    Well, that’s a surprise

    • Alex

      Thats for sure.
      But DAY ONE!

      • XYZ_JolteonZ980

        Day 1 Indeed

        • M’iau M’iaut

Quick lesson from the mod — this is indeed a title that it is OK to be.

          DAY ONE BABEE!

  • XYZ_JolteonZ980

Dont even know most of the cast but as an RPG fan, I will probably get for sure.

  • AnimeRemix

I’ll probably wait on a demo to release before actually buying this…

  • ivanchu77

    HOLY SHIT!!!

  • Triplicity

And to think I joked on this very site on an article months ago that this was Project X Unlocalizable!
I’ll eat my words! And my hat! And my pants!

    • Luis Camargo

Also, hyped for the release. Next localization effort: Bravely Default.

      • Ethan_Twain

We’ve actually been doing pretty okay with 3DS projects getting localized lately haven’t we? I think the only two big outstanding question marks (of games that have been released) are LaytonXAce Attorney and Bravely Default. Am I missing anything big?

        • ronin4life

“big”…. well, Rune Factory 4 hasn’t been confirmed, though that may not be considered “big”…
I would like to try Cudlecept and Slime battle, but I wouldn’t consider them to be big titles…
…Senran Kagura? Oh, and Dynasty Warriors/Samurai warriors(the former shot down entirely, the latter confusingly unconfirmed yet)

Remembered Layton x ace attorney and Fantasy life.

          • Ethan_Twain

I think it would be fair to call Senran Kagura simply not fit for America. Gender politics are too different, and too conservative, on this side of the pond for that game to be at all okay. The Dyntasty/Samurai warriors games totally count though – I’m surprised they haven’t been localized already. I wonder if maybe past handheld versions (PSP had a few, right?) didn’t do so hot? Samurai Warriors was a real early 3DS release wasn’t it? Is it maybe time to start thinking that maybe it’ll never make it over?

          • ronin4life

I though SWC did pretty well for itself here, which is why I’m surprised localization hasn’t been announced.

As for Senran Kagura, Xseed and the games creator have expressed optimism in a western releases chances, most likely as a download only release. The game designer actually said… something… that really hinted that the series would release over seas. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have expected it ever as well.

            Something… I won’t repeat… *_*;
            lol. ^.^;

          • Reki Honoo

The creator for the 3ds version said he wanted to release it on the north american e shop already, but he was unsure, so he’s gonna wait until there are more titles on it.

And if people are worried that it’s not right for america, just put it rated M, and put on it not for children/

        • Interface23

          All the Dragon Quests

          • lordroto

            They are coming, patience

          • Interface23

I have patience, I was just answering his question

        • Totally missing out on Little Battlers. I don’t think it’s gonna be big until the dubbed anime hits the children tho.

      • Triplicity

        get on, level, etc.

    • ShawnOtakuSomething

      Hyped to the 10th power

  • SetzerGabbiani

Pre- f*cking – ordered!!! As soon as it’s available!!! They are taking a chance with this, and I appreciate that. It needs a decent marketing campaign, but it could do well for sure.

  • Raltrios

OH HELL YES!!! Just one problem…

Who am I going to use first… o_O?

    • Kibbitz

You don’t get a choice in the matter.

  • * whistles* Surprise of the year.

  • zferolie

Wow, this was unexpected. I honestly didn’t think this game would ever leave japan. It’s awesome that it is. Good job Namco!

  • Lashawn Williams

oh my i think i just die for a bit…….i’m not getting punked am i
    …..its not April

  • E15
  • Awesome, awesome, awesome! I cannot express how much this excites me. Man, I’m going to come across fairly stupid here, but there is really nothing I can bring myself to say to express my excitement.

  • kylehyde

Is more than official I need a second job, my poor wallet, but is going to worth it. Best news of the week

  • SirRichard

Seriously didn’t expect this, even with the likes of Harada saying that he was pushing for it. That’s amazing, I can only hope the sales live up to their expectations.

  • wfgodbold

Bah. Now i have to buy a 3DS.

  • Leon_Tekashi

Nice! And now the waiting begins!

  • This game also features Sanger Zonvolt, the badass pilot of Dygenguard. It’s even wielding a replica of the Colossal Sword! He appears in 2nd Super Robot Wars OG, a game whose localization we’re fighting for. Please support Operation Hotblood

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

    Day One bro.^_^

  • NTaiyokun

  • SprintsMcGee

I’m so happy about this! I wonder how they’re going to do the dialogue. Rehire all the original English VAs (and get some others for the games that we never saw here) or just keep the original VAs and just put everything into English. Either way, I’m getting this day 1! =D

  • Manny Being Manny

Crunchy mentioned that One Piece Pirate Warriors 2 was announced for a Western release in the same press conference as well.

  • Gabi López Ramírez

Yesssssssssssss!!!!!!! :) I knew today was going to be good, but not this great.

  • Zonic505

So hyped for this! Now, let’s see if we can get really lucky & get that artbook and OST that came with the first print editions in Japan.

  • Go2hell66
  • ronin4life

    I always had a feeling…
    Still shocked. @[email protected]

  • LegoBaka

Crud. I didn’t want to support the 3DS because it’s region locked, but they’re making it hard on me…

    • ronin4life

If the games keep coming, the region lock won’t matter…
Kind of like the Vita’s absence of locks, since its best games all seem to get localization announcements…(that I was keeping track of)

    • Give in, and swear your eternal allegiance to Iwata.

    • raymk

I never get the stick it to the man attitude when it comes to the actual gaming systems being region locked.

  • z_merquise

Best news of the week! Day 1 for me, that’s for sure!

And I guess this is somewhat my only way of seeing Valkyria Chronicles 3 characters in English.

I wonder if they’ll do an English dub or leave it in Japanese. Having dual audio would be cool.

    • Brandonmkii

confirmed to just be in japanese.

    • Luna Kazemaru

from what I hear its just going to be in Japanese so yeah its only going to sell to the people that care. So hopefully they are going into this with low expectations

  • AlteisenX
  • RmanX1000

    Buying a 3DS XL now.

    • RichyGaming

Same here. I was gonna save my money for a new PS3 since its all busted and whatnot but I can’t miss out on this.

  • Taylor Greene

Fire Emblem, X Zone, Castlevania, Monster Hunter, Luigi’s Mansion, Animal Crossing. Going to be a good year for the 3DS.

    • Patrick McAleer

      And Pokemon X and Y :)

  • YES! YES!

    • ronin4life

      Is your profile pic “Kuro”?
      I Love that manga…

      • Why, yes, it is! I still need to go buy the third volume as I had been waiting for years for it.

        • ronin4life

I got into this past holiday… Really good manga. The 3rd volume is great by the way.
          Really itching for the next volume… hope I don’t have to wait as long as I heard 2-3 took… >.<;;;

          • What is this manga now?

          • ronin4life

Shoulder a Coffin Kuro. A four panel comic by satoko kiyoduki(GA geijutsuka art academy, Artsist for yygdra union).
            Has 3 volumes so far. And I apologize to everyone if I got any names or titles wrong…>.<;;;

  • Namdai is certainly taking this fan focus thing seriously.

  • M’iau M’iaut

So let’s count the number of characters we will be able to play as, whose real games we never got. :P

    • RichyGaming

We better get Tales of Vesperia, Xenosaga, Megaman, Tekken, Street fighter, Dot hack, EVERYTHING! And a BlazBlue DLC DERP

    • MrSirFeatherFang

Kurt Irving & Riela Marceris, Imca – Valkyria Chronicles III
Ichiro Ogami & Sakura Shinguji – Sakura Wars (1-4?)
Erica Fontaine – Sakura Wars (3, 4, Monogatari)
Reiji Arisu & Xiaomu (usable in Endless Frontier), Saya – Namco X Capcom
      Devilotte – Cyberbots
Bruno Delinger – Dynamite Cop (tbh we actually got this game re-skinned as Die Hard Arcade)
Sanger Zonvolt – Super Robot Wars OGs I forgot we got the GBA OGs games *facepalm*
Valkyrie – Valkyrie no Bouken: Toki no Kagi Densetsu
      Neneko/Neito – Yumeria

Here’s this crappy list I made.

      • Kibbitz

You can take out Reiji and Xiaomu because they were usable in Endless Frontier. Sanger Zonvolt was in the GBA version of SRT OG2 too.

      • M’iau M’iaut

Technically Ichiro and Sakura are in SW5, just not playable :P. And well you are right it ain’t their game, either.

      • M’iau M’iaut

Neneko was there to annoy the sh*t out of us with her endless NO DAS in the anime version of Yumeria, if you are that desperate to flog yourself over failure, kind Sir.

    • Brandonmkii

I can think of Valykyria Chronicles 3 off the top of my head. Are any Tales of Hearts characters in this?

  • This is normally when I’d post the hallelujah chorus, but posting video replies is kind of tacky.

    Tron Bonne…! Wait for me~!

  • Tales_of_Master

ARE YOU ****ING KIDDING ME ?!!!!! I don’t believe it !! Namco pulled off the impossible. Oh Jesus Christ this amazing news. I don’t think that I ever loved my 3DS as much as I’m doing now ;_; So freakin hyped for this :D

  • Ethan_Twain

….. WHAT? Namco-Bandai is localizing an SRPG that didn’t sell all that well and crosses over dozens of franchises (many of which have never been seen outside of Japan? The only precedent I can think of for a localization call this… ballsy would be when Capcom decided that Tatsunoko vs. Capcom for the Wii was really what North America needed. That was another crossover in a niche genre with a lot of franchises non-Japanese people had no chance of being familiar with.

Well now I need to figure out if I should buy this or not. I’m not the biggest crossover fan and even the franchises included in this that I’ve heard of are not my favorites. But I am a big SRPG fan and Monolith Soft absolutely has the chops to put together a super compelling RPG design – goofy narrative or no. This is the very definition of a game where I’ll wait for reviews I guess.

  • porkiewpyne

Thank you Namco Bandai. Sorry for doubting you all these while XD

  • Trotmeister

It’s funny that I’ve just finished the previous game in the series, Namco x Capcom. It’s actually a rather crappy game, and ridiculously long too, with mindless slaying of pathetically weak foes taking 99% of the time. From what I’ve seen of X Zone (which is actually a third crossover TRPG by Namco), it’s very similar, so I wouldn’t get too excited.

    • M’iau M’iaut

I think it is worth noting that this is a type of extreme target audience title we used to see more of. Heck the DS got someone stupid/crazy enough to bring Windy x Windam over and “oddball stuff” from the PS2 still gets played by plenty of folks.

      • Project X Zone was done by monolith soft so the issues with said game have been fixed apparently

    • raymk

Yes its similar and its battle system is just as bad. As I said below though you play the game for the fan-service not the combat system.

  • EdgeKun

  • Marco Tinè

Props to Bandai Namco for having the balls to do this! The news made my day :D

  • Here’s a good question: HOW?

    • Licensing isn’t very difficult.

      • Right. I don’t think you understand just how difficult this particular job was but thanks for the input anyways.

      • Luna Kazemaru

I don’t know where you got that false information.

      • raymk

You say that now but tell that to NISA with the localization of cross-edge.

      • ronin4life

This time, it might have been relatively easy. Capcom and sega just handed over rights in a deal to Namco for this game, which may have made the process far simpler.

Usually, you have multiple creators, actors adn liscencing deals to work through per game, and this most often acts as a huge “break” that screeches the localization train to a halt. It is far from simple.

  • Who is the troll roaming the comments down voting them all?

  • I’m shocked O_O. I can’t believe its actually happening instant pre-order. I’m still rather sad Atlus couldn’t bring over EXceeD but at least here comes Namco Bandai delivering the Megaton!

  • Masa

    I must be dreaming……must be.

  • JMaster3000

If just Rune Factory 4 and Bravery Default would be localized too D:

    • puchinri

At least we know those have high chances of coming over though~.

  • phangtom

They heard our voices, but now it’s time to speak with our wallets! We go to show them that the West do want these games, and that they do sell here!

    • raymk

Make sure the pre-order the game first chance you get.

  • MrTyrant

I can hardly believe it! my 3DS has another awesome title!

  • Christopher Dean

Wow, hats off to NamDai, Capcom, and Sega. I never thought we’d get this.

  • *explodes*

  • Alex Sargeant

I usually try to put my thoughts into more coherent prose. However..

  • Herok♞

… I think I have to change my pants now.

  • Kibbitz

Welp, so much for buying a JP 3DS just to play this or Soul Hackers. Still can’t run away from needing one for SRT UX though, alas. Only thing left is to see how well this actually sells. Hope it does well though.

  • WyattEpp

Hey, neat! You know, after Namco x Capcom, I really didn’t expect this.

  • zephyrsword

Now this is a surprise. Bring this to the EU as well, the region locking kills me.

    • zephyrsword

Nevermind, EU as well. I am happy ^^

  • Haseyo

Already got the JP version but I’m all for everyone else having it as well.

  • Ohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgod

    • puchinri

Haha. You summed up my reaction well. Cure White’s face just makes it better.

        P.S: Mah nigga

  • Eric Harris

    holy crap. that is all.

  • ffboi7

My body was not ready for this news!!! What do I do!!!

  • Jahmere Durham

    And now i must get a 3ds

  • Mavalex

Only got one thing to say about this; My money, take it. now

  • I regret nothing!! Summer 2013, guess that’s enough time to beat the JPN version before double dipping~

  • TheRealMalek

North america AND europe ? O_O

And here i was thinking that would be US only…

  • Raoni Marques

I’m so damn filled with joy right now. 2013 looks like it will be wonderful!

  • AuraGuyChris

Does that mean they’re making an absurdly long official poster plastered on a subway train?

  • Anime10121

    Wait, what, WHATTTTTTTTTT?

Wanted this ever since its announcement, yet never expected it to actually release. And the crazy thing? This announced for release before Bravely Default Flying Fairy? Man who would of thunk it :P

Still hopeful that BD:FF will be localized too, but this news right here, just further solidifies the reasons I got a 3DS! Namco’s doing extremely good by jrpg fans these days, and I as a fan, couldnt be happier :D

  • Godman

Well isn’t this a sweet turn of events :)

  • Natat

  • Soran Kimihiro

I really wished the 3ds was free region to be able to play more of these games…but now they are localizing it….just continue like that

  • Andrew A

Wow. This is great news. Kinda wish I hadn’t bought a Japanese 3DS and Project X Zone right about now. Knowing my luck, SRW UX will be localized too.

    • Kibbitz

I’m in the same boat, though SRT UX, localized? That would be amazing, though not something I remotely entertain as non-zero possibility.

  • Neophoton

While it’s nice this game is getting localized, it’s kind of sad Namco Bandai is more willing to bring this over than Square is with BDFF, considering the former was known for hoarding their imports.

Still, Namco Bandai continues to impress with progressively becoming more open about bringing over titles. I’m… actually proud of them!

    • Jesus Christ, give it time. Bravely Default barely came out in Japan a couple of months ago. Sheesh.

      • Luna Kazemaru

come on you know everytime a game gets localized that talk always HAS to come up *kappa*

      • Neophoton

Chillax, no need to get antsy. The games were released on the same day in Japan, so it doesn’t hurt to express interest.

        • I’m not upset. It’s just kind of annoying to see.

          *game announced*

          • Neophoton

Hm, don’t think I’ve said Square sucks — Rather, I expressed surprise with how well Namco’s been doing this past year with improved efforts. If that’s how you feel, though, can’t be helped.

          • I want Twewy 2 with Miiverse implementation like they have with Twitter on IOS.

      • puchinri

I think people are always in a rush and incredibly annoying and somewhat naggy about how fast they want announcements alone of titles, but it is weird to think that BD:FF only came out in Oct. And I suppose, I just feel used to the thought of Squeenix hinting at stuff really early. I have faith we’ll get the title though and don’t think they need to rush, but it was weird to recall how recently the game came out.

        • I think that might be because of how long we’ve been covering Bravely Default for, hahaha. I mean, we picked up on it from the very day it was announced and covered every little detail right up until release.

          • puchinri

I was thinking that played a part, hehe. x’D
It definitely made it feel longer, since everyone was googly-eyed pretty early on.

      • Kibbitz

Not that it matters, but I just want to point out that Bravely Default and PXZ share the same release day.

        • They do, but this is obviously an exception, even if it is a very pleasant surprise for the folks that wanted this game. Square’s support of portables has been second to none. Give it time.

  • landlock

The more weeks that pass the more and more I beginning to like Namco bandai. Great news.

  • Sweet Sui ♥

I will get this for Yuri Lowell alone… *w*

… Actually, he’s one of the few characters that I recognize here from a game that I played ^_^”” Others, I do recognize (like Megaman and Zero, for example), but I’ve never played any of their games so I couldn’t tell ya what my opinion of them showing up in this is, lol. Perhaps this game will serve as a “gateway drug” of sorts to encourage me to try out other series I’ve never tried before~ hooray for glorious crossover projects (and western releases as well!) (^o^)/ LOL

    • NekoDraga

It was due to both the Vesperia crew and the Resonance of Fate gang that I wanted this game. Now I just need a 3DS =)

  • Gallen

WOW!!!!!, I never expected this one to come outta Japan, and from Namco Bandai to boot.

  • TomSkylark

Well, looks like someone got their Ph.D. in figuring out how to make licensing work…

  • Mister_Nep

Oh my god this is a huge surprise! I didn’t expect this at all, but man I’m excited to pick up this game. So gonna pre-order this.

  • XiaomuArisu

I never gave up hope and this is my prize!

    • Shadowman

      That’s the spirit!

  • DragonSix

We get this strange game but not any of the sure good handled square enix ones. Strange times.

    • puchinri

I assume you mean Bravely Default? Are there others that I’m overlooking?
And it strange to see this first, but I’m holding out hope for BD:FF.

  • A god exists. His name is Harada.

  • Muffum

  • nilcam

This is good news but I already have an import copy on the way thanks to Play Asia’s $25 sale.

    • Ferrick

why =/, you can’t play it if you don’t have a japanese 3ds (all 3ds are region locked btw)

      • Brandonmkii

Maybe he has a Japanese 3DS? I have one from NA and Japan. It’s not uncommon for people who import games.

  • Shadowman

  • Sergio Briceño

Good to hear, more Yuri and Estelle is always appreciated.

  • Zal_Yagun

WOW. He did it…. Katsuhiro Harada done it!

  • KingGunblader

I can’t believe this is actually happening. I’m thinking it might be eShop only, however.

    • puchinri

Which still isn’t bad, but I personally love to have a case and (physical) manual, or at least the latter.

    • Go2hell66

its already been confirmed for physical release on there twitter

  • Maumac77

This is such great news. Now if only Namco’s news on Feb.4 is Tales related I’ll be overjoyed!

    • KingGunblader

Since Feb. 4 is after Ni No Kuni (and just before my birthday), I’m thinking (and hoping) that it’s the English Xillia trailer.

      • Neophoton

I feel bad for almost forgetting about ToX. I take it they won’t be hyping it too much until Ni no Kuni is out the door.

        • puchinri

Which would be pretty smart of them. Hehe, I practically forgot too though.

          • Neophoton

Yeah, it is understandable since they’d want to drum up hype for what is currently being released next.

      • Maumac77

I think the VA I want to hear the most is Tipo’s I have a feeling that might be the one that gets butched. I’ll still buy it nonetheless……but It’ll be like Mieu all over again, (Yes I hated Mieu’s voice)

  • kylehyde

Could this spanish list be true after all?

I mean Code of princess was confirmed for Europe a few weeks ago, and now this game, if a third game on this list is confirmed I’m going to totally believe in it. I really want to believe.

    • That list was confirmed to be a mistake.

      • kylehyde

Oh well. Still I hope that at least bravely default gets localized by the end second half of the year or in the first quarter of the 2014.

    • puchinri

      It would be nice if BD:FF and E.X. Troopers proved to be true. ;u;
I still really want the 3DS version to come out here at least. (Do we know if the sales stayed low/bad, by the way?)

      • I’d love to have May’n singing XD

        • puchinri

I know~! Oh man, I didn’t realize how many seiyuu and singers I love were involved with it. (Saori Hayami, Yu Kobayashi, Miyuki Sawashiro and May’n. Just too much to bear. ♥)

  • Spirit Macardi

Can we get some new character added in for the NA release? Like Klonoa and Sonic? You know… Characters that would actually make me want to buy this game.

    • Neophoton

Doubt they’ll add any more characters, but with a cast that large, it’d be surprising to not find a character one wouldn’t be interested in.

      • Spirit Macardi

The only characters in it that I like are the Tales of Vesperia cast and original Dante.

I have a personal standard for crossovers where each series I like that’s represented in it = $5 I’m willing to spend on it. Since it’s only two, that means this is only worth $10 to me, and the game will no doubt go out of print before it reaches that low of a price.

Although, the presence of Klonoa = day-one purchase at full price x3

        • Neophoton

Kind of short-sighted not to factor in the gameplay and effort for the development, non? I’d at least toss in another $10 for those.

          • Spirit Macardi

I think it’s pretty reasonable. I mean, $5 for what amounts to the mere presence of a character or two? I think that can easily account for their cost of gameplay and effort. Though I forgot that Resonance of Fate was in this, so that bumps it to $15

It’s not like I’m taking what would be the full price of the game and fractioning it out based on characters, since that would mean even less money that I’d be willing to spend x3

Plus, out of the number of series that they have that I like, only three came up? Where’s Onimusha, Viewtiful Joe, Okami, Monster Hunter, Solatorobo, Tower of Druaga, Phantasy Star, Skies of Arcadia, or any number of other series? Not to mention some of those series were previously in Namco X Capcom, so there’s really no excuse for them being absent.

          • Neophoton

Welcome to fanservice games, where popularity dominates. Solatorobo, as awesome as it was, will probably never get into a game like this. :<

          • Spirit Macardi

That’s why I prefer Nintendo’s method. Whenever they’ve made a new Smash Bros. they’ve included a bunch of popular characters, as well as a few that people don’t know or had practically forgotten about. As a result, those lesser known games typically get a sudden popularity boost leading to brand new titles (Mother/Earthbound, Kid Icarus) or first time appearances outside of Japan (Fire Emblem).

        • Monolith Soft is going to bust a cap in yo behind for that

        • raymk

Um tales of vesperia has more than 2 characters playable. Also hell no to sonic keep his ass out!

          • Spirit Macardi

When did I say that it didn’t? I said for each SERIES represented, not each character.

The statement about “a character or two” referred to crossovers in-general, since usually two is the maximum.

    • puchinri

      Seeing Klonoa would be fantastic. Sonic would be a nice addition, but Klonoa really needs more love. ;u;

    • raymk

There are plenty of characters that will make others buy the game already. They were never going to please everyone anyway, least you can do is enjoy the characters you like in the game. Some people only like megaman and zero and yet are still buying.

      • Spirit Macardi

And that’s their right to buy it. The presence of a character like that is clearly worth the full price of admission in their eyes, and I say good for them.

It’s not my personal metric though. So I’ll be giving this game a pass, but if you want it then go ahead and get it. It’s your money after all.

  • Learii

i need to but a 3ds for thisgame dam it

  • Roberto Cavalcante Souza

    well time to 3ds

  • YES
I know it is mostly a fanservice game but it is an epic one at that.

    • puchinri

I think crossover games like this and Smash especially are the best kind of fanservice~.

  • MPHavoc

So, I’ll finally get to see Yuri and Dante speak with one another.
*gets on his knees and cries tears of joy* God bless you, Namco!

  • puchinri

Wow. This is a very pleasant surprise. Go Bamco.

  • Shadowman

    God bless you Mr. Harada.

  • Mister_Nep

Now that the shock has worn off. I’m wondering, Will there be any characters cut out because of licensing issues. Most will be easy to do, but what about the Japan-only game series characters and and the anime characters?

I imagine those won’t be as easy to bring over.

    • puchinri

I was wondering that too. Capcom did a pretty great job with Tatsunoko, so I’m hoping they’ll be able to put as much effort as they did there into pulling some strings here, and for characters that are company-specific, well, there’s no reason they have to remove them just because we didn’t get the game. (Say, Bamco taking out a VC3 character; it’d be unnecessary to me.)

    • Tatsuya1221

I doubt it will be a problem, we did get the characters from namco X Capcom in endless frontier after all, since all of the characters are owned by sega, capcom or namco, i doubt it’s an issue.

There was also chaos wars on the ps2 and cross edge/X edge on the ps3, which also had many characters from series that never made it to the us, for instance.

  • GuyAlpha

This isn’t a joke is it? It isn’t? Oh. Oh god, I’m foaming. pfpffpffrrsshshrhrhr

  • Josh Strange

3DS sales are going to increase

  • Ferrick

my money… TAKE EM! TAKE MY MONEY BAMCO! *shoves money into BAMCO’s mouth*

  • Settsuo

All I can say is thanks BAMCO!

  • Tom_Phoenix

To be honest, out of all the crossover games, this had the highest chances of getting localised. Afterall, compared to other such titles, the licensing for this one was probably preety straightforward, since all the licenses belong to the three companies involved and all of them have overseas divisions.

Nevertheless, this IS a preety major (pleasant) suprise. Afterall, we’re still talking about a game in a niche genre with lots of text that needs to be translated. Plus, most of the characters involved from Namdai and Sega come from games that are virtually unknown outside of Japan, so the crossover appeal isn’t as strong with a non-Japanese audience. Regardless, I’m extremely happy that Namdai decided to take a chance with this and I hope the gamble will pay off.

Putting that aside, however, I am wondering if we will see any cuts or changes. Most of the characters should be fine, since (as I mentioned before) they are owned by the three companies involved. But Dynamite Cop might be an issue. Not beacuse of the license itself (that clearly belongs to Sega), but beacuse of Bruno Delinger’s likeness to Bruce Willis.

Also, I’m not suprised by the compromise they took with the voice acting. An english voiceover would probably be more expensive than just paying the fees for the Japanese one and this game is already bound to only sell to a niche audience as it is.

    • SetzerGabbiani

Very thoughtful post. I had the same questions about Dynamite Cop as Fox owns part of that license through Die Hard Arcade. It was my expectation that they would do the same thing with the voices that Atlus did for SRT:OG Endless Frontier. and it was confirmed.

  • kroufonz

Thank you very much bamco, can’t believe a game where there is chara from something like yumeria ever see the day coming to the west.
    neneko is happy nanoda

guesss it wasn’t that impossible since all character owned by the three company itself, i get the feeling nintendo did some kind of push/ help to localize this (it’s made by monolith Soft after all), now i am hope namco follow their good move with localizing more gundam and [email protected] game next.

  • Tatsuya1221

Wow, namco sure has changed it’s treatment of niche titles for the better as of late, hopefully they’ve learned the lesson NIS and atlus learned and release more of their more niche games over here (the tales series comes to mind), there’s money to be made from such titles over here, especially with the lack of good jrpg’s as of late, i will certainly support this localization with my money.

  • KingGunblader

UPDATE: Just in case you guys didn’t know, apparently it will be English text with Japanese VA… according to this Destructoid report.

    • Nightmesh

That’s a little disappointing but I guess it would cost to much to get enough english VA’s for each character. Then make sure they sound close enough. Happy we’re getting this anyway. I had no hope of this ever making it over here.

    • Kaihedgie

      Dammit! D:

    • fireemblembeast

No problems here! I always use subs anyways… And anyways, the audience buying this is largely made up of people who watch anime and don’t mind JP audio, so…
(Sorry to other people who would like English VA.)
This probably will reduce the time it takes to bring it here, too! :)

      • raymk

Well no that’s actually not true in the slightest, the people who will buy this are largely made of those who just see a character they know and buy it.

    • raymk

Meh I already knew it would be that way if it did have a chance to come over.
I will say that the only thing that’s a problem is the same one with OG saga. Can’t understand what they are saying in battle :(.

    • LynxAmali

Sigh. So much for understanding the battle banter. (I understand written moon fine, just don’t understand spoken.)

  • Wow. That’s genuinely surprising.

    Wonder if it’s worth it?

  • Theofratus ‘Geese’ Lester

I can always count on Katsuhiro Harada to do things such as this.
If this sells well, then we might be able to see Namco X Capcom on PSN… hopefully.

  • FFmax

Holy crap. This is actually happening?!

  • Benny Tormoes

This’ll be on my christmas list for sure :)

  • Shane Guidaboni

Wait, is this game actually good?

  • Prinnydoom

I love you capnamse *Capcom sega Namco*

  • fireemblembeast

Oooh yay! ^__^ I never would have thought they would pick this up what with all that licensing and the characters from games we never got! This is great news!(for me, but not for my poor wallet, not getting a break lately) Day one!

    But I’d rather have Xillia tbh, so I don’t want this to delay Namco Bandai bringing that here… still waiting on that. >_>;

    • Nightmesh

The mass majority of us would rather have Xilllia.

    • Sylveria

It’s coming over this year isn’t it? You’re getting both and yet you’re still complaining that you’re not getting one sooner than the other.

Man no wonder Namco took a “Screw the west” standing for so long.

      • fireemblembeast

I try not to complain. I clearly expressed that I was happy, but I just mentioned the rest as a side note.
Mainly I just want a release date or to hear something more from Xillia (todays news is just screenshots but nice to see nonetheless). Also I wanted something more specific-like this one has summer 2013, but Xillia just has 2013…

  • YES.

  • They better put in english voices. That was what I didn’t like about Endless Frontier. They left japanese voices in EF and it felt like a cheap incomplete localization.

    • Alexander Marquis Starkey

I doubt they’ll have the voice acting budget to call in enough people to voice 50 different characters, and if so a lot of folks will sounds the same.

    • Brandonmkii

Already confirmed to be just the Japanese dub.

  • shocked and elated.

  • Captain_Jiruo

This Video pretty much sums up my feelings upon reading the news…

  • $29082171

    Is this a dream?

  • OverlordZetta

On one hand, I’m psyched that I already decided on getting a 3DS anyway.
On the other, I’m still miffed there’s no Sonic representative in this game.

  • HilariousNPC

Wow. Everything I hated about Namco X Capcom is BACK!

Instead of 50 characters to play as, I get a number of arbitrary forced pairs of characters. Awesome!

All the moving around on a grid that action players hate, and forced action bits that all the strat-RPG players hate! Amazing design choices!

(I’m guessing here, as I haven’t seen this new game.) Moving your units to clear out the map, and then having useless enemies spawn on the map behind you so battles that are foregone conclusions take twice as long!

Passing on this game SO HARD.

    • raymk

I’m sure the majority of people are here for the fan-service which is honestly what the game is good for. The rest of that stuff doesn’t really matter as long as its fun enough to get to the story bits.

      • HilariousNPC

That was the problem, though. The fanservice bits were interrupted by battles that would, no exaggeration, take hours. I’m not even talking about combat. Waiting for the enemy to move 20 units individually 3 different times before they could get into range was torturous.

I’m all for fanservice, which is why I bought Namco X Capcom in the first place. But they just need to follow the straight up SRT mold and make this a regular strat-RPG with dynamic-looking attacks, or make it a regular RPG with the dynamic attacks, and scrap this “worst possible combination” hybrid combat system that they have right now.

  • ragingmerifes

SMTIV just lost its place as my most expected game of 2013. Amazing…

  • JoJo_649

Namco is being pretty generous aren’t they? first Ni no Kuni, Tales of Graces F, One Piece and now this, hopefully Jojo’s Bizzarre Adventure All Star Battle is next!!!!

  • Epitome

Are u serious well guess i can no longer talk about how crappy nintendo
was for region locking there system and how stupid i was to get it a full price when it didnt have any good game i really wated. Maybe i should wait and see if we can get Super Robot Taisen 2nd and Namco X Capcom and Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus Shoujotachi no Shoumei Nyuu Nyuu Pack Deluxe LE too really shocked at this and kinda carious why part 2 of my favorite ds game nvr came out here Endless Frontier 2. This and Senran Kagura are day one buys. Oh totally forgot about Super Robot Taisen UX the world needs to be covered in Super Robots this year too.

  • This will go down in history. Namco Bandai, you have my uttermost respect and dedication. You guys ROCK for doing this.

  • Brandonmkii

    >Harada teases an announcement on twitter.

    >Turns out it’s for Tekken Card Tournament.

    >People are sad it’s not PXZ.

    >PXZ announced for localization the same day.

    >Trolling level: Maximum.

Good job in releasing this, Bamco <3

  • I honestly don’t care how much it costs.

  • Junko Enoshima

So excited! But what will the ESRB rate this?

    • “S” for Shocking.

  • LoL
Just love how many more people react to this GREAT news on siliconera as opposed to the joystiq demographic.

  • TatsuyaKyo

Tonight, I’m going to dance around the graveyard while chanting in latin to celebrate. :p

  • Ty Arnold

It’s going to be heartbreaking when everyone who’s hyped over this game gets around to actually playing it, doing the same combo over and over again, and realizing that the game isn’t actually very good.

Still, at least you can play as Yuri Lowell. That’s got to count for something.

    • MrTyrant

I like griding combos and I enjoyed Namco x Capcom and Endless Frontier gameplay. Yep even NxC. You think I would love to play with Yuri? what’s wrong with everyone? he isn’t that great for god sake. You have a huge cast of good characters that are better.

  • Andrew Strozier

    Hyper combo purchased!

  • IshimaruKaito

  • Visa Vang

BLKDJBFLKDJBNCMXBNlkajshncbxzlkvjhuJKDlaksdljkfh! That’s how I feel. It’s great to see Kos-Mos and T-elos working together is a DREAM COME TRUE!! Now, time for me to find that ultra-rare Kos-Mos Figma to stand next to her sister.

  • Richard N

    All those voices…

Hope it’s not gonna be as horrific as the Chaos War dub.

  • Pockystix

Sooooo. . . that mean we can see VC3 here too?

  • YES YES YES OMG YES! Ahhhhhh, this made my day. Thank you Ishaan, I love you so much for letting us know >-<

  • Wait, I just realized…Does this mean they have to find voice-actors for games that didn’t even localize here? Lol, I want to know who is going to voice Kurt Irving <3

    • Marcelo Gouvea

Well, they did in Trinity Universe/Cross Edge, if I remember correctly. I mean, they weren’t big franchise characters, but… yeah.

    • Go2hell66

      no voice acting, all japanese

  • darkfox1

HYYYYYYPEEEEEE man summer if my best time of getting games because I get summer jobs :D

  • TheExile285

great, now I have a reason to buy a 3DS! localize Bravely Default $E and I’m set!

  • Aoshi00

Good thing I didn’t import from Play-Asia, they had a 1-day sale for less than $30 some days ago.. Often times when a Jpn title is on sale on P-A, it’s an indication it would be localized, as if they got the news first and wanted to get rid of their stock :)

  • anthony apduhan

humana humana humana humana humana humana humana humana

P.S. I sure hope Capcom doesn’t do something trollish with this game :( I really want Megaman X for real!

  • Tonton Ramos

Fantastic! Since this game is coming after the release a note to Capcom that they should research this game more on Megaman X’s moveset and take notes so that for sure he’ll be in future MVC games.

  • Göran Isacson

I do not even know what to feel about this. It may well come to pass that I will not find this game that much fun when I actually DO have it in my hands, but dammit all… I WILL have this in my hands. There is too much service for it to avoid my grasp.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Really happy that many people cares for this title here.^_^ And here i am hoping that this game can be another kind of SmashBros and being a gateway for all the three game companies to be able to show case their lesser known franchise.^_^
Who knows in the future we will find a new Sakura Taisen or Valkyrie Chronicles coming here as many fans now knows the game.^_^

    • M’iau M’iaut

That would really be my desire of this game. That even rather serious hobbyists find a character or two they were otherwise unaware of and good courses of action happen. Now only if Sega can explain why we had to get Sakura and the other two ‘canon’ girls, thus keeping me from renewing my love for Iris and introducing me to Coquelicot.

      • Kibbitz

You pretty much answered your own question there anyway with the “canon” bit though.

  • Nitraion

I report “Operation Rainfall success” ~over

  • tubers

i am now 110% sure to be getting the next 3DS XL slick deal..

  • gamefreak86

Thank you Namco and Mr. Harada!

  • 2013 starting on an awesome manner – Checked.
