Faster and better looking with smaller areas
            Faster and good looking with big areas and minor slowdowns.

            Every game is subject to these restrictions, “polish” isn’t some magic process that make textures take up less memory, and saying bayonetta should be even better looking would change the game into something completely different; smaller areas, more loading and slower/smaller combat.
            Heck the entire end sequence with Jeanne would have to be changed to keep the memory constraints down.

            Saying it isn’t polished is honestly just a selfish insult to platinum games.

            Read the comment on top: “I hope they try their best to make Bayonetta 2 beautiful”. Or take your time to go through all the comments, never once did I say Bayonetta wasn’t a beautiful game or that it ran poorly.

            But if you just look at it (and it has aged well) and then look at this or AR. Bayo looks better to me. If it’s becoming a trend or something, then I really hope they go back to what they were doing in the beggining, or that they get more money to make a better looking game.

            Exactly, saying you hope they “try their best” implies they haven’t while AR/VQ/MGR all at the best of what they can be, which is what I’ve, fruitlessly, have been trying to explain in my previous replies.

            Also saying “western action games look better and are more fluid” is completely wrong and is again what I tried to explain.
            Just because Game A looks like such doesn’t mean Game B must look like that as well; while budget is ofcourse a big part of what you can produce there comes a point where what it dictates visual could look like is no longer an issue, this is what is called a AAA studio, like platinum games.

            instead you get a bunch of other variables that will dictate what your game looks like and these are completely dependant on what the hardware can offer you:
            Do you want to fight 8 enemies at a time or 4?
            Do you want large sprawling areas or small confined ones
            do you want 50-60 fps or 30?
            Do you want AA or not
            Do you want 1080p or 600p?
            Do you want etc….

            So making comparisons between studios, ideals and engines that are even remotely similar to each other and then come to the conclusion that P* is “slacking off” is just horribly insulting and ignorant.

            Not slacking off, just not having enough resources to pull it off. Ok, I get your point, you basically are saying they are trying their best and that there is little to no possibility to make a better looking AR or MGSR without sacrificing anything (or for current generation consoles for that matter).

            I think otherwise because I’ve seen it. I may be wrong because I haven’t googled each game’s fps, but I still think they look great, so if I’ve been fooled then it’s totally ok to me. Didn’t want to insult PG or look ignorant or whatever. Leave it at that? Great.

            Yes you have been fooled ;P, fps’s especially use many tricks to seem better looking than they are, mainly because most of them send you down a very linear path, run at lower resolutions and sub 30 fps.

            But ok if you didn’t mean to come off insulting that’s fine.

            I meant I hadn’t looked up the frames per second (fps), I didn’t mean first person shooters, lol :p And I know about the tricks because I’m mainly a PC gamer and it doesn’t freak me out anymore whenever an absolutely beautiful game runs better than an open world one. XD

      Kinda agree with you, there’s a serious lack of color here that’s not on the characters themselves. Still think Bayonetta is the most interesting-LOOKING game Platinum’s ever done, I like Vanquish and all but that game, AR and this have some serious brown-tone problems brewing.

    …and they did this amazing trailer without using “wubwubwub” music. As if I needed any more reasons to love Platinum Games and this game in particular :D

    I find it kinda funny that this is a Japanese dub of footage from the English build of the game. That aside, looks sweet. Day 1 purchasing if I have the money.

      Yeah,I suppose it’s like other Platinum’s games like Vanquish or Anarchy Reigns. They both have a Jpn dub, but the default lip movement is based on English. Unlike MGS4 or FF13, the Jpn & Eng ver each has different lip sync matching the respective language..

      What a great seiyuu cast for the bosses, Park Romi, Ebara Masashi, Hirata Hiroaki, etc, and Horiuchi Kenyuu’s Raiden sounds bad ass.. was thinking of skipping this trailer not to be spoiled… The US ver won’t have Jpn dub judging from the demo, I wonder if the Jpn ver is Jpn only or dual track (Jpn demo only had Jpn audio too).. I want to import the limited edition w/ the artbook, steelbook case, and the figures of Mistral’s hands.. alrdy pre-ordered the regular US ver… not sure if the lamp is worth a $100..

    Have to admit that Sundowner and Samuel feels a little dissapointing. Sundowner’s special power seems to be his shields and using two big blocky swords, and Samuel doesn’t even have that. I get that sometimes you can make an awesome boss out of a character that doesn’t have a particular gimmick but that’s more like a duel boss to test your skills against (like Vergil in DMC3), but I dunno… I just don’t think there’s anything cool about Samuel. At least Mistral has armtacles and Monsoon has his Buggy the Clown-thing going on…

    Bosses look dumb, But I’m not playing this to look at them, I’m playing it to cut them into tiny pieces, so bring on the victims.

    Also, Now I know what Doc Ock and Rachael From Resident Evil Revelations kid would look like. And Sam looks like Ezio’s Raiden Cyborg Suit.
