Sega have released a lengthy new trailer for the PlayStation Vita version of Phantasy Star Online 2, which is slated for release this February in Japan. Take a look at it below:

As previously reported, the PlayStation Vita version of Phantasy Star Online 2 will be a free download and free-to-play game like its PC counterpart. Both versions will be compatible with one another, both for multiplayer and character data transfer.

  • I wonder if this will come out stateside. I think it should; PSO2 is fun!

This being the Vita version. I know PSO2 PC is coming. Though you can get an english patch now if so inclined.

    • Or just play it in Japanese. Though be prepared for a long sign up time on Sega’s service if you don’t know Japanese XD

      • “PSO2 is fun!” indicating that I’ve been playing the game

  • Kevin Lor

My only fear is that in a long distant future the server would shut down :( Only reason why I want an offline for the vita version

    • its free….

      • G.

Yeah but it still has microtransactions; Plus all of that work you put into a game. It’s never nice when servers are shut down. But don’t expect that any time soon. I don’t think it is anything anyone should worry about.

      • Kevin Lor

Never said anything about it not being free… I’m just saying I want to keep it forever and ever and ever

    • TheExile285

Yeah, I agree. I’d rather spend $40 for a offline game (Phantasy Star Portable?)

If we actually got this, I’d consider getting one of those sub accounts so if they shut down the Vita version, I’d be screwed because I can’t play this on my PC

      • Kevin Lor

Yes! 20 years from now I might wanna go back and play it!

  • Elvick

I really hope they bring over this version. I don’t really care about it on PC, but I’d give it a go on Vita.

    • Josh Strange

PSO2 on PC takes priority over everything else, you do know that right? so don’t hold your breath.

      • Uh what’s with that remark, it could most certainly happen on PSVITA I don’t know why you think so. This is SEGA’s decision so I’m not taking anything but from them and that includes my localization for the Vita version…

    • Willi Meyhoff

yeah me too. I can’t wait to play this!

  • Still looking great! Maybe they will have plans to release the Vita version outside of Japan soon. I hope we get word on the PC version getting localized soon as well.

    • Locklear93

As I recall, we already have word on the PC version. It’s just not happening fast.

      • I know they announced it, but they said it was supposed to be coming out sometime in January. As of today where I am, it will only be January for 5 more hours lol

        • A.Yeh

No, they only said, 2013, which can be any month in 2013.

          • Are you sure? Because I could’ve sworn it was January they said. If so, then my mistake.

  • It looks like you can heal yourself and cast spells by tapping the touch screen. That’s cool.

  • Can’t wait to get my hands on this. Oh boy :D

  • Dranzerkai

Still surprised after the success that PS Universe had on Xbox that they excluded PSO2 from the console scene altogether. As far as I know, the 360 version of PSU is the only still running version of the game. =/

    • Brandonmkii

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but they shut down the 360 version last September And I really think the only reason it lasted so long was because said servers were owned by Microsoft and they could afford to keep them open longer than Sega would have.

  • So, I know this is a pretty big franchise, but just want to hear what the community thinks: think this will move Vitas? I don’t know what kind of reception the game has been getting in Japan.

    • Locklear93

If it’s as good as the original PSO, I honestly think it’d at least be a small bump, mainly in Japan. PSO certainly has fans here, but it’s not anything like a household name. It’d need a serious marketing push for this to move Vitas here.

      • Alright, thanks for the insight friend.

  • Jeremy Barnes

Don’t care until they bring it over. It’s like Sega actively tries to make fans hate them nowadays. Maybe they need to bring Bernie back.

    • Guest

Still not as bad as Crapcom & Bamco but yeah I agree. They still haven’t put PS Portable 2 back on PSN after they “accidentally” removed….

    • Kris

You mean the man who famously tried to keep 2D games and RPGs off the Saturn in the West? And the PS1 when he worked at Sony? I dunno… I’ll take the Sega we have over another Bernie Stolar Sega. (Well, I guess he did launch the Dreamcast, so he has that going for him)

      • shadowind

BTW, whatever happened to him? As far as I’m concerned, the guy was a total wanker!

  • TheExile285

Doesn’t Sega make that Samuarai & Dragons game for Vita? I feel like the fact that we still haven’t gotten that game (even though it’s also on iOS….) is foreshadowing that we won’t get this. I hope I’m wrong….

    • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

It is coming here. I even think Siliconera had one thread on it

      • TheExile285

Yeah, I just did some research and it has not been confirmed for NA or EU. It was however translated into English for a Asian PSN release:

Guess its back to waiting for Pictto Knights for me

  • Potato

Anybody know how big the game is?

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Sega i am still waiting for your PC release here.T_T

  • Naux

It would be crazy if this was released in the west, too. The vita version that is.
And then it would support 3G. One can always dream!

  • Lester Paredes

I’d play it if they brought it out over here.

  • Sergio Briceño

Sega your evil. If you get more hyped for this I will explode. Stop.
