Hold your sea horses: Aquaman jokes are comming.

  • Göran Isacson

Nice to see someone who’s not Batman get some of the spotlight. Little bit weird that Flash and Captain Marvel joined up with Superman though…

    • I agree regarding Flash, he’s always supposed to be the moral compass an voice of reason, but i definitely think Captain Marvel would side with Superman, he’s a very idealistic, good vs evil sort of guy who would definitely fight for a peaceful world that ends all evil, even if it’s a totalistic peace

      • Hollowkoopa

He also has the mind of a kid so he does view the world as Black and White.

      • Göran Isacson

On the other hand, I recall an episode of Justice League in which Captain Marvel went against Superman when Superman did things he, in his very idealistic way, saw as wrong. So I dunno, I guess that it will depend on HOW tyrant-like Superman goes? Like, if Superman is honestly hunting down and killing heroes, I bet you that Marvel won’t join him for long. Or that he will be one of the first to turn against Superman and Wonder Womans regime.

Then again, expecting this game to pay close homage to the characters may be a fools errand. In an interview with Ed Boon, he pretty much said that he’s far less concerned with having the characters stay true, than he is with presenting a story that lets different characters beat each other up, so maybe I shouldn’t think too much about this.

        • puchinri

I don’t remember the episode myself, but I wouldn’t be surprised (and as much as I love the JL cartoon, it does have inconsistency problems and extrapolates quite a bit *coughWondycough*). What’s surprising to me actually is that Wondy is with Supes. She will do what needs to be done, but even this seems extreme for her.

I agree though. I think it does take a number of liberties with a few people. Hah! He’s honest at least. I’m always mixed about those kind of sentiments. I love brawling crossovers, but I like having some consistency and truth to my characters.

          • Göran Isacson

Yeah, I include Wonder Womans turn for the villanous under Boons statement that he did whatever he had to do in order to get heroes fighting each other. I think his words were something along the lines of “I had people come up to me and go ‘Dude, Character X would never do that’ and all I was thinking was ‘you know character X isn’t actually real, right?'” Which.. yeah, in one light it seems kind of dismissive, but on the other hand his mission IS to make a game where they all fight each other. Though I wonder if he’d say the same if someone did this to HIS Mortal Kombat characters…

          • puchinri

Heh, yeah, good point. I do wonder if that logic would hold up if he was seeing it with his own characters.

I feel like the only healthy alternative to this would work for the good guys fighting each other (which is what I propose for a PreCure fighting game; “training”). But at the same time, maybe don’t try to give it such a grimdark story and background, and it’d be easier to do.

Or, just try to keep people as consistent as possible. I don’t see why Wondy and Flash couldn’t be a different party altogether (or side with Bats). Then again, the story has to revolve around Supes and Bats, right? ono

          • Göran Isacson

Ha ha, true. Marvel Vs Capcom threw in Galactus, but then again they didn’t even try to write a story. I do wonder what is really the better option here- MVC3 basically threw it’s hands in the air and went “eh a bunch of dimensions are just slammed together and now it’s fighty time GO GO GO don’t even bother with a story”. They didn’t even care.

Now these people tried to spin one, but it… just doesn’t look like it’s gonna be very good? They rejected a story where it’s villains versus heroes because I GUESS they wanted to be edgy, but how are you going to make a satisfying ending to that kind of premise that is NOT just “and then one hero got beaten up and shown the error of his ways and this story didn’t really challenge anyones perceptions of storytelling or offer us any new insights or developments sooo what was the point?”

          • puchinri

My problem is, when you’re trying to create a story with established characters, if you have to kill some people’s personality to accomplish it, you’re already slighting yourself story-wise. And then there is the last point you brought up on top of that. That’s why I can’t say I care for people trying to make a story, if they’re just going to do things that will clash with it anyway (if I don’t accept that from some of the writers in the comics, why should I accept that from anyone else? Being a game is not a free pass).

I feel like if it’s just aiming to be fun, it doesn’t need to focus heavily on creating a story and trying to justify it, and it could still be grimdark. Heck, they should have taken a stronger Justice Lords aspect instead of trying to make so many parties clash against each other for weak reasons (not that they’re entirely bad reasons, but even the comic is having a hard time not contradicting itself, but that doesn’t say much for DC right now as a whole anyway).

    • puchinri

Capt. Marvel typically views Supes as his idol though, and I think it isn’t outside of reason that he’d see things Supes’s way (and what Omega said).

      • Göran Isacson

Mm, read it and commented back to him- while I see your point, I don’t think he would be THIS obedient.

    • Brion Valkerion

Batman seems to be the main character in this story so it makes sense to get them all in. That and after the movies, Bats is the most well known hero in the world from DC atm. it makes sense business wise as well. They most likely want to put the bats out their first, to make the rest of the line up and hype more diverse.

A lot of characters are from Batman originally but most have ventured out into other heroes stories or have their own separate comics now a days. But its easy to see why people see them as Batman characters first instead of “everywhere” characters ya know?

      • Göran Isacson

I wish I had your faith in game developers and that the coming announcements will have less Batfocus, but alas- I am not holding my thumbs. I’m sure there are at least SOME more foes they think they can squeeze in.

  • Interface23

Now the game will suck because of the Aquaman Curse.

    • Just Tim

With that said, will he end up as the in-game equivalent of Dan Hibiki?

  • puchinri

    I didn’t even realize he hadn’t been announced until now. It’s sad how many Batman villains we saw announced (playable and just background) before we had confirmation of another JL memeber. ^u^;

    • Wake

It’s unavoidable. People were going to notice the abundance of Batverse characters either way. They probably just got it out of the way, just front-loaded all things Batman.

I know it’s a bit of wishful thinking, but I’m hoping for some Vertigo characters. Constantine, Cassidy from Preacher, maybe even Lucifer. Even cameos would be great. Or stages based on the realm’s of the Endless.

      • puchinri

That probably was it. It’s just sad that we saw all of them before we got another JL hero announced. Almost a sense of priorities, but yeah, they might have just wanted to get all of the Batman out of the way.

Vertigo characters would make a ton of sense, but given DC’s nature (depending on how much of a hand they have), I don’t see it happening sadly. (But if JL Dark is still going, I could see Constantine having some chance of being playable.)

    • Solomon_Kano

It’s kinda baffling to me that there’s been no mention of Martian Manhunter. Much less that there’s been no mention of him before some of the other names that have popped up, even beyond Batman characters. He’s not a character I care for, but he’s a prominent JL member.

      • puchinri

As far as I recall, he hasn’t had a real role in the current comic so far though either, right? That might be a reason (and given they just gave YJ the boot, he won’t be featured in AU stuff either). It’s unfortunate, and I love him a lot personally, and I really believe that they could do awesome things with a moveset for him, but alas, I am not surprised.

        • Solomon_Kano

Yea, he isn’t in the new comic either. I thought I read something about him being on a different team in the New 52, but maybe not?

Personally, I only liked him in the DCAU, but he definitely deserves a role here. His power set definitely would make him something different.

  • Haseyo

    Watch him be top tier.

  • kupomogli

How did he get in the game. Who likes Aquaman anymore?

    • puchinri

      Some people do. ^u^;
Well, I love Mera. Really think they should have added her instead.

    • MrSirFeatherFang
    • kylehyde

Well the DCAU made him really awesome (and made him act like a boss). Most of the negative perception around him came from the “super friends” show. However, he really improved after the new 52.

Still, there are times when the first thing that came to my mind after hearing his name is this.

    • TheExile285

I do. Especially the New 52 version

      • Brion Valkerion

Same, soon as I saw the first cover on issue 1, I was interested in him for the first time.

    • Pat Z

By that logic they should add no one but Batman characters.

As a character, he’s fine (no, seriously) Parts of the old Superfriends cartoon + Family Guy have pretty much killed the reputation of the character though lol. This is their chance to try and make him “cool” though, I see nothing wrong with them going for it.

    • Solomon_Kano

The DCAU, Young Justice, and New 52 versions are all cool. It’s not like the Super Friends version is the only one lol.

    • Brion Valkerion

Yeah you should check out the New 52 series for Aquaman, its surprisingly addictive. And the artwork is down right amazing. The absolute way to turn around the jokes about the character is to give him high quality story and artwork. And show case he can do more than just talk to fish lol.

    • Kalis Konig

Where have you been? Aqua is considered the best of the new 52 comics in the general DC fandom lol

  • phangtom

So… All the cast has to do is avoid a river and sea and he’s screwed? Might as well put Magickarp in the game… I’m joking, at least he can flail with his trident.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

BEHOLD the Dan Hibiki of the ga! wait nvm they made him badass

  • JohnNiles

The burning (drowning?) question: who will Aquaman side with?

    • Solomon_Kano

The trailer makes it clear that he’s rolling with Bats, I felt.

      • Brion Valkerion

Aquaman is more of Batman’s friend than Superman’s. He kinda never sees eye to eye with the man of steel lol.

        • Solomon_Kano

Oh, I know. That’s something I’ve liked about the character.

      • JohnNiles

Ah, nuts. I just realized that I don’t have Java or Flash updated, and that there is a trailer. Thanks.

        • Solomon_Kano

          No prob.

  • AuraGuyChris

  • TheExile285

He looks badass. If I get this, he will be my main.

Also why does every Netherelm game have to have a lot of blood. I’m guessing M rating for this?

    • Solomon_Kano

Nah, it’s T. No fatalities, just some bleeding.

    • Brion Valkerion

Better stay away from the actual comics then, DC comics has a ton of blood and gore, past Mortal Kombat levels, but to the general public outside the comics they are still safe from that stuff. No one would believe how much blood ect is in Green Lantern, Superman, (Batman is understandable) ect. just from the tv shows and what not.

      • Solomon_Kano

Remember that time Black Adam skidded down a mountain on a Yeti’s entrails? Good times.

        Seriously, gore galore.

  • Solomon_Kano

This is the first trailer that’s had me genuinely excited for this game. The Aquaman trailer. Aquaman. Aquaman. Aquaman.

    Who’d have thunk it?

    • Yeah man just last week I was like. Nah I wont get this game (after seeing the clips with catwoman ._.)

      • Solomon_Kano

I’ve been put off by how few characters I actually care about are in it, but this looked genuinely cool.

        What’s happening with Catwoman?

        • I didnt like how she fought . looked lame

          • Solomon_Kano

Ah. Yea, I haven’t bothered to watch much of the gameplay. NetherRealm hasn’t really strayed too far from the MK mold here.

  • SunOatBoatMatadorQuattro

Aquaman… in a fighting game!? And he looks scary and epic!? Talk about contrast.

  • Ben Sylvia

    Giant Enemy Crabs????

  • Sylveria

I wanted the Aqua Man with the mullet and hook-hand.

    • Solomon_Kano

Me too. That was his best look!

  • ToniX

Ok what about putting cole macgrath in the PS3 version of the game netherealm already did that with kratos in Mortal Kombat

    • TheExile285

      Thats a really good idea

    • anthony apduhan

Ok so PS3 will have Cole MacGrath what about the Xbox 360 and WiiU?
Well I have some suggestions… Xbox 360 will have Jackie Estecado from the Darkness while WiiU will have Samus Aran good idea isn’t it?

      • Ixbran

WiiU could have Link appearing from an alternate dimension, or Samus could show up from space

as for the 360, maybe someone generic like master chief or something.

  • Kalis Konig

Nice. This is going to make a lot of DC fans Happy. Also nice to see more then the bat family get reps.

  • Mister_Nep

So…Aquaman huh? Is he gonna be everyone’s punching bag in training mode?

  • Follower_of_Pram

From a certain episode of the Justice League somewhere…Batman: “Careful Aquaman! They’re stronger than you!”

Sorry Aquaman, I just can’t get that little quip out of my head. You do look cool in this though.

    • Mister_Nep

      *wipes blood off face*
      “That remains to be seen.”

It’s from one of the DC movies. It’s “Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths.”

      • Follower_of_Pram

Ah yes, that’s the one. Many thanks for his snappy comeback. ‘^’

  • XiaomuArisu

    Looks like a job for……Aquaman!
    But seriously he looks cool.

  • Oni123

    “It’s a trap” …get it?
