By Ishaan . January 21, 2013 . 9:45am

Project X Zone, the Namco x Sega x Capcom RPG that was released in Japan last year, is headed to North America, Latin America, Europe and Australia in summer 2013. To go along with the announcement, Namco Bandai released a few Japanese screenshots of the game, which you can check out below, along with a summary of the game’s story:

Project X Zone takes place in a world surrounded by a hidden chaos with shadows and evil lurking beneath the peaceful cover of everyday life. When a rift in time and space suddenly appears, a doorway to various universes is opened allowing both heroes and villains from different worlds to cross paths. Players will be able to take control of a huge selection of paired heroes including favorites such as Jin and Xiaoyu (Tekken), Toma and Cyrille (Shining Force EXA), to X and Zero (Mega Man X) and discover the cause of the rift and stop evil from coming through and spreading into their world.

    It’s a very pretty game!

Sorry, there’s seriously nothing else I can take away from this. No deeper insight. I don’t recognize a lot of the characters, the text is in Japanese, and the action shots are totally bonkers. I have no idea who’s attacking who with what there are so many effects going off.

    Very pretty though.

  • Raltrios

Damn, Alisa looks fine in that screen. But the fellow next to her has fine taste in attire, too. Matches my Saturday gaming gear :P

    • M’iau M’iaut

Complete with the six pack and guns?

      • Raltrios

        Naturally :P

  • $39420547

great news i was worried about this

  • Eric Harris

This was one game I just accepted that it wasn’t coming. Now that it is, I can actually think about it again. All those characters, those special attacks, pretty colors. mind, not working. losing, consci. .

    • NTaiyokun

Hey bro, wake up man! Come on! NOWS NOT THE TIME TO GO DOWN! WE’RE SO CLOSE

  • TruSpindash

I enjoyed SRW Endless Frontier and was disappointed that the sequel never made its way over here. However this game more then makes up for that considering how similar it looks to the endless frontier series.

    • Kibbitz

      Plays pretty similarly too.

    • Brion Valkerion

its kinda like that but boring. this game and the first has some serious pacing issues with the story lol. gameplay is cool enough though i guess.

  • MrTyrant

    >Latin America

    WHAT!? really?

  • Go2hell66

omg Namco, the publisher of the year? bringing tales of the abyss, tales of xillia, one piece now this, didn’t see this coming at all, i’m completely amazed!

wow when the hell did they decide to stop being douchbags and actually bring over some decent games?

namco i’m so fucking proud of you!

now if only capcom and SE could follow suit!

    • MrTyrant

You are forgetting Ni no kuni and Toki no towa. Namco Bandai also have those.

      • Go2hell66

Is toki no towa confirmed though?, either way they’ve pretty much blown all the other publishers out of the water right now, i think its safe to say they’re my favourite this year :D

        • You should be loving atlus with every fiber of your soul. They gave us Soul Hackers, they gave us an ANIME for devil survivor .THEY GAVE US A CODE. NOW LET THEM GIVE US MEGATEN!

          • Go2hell66

wrong atlus refuse to release their stuff in europe, no soul hackers here, no persona 4 arena, i love atlus but their defifinitely not my favourites, especially with the way they handle their EU releases

          • Zeik56

Atlus doesn’t “refuse” to release them in Europe, they can’t release them in Europe. They don’t have a European publishing branch. It’s up to EU publishers (ex. Ghostlight) to pick up their games and release them in their territory.

          • Go2hell66

hence why they’re not my favourite, when they do get an EU publishing branch i might reconsider

          • SirRichard

“they can’t release them in Europe. They don’t have a European publishing branch”

XSEED and NISA don’t have European branches either, and that doesn’t stop them from doing it anyway. NISA even get it out at the same time as the American release.

Those excuses don’t work any more. There’s plenty of willing partners for Atlus and a decent audience, there’s all manner of ways and means to publish their stuff here. They just refuse to do any of it. And if they’re not refusing to do it, why aren’t they publishing here?

          • Zeik56

            Edit: Nevermind.

          • SirRichard

They don’t, it went under years ago when NIS in general was struggling. What they have is a distributor partnership with Tecmo Koei Europe, who distribute the game out to retailers for them. Atlus could do this, lord knows Tecmo Koei would be interested in that, but they don’t.

          • Ladius

That isn’t necessarily true, NISA is an American company and yet it was able to publish its games in Europe through its partnership with Koei.

Also, Atlus USA has published the first Persona on the European PSN Store, and then never bothered to bring us directly any more PSP games, despite having lots of titles (like Gungnir and Growlanser WoT) rated by PEGI. Seeing Code of Princess released in Europe by Agatsuma (a Japanese company with no presence in the west) instead of Atlus USA is bizarre, too.

And I don’t think I need to remind you the whole region lock debacle with Persona 4 Arena, as much as it was an Atlus JapanIndex decision instead of an Atlus USA one.

      • Now if they could just remake Tales of Rebirth and not stick it on the PS vita alll would be well :3

      • Crevox

        And Dark Souls PC!

        • MrTyrant

Publisher of the year means 2013.

          • Crevox

Funny cause he said Tales of the Abyss ;p

      • TatsuyaKyo

Don’t be forgetting God Eater 2 now (once it gets released anyway).

  • Clifford Michael

Wow. I’m incredibly shocked this game is coming overseas.

  • KingGunblader

Colour me surprised. Like… REALLY surprised.

  • Sergio Briceño

I was kind of hoping for screens in english, but since it’s confirmed anyway… Hope for a demo soon.

  • Tales_of_Master

Namco…….If you announced JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure All-Star Battle to the U.S….. I’m gonna sacrifice my first born child in order for you to prosper. I can guarantee that the ritual works 100% of the time.

  • puchinri

Heh, it just dawned on me. We get Megaman loving in this~. Yay!

Also, so much more excited now. This is just really fantastic. ♥

  • Junko Enoshima

My poor wallet! First Soul Hackers, then Pandora’s Tower, now THIS? I’ll be broke by the end of the year!

Also, KOS-MOS is in this game, so that’ll make me want the game even more :)

    • Lets not forget the Fire Emblem 3DS bundle and the vast amount of people buying that monochrome 3DS XL for the ensuing tempest of games that will be hitting the 3DS

  • It feels unreasonably good to see that Dante still kickin’ around

  • SirRichard

Looks like Namco are seriously trying to break into JRPGs, what with renewed effort for Tales, grabbing Ni No Kuni and giving it a gorgeous LE and now this. And frankly that’s great; they’ve got more weight behind them than the smaller publishers, it’s nice to see them using it!

    • Ladius

It’s incredible to see how much Namco has improved in the last two years, it went from completely ignoring the Tales and jrpg fanbase to be the most jrpg-focused among big Japanese publisher, beating even Square Enix in terms of unexpected localizations and reaching out to games made by other companies just to widen its portfolio. I hope fans are ready to support them, since they’ve done a lot for our niche so far.

  • scratchbach

A year or two ago, I was constantly complaining to my friends that not enough good games were getting localized. I’m pleased to say that is totally not the case anymore. Namco in particular has been making me happy- Project X Zone AND Pirate Warriors 2 in one day? That is awesome.

    • Elvick

There still aren’t enough imo, but it’s nice to have an upswing.

  • Sonicdarks

Too much awesome character for me to handle…

  • John Pena

First Pandora’s Tower, then This game, hopefully there is still a good chance for Tales Of Innocence R and Hearts R to be localized!!!

    • Ladius

I doubt Innocence R has a chance at this point, but Hearts R could be in a slightly different situation due to its bigger production values and its special place in Baba’s heart, not to mention the original was the most praised among the DS Tales. It’s still very unlikely though, and personally I’m already happy to see the home console mothership finally localized in a timely fashion.

  • IshimaruKaito

words cannot explain how i feel right now *fan girl cries*

  • TheExile285

well, I’ll be buying a 3DS over the summer. BTW…. MEGAMAN!

  • GaiunxWolfenX

i can’t believe this namdai is awesome!!!!!!!!, capcom and sega try to be good namdai rulz… nooooo my walleeeeeeeeeeet it’s gonna die of starvation! noooo, now if only they say something crazy along the lines of we’re going to keep supporting soulcalibur 5 and giving you a full mission mode to entetein you for 5$ or less they would get the developer of the year (a man can dream T.T)

  • anthony apduhan

I pray that Project X Zone needs more support! confirming this game in the west is not enough we need to believe have more support than ever than japan does so that this game will be released and into our hands a reality…

    • Kibbitz

Can’t do anything with Japan at this point. If anything, only you guys might get anything done with this if all of you manage to buy out PXZ’s US and EU shipments.

  • Tonton Ramos

Capcom should take notes on the screenshots and gameplay of Project X Zone on Megaman X for inspiration and research for his moveset in future MVC games so that they won’t make the same mistake again.

  • Barrylocke89

Is everyone ready to start crying on their 3ds’s when they get teased with Valkyria Chronicles 3 characters that they’ve been unable to meet because it never came out to the west? :P…T_T

That aside though, it’s awesome that this game is being localized. I honestly thought it was such a longshot that I didn’t even bother getting myself hyped for it when I learned about the premise. Now that I know, I’m pretty interested.

  • Mantiskilla

Nooooo! It’s Namco x Capcom coming back to haunt gamers and steal your money! It probably wouldn’t take much for this game to be better than the garbage that game was on PS2. Here’s to hoping the game ends up being at least mediocre
    remotely playable

    • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

???? The battle system is already interesting or hell plays greatly as they improve much from the OG on DS.
For story………. it is a crossover series lol. What can you expect?

    • Kibbitz

Well, if other people feel as crap about this as you do, well, they’d have to troll Bannam and suddenly not buy or cancel their preorders en masse to kill off this, I think. As for the game being mediocre, interesting or remotely playable, I forgot what your complaints about NxC was, so I can’t comment on those again. However, while PXZ’s combat system is still the juggling system from NxC, with just a few more bells and whistles. If you don’t like that at all, there’s no fixing this for you and you should honestly stay away.

  • Covnam

I also thought this would never come here. So happy to see this news earlier today. Can’t wait.
