Project Awakened Promises To Let You Be A Superhero, Ninja, Samurai And More

Once upon a time, defunct publisher, Midway, had a project in development called “Hero”. We uncovered concept art from the game back in early 2011. Now, Hero is continuing at Chicago-based studio, Phosphor Games, as Project Awakened. Here’s a concept video for the game:

Phosphor’s ambitious goals for Project Awakened are as follows:

  • Create the video game character of your dreams
  • Play how you want in an immersive story
  • A game world that responds to your every move
  • Scores of abilities and weapons that modify each other
  • Seemingly limitless outfit and gear customization options
  • Built with breathtaking graphics tech in Unreal Engine 4
  • (Stretch Goal) The perfect Action Adventure Modding tool kit
  • (Stretch Goal) Multiplayer supporting a wide range of playstyles

Project Awakened is being developed on Epic’s new Unreal Engine 4 and is being funded via Kickstarter. Thus far, Phosphor Games’ Kickstarter campaign has received $22,751 in backings. The goal is to reach $500,000 by March 6th.

“Although the game has been in development for a few years, the money generated from the Kickstarter campaign will allow Phosphor Games to have a dedicated team help finish the title, as well as add a number of exciting features to the game,” Phosphor’s press release reads.

Project Awakened is in development for PCs. Chip Sineni, Phosphor Games’ Studio Director describes it as “a game that virtually every publisher loved, but was afraid to make”.

Now HERE’S a game I can fund. I don’t have a PC capable of playing anything, but I’m willing to fund this for the sheer ambition displayed by their goals. Unreal Engine 4 guarantees that it’ll be pretty on top of whatever gameplay goals they meet, too.

Project Awakened allows you to create the character of your dreams.

    >Super-powered Samurai
    >Super-powered Samurai with a huge Mecha

    Okay, I’m interested.

    • Christopher Abraham

It’s basically Raiden from MGS: Revengeance

      • TatsuyaKyo

Being good with a katana and being a samurai are two different things. :P

And anyway, I meant a samurai with ESP.

      • Solomon_Kano

        Raiden’s a ninja tho. :V

  • Lightthrower

    Another UE3/4 shooter…. yeah…. no…

  • Can I have 8 arms, wields various weapons and call myself the GREAT GILGAMESH?

  • uchihalord1994

Soo … do we get to fly ? :33 lol

I have supported over 20 video game projects on Kickstarter thus far and this is the first one I have ever looked at and concluded there is no way the game can be produced for the budget proposed by this team. This is the type of game that requires a large team and a massive budget. There’s a reason you don’t see projects of this scope being picked up by publishers and the credits of this team aren’t exactly inspiring.

Man, why must you ruin my dreams with harsh reality? :(

Eeh, I’m kidding. I get where you’re coming from, I too feel that 500 K is a bit on the small side for a game of this scope. Still… I would be lying if I said that it sure would be cool IF it could get made. And I’ve supported things for worse reasons than if…

I highly doubt they are budgeting this game at 500k. They have already been working on it for few years and their involvement with Epic Games and Unreal 4’s development allows them to develop this game for less than would otherwise be possible but the kickstarter seems part proof of interest, part last push that gets them over the top.

And the credits of this team are probably better than 99 percent of other game kickstarters out there.

The concept is interesting, and I found the demo displayed to be rather impressive, but I’ll have to wait to see if it’s really worth an investment. Despite that, I hope they achieve their goal.

  • Pockystix

When I first saw the Hero trailer I was so pissed that it was already cancelled. . .

really hope this one gets off the ground!

  • Visa Vang

Can I create a Harem route?

I kinda wish this was co-oped by a Japanese studio. They seem have more sense in dramatic super powers shows.

  • Mazdian

Ah, I’ve been keeping up with Phosphor for a while now. Nice to see that they’re still working on the game after all this time!

  • Valtiel Ikari

    so can I be a super-samurai-ninja-mecha-psichic-hero-thatsummons-ReiAyanami-clones-in-bikini-clad-armors-that-wields-m16-to-support-me?
    …. too much?
    still looks cool.

  • HassanJamal

Ah so this was that cancelled IP. Good to see theyre not letting it die :D

  • Kai2591

    A geek’s dream….and I’m a geek!

  • frank xiong

    the project looks promising

  • CirnoTheStrongest

Can I be an Ice sorceress loli catgirl thief!? Cause that’s what my actual videogame character of my dreams would be…
