Nintendo Direct To Discuss Upcoming Wii U And 3DS Games [Update]

By Ishaan . February 13, 2013 . 9:00am

Update: Nintendo just announced a Japanese Nintendo Direct presentation as well. It will take place at 11pm Japan time on Feb. 14th. The Japanese presentation will focus on Nintendo 3DS games.

Nintendo of America and Nintendo of Europe will be holding Nintendo Direct presentations tomorrow, the two have announced. The U.S. presentation will cover upcoming Wii U and Nintendo 3DS games, while Europe will focus on 3DS. Here are the timings with links:

U.S Nintendo Direct – 6am PST

EU Nintendo Direct – 2pm GMT

There’s been no mention of whether games that haven’t been revealed or announced for a western release will be discussed, so keep your hopes in check. Additionally, note that Nintendo haven’t announced a Japanese Direct presentation at this time.

    Release dates and localization announcements.

And *maybe* what those guys working on that AAA SE wiiu port are doing.

  • Ethan_Twain

If this is American only, then rather than new announcements we should expect release dates and confirmations of localization for games that already exist. This should be completely in line with Iwata’s stated strategy of bombarding foreign shores with Japanese 3DS content. We should expect some Luigi’s Mansion, we should expect some Animal Crossing, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see mention of Etrian Odyssey since it’s coming out so soon. We should definitely expect a spotlight on Pikmin 3 – I don’t know what else for the Wii U they would be showing off. Most of the Wii U stuff will probably be eShop. Toki Tori 2 is coming soon, Pinball is coming soon. We may see those.

    • Jimmy Dean

Less “we” and more “I” please.

  • XYZ_JolteonZ980

Hopefully more new games like golden sun 3ds and bravery default and Pokemon battle revolution 3ds cardfight vanguard, and chousoku henkei gyrozetter and not release dates, leave those to press releases.

    • puchinri

Where did Golden Sun come from? x’D; This isn’t a JP Direct, remember?

Also, I think Squeenix would announce BD and Gyrozetter, not Ninty.

      • XYZ_JolteonZ980

Nintendo of America cant publish those games or something?

        • puchinri

It’s unlikely that they would, since they’re SE’s titles and SE will be the ones to publish them. Until they specifically state that they’re not bringing them over, Nintendo won’t need to consider publishing them.

Also, it’s still more likely that news like that would come up at E3 and not a ND, and I still get the feeling that SE would have some hand in the announcement (hence E3 vs ND ann.).

You’re also forgetting that we don’t have solid release dates for titles already confirmed to be coming, and NA is not likely to announce new titles without Japan doing so first (going back to your original comment).

    • Junko Enoshima

Bravely Default looks amazing and was huge in Japan, so we definitely have a chance at that. Golden Sun 3DS sounds less likely, though.

  • Tylor Boreas Makimoto

    I hope we see the announcement of Miiverse for the 3DS. They said we would get it before the end of last year, but we didn’t ;~;

  • SirRichard

Probably nothing special at all, but I’m still a bit miffed that the Euro one runs at exactly the same time as my lone Thursday class at uni. Great timing!

  • skyesheart

Mr Iwata, PLEASE announce the release date for Fire Emblem in Europe! I’m dying here!

  • Sonicdarks

    Animal Crossing,anyone ?

  • Slapndabass

    Animal Crossing release date please.

  • neo_firenze

Pikmin 3 release date seems like a safe bet, and maybe Wonderful 101 too. They need some dates too, to fill in the gapingly empty schedule a bit (MH3U is literally the only upcoming WiiU game I care about with a known release date).

  • MrRobbyM

As everyone else is saying, it’s probably just release dates and maybe new games. I feel that there might be new 3DS color announcements though.

    • Solomon_Kano

Better be a green 3DS, if so.

  • lunarwhale

hoping for some dragon quest vii

  • Go2hell66

Well the last nintendo direct was just amazing, doubt they could possibly be hiding anything else

    • Wasn’t the last one JUST Wii U this could have some 3DS surprises.

  • kylehyde

Considering that maybe Iwata is not going to be present, and since he is the only one allowed to drop bombs, I will keep my hype low. Still, I’m going to see it.

Well. Now that I know that is going to be Iwata, and that theres a japanese my hype has grown a bit. But still, I prefer to keep it in low levels

    • Suicunesol

Iwata and Shibata will be hosting Europe’s presentation.

      • kylehyde

Normally he drops the bombs alone. But I hope he makes an exception tomorrow. Still, I really wanted to see him along with Reggie

        • Brimfyre

So let me get this straight… you are saying… Iwata drops bombs when he is alone? Don’t we all?

    • Ulicies

I’ll keep my biggest hype for a Bravely Default localization, and then let anything else be a happy surprise.

  • landlock

hopefully Nintendo will be publishing either or both of Bravely Default/Dragon Quest VII.

    • ElAbuelo69

BOTH please…I would hi5 Iwata’s penis if this becomes true.

    • puchinri

I kind of wonder now actually. . . since they’ve been proactive with DQ, will that extend to other Ninty-console exclusive titles? It’d be interesting to see them help publish/ensure Bravely Default (I feel like they shouldn’t have to and that SQ will be on top of that).

      • Solomon_Kano

I don’t know that it’ll extend to other exclusives in a wider sense, but I think it’s a realistic possibility for Bravely Default with Ninty’s current relationship with Squenix.

Then again, their publishing of the formerly exclusive Razor’s Edge makes that a possibility.

        • puchinri

Yeah. I mean, I don’t expect it, but I wonder about the possibilities now (especially in comparison to before).

          • Solomon_Kano

I think they’ve certainly expanded. With Iwata’s pledge that they’d keep software flowing by helping publishers get their games out in the west, I wouldn’t count anything out.

          • puchinri

True~. I guess if SE says absolutely nothing by Summer, it wouldn’t hurt to just send an e-mail to NoA’s way and inquire about the possibility.

  • Tsurugi

Inazuma Eleven GO Shine/Dark for 3ds in US/EU

    • puchinri

      Is that the new game? Or the collection of the first three games? Because I would really like for the NA to get the first games~. ;u;

      • Tsurugi

It is the new one, and the Inazuma Eleven GO 3DS is way better than the Inazuma Eleven for DS

        • puchinri

Ah, okay. And yeah, that’s why I was hoping we’d see that localized for NA.

  • I was Dragon Quest Monsters. I’ll but a new 3DS just for the game. GIVE ME MY DQM

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

Oh man my Reggie is body for some localization! Hype at max

  • Desukoru

Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney. Inazuma Eleven 3 (Spark/Bomber). Fantasy Life. Time Travellers. Heck, just localise every Level-5 game that hasn’t been localised yet.

  • Guest

I think they will just talk about the upcoming Wii U and 3DS games like Monster Hunter or Lego City might also talk about some release dates for some of the upcoming titles.
I’m not expecting any huge announcements since Nintendo dropped the bomb for the last one.

  • Tails the Foxhound

This is gonna be release dates, which is great mind you, but I wanna hear about third parties on the horizon. I’m hoping for a surprise or two (especially for Wii U) but it’s a very slim hope.

  • Tsurugi

Inazuma Eleven GO Shine/Dark for 3DS in US, please Nintendo bring it!

    • Tonton Ramos

And let Dante Basco voice Tsurugi

  • Settsuo

I went to Katrina yesterday and got my fortune read… I’m feeling pretty lucky!

  • Would be great to have some more footage of… everything that was at the last Direct.

Still hoping for a Bravely Default localization to be announced at one of these things.

    • Niko Sandwich

Joined Disqus just to agree with you here on Bravely Default! Hear hear!

…Also I’ve been lurking here for a while, so I thought I might as well join.

      • Well, always good to have an enthusiastic new voice in the conversation. Now go forth, and contribute!

  • Bravely Default would make my year complete (and Type-0 loc, yes I know, not Nintendo just saying >.>)

    • Solomon_Kano

Honestly, if we get Bravely Default, I will officially erase Type-0’s existence from memory. Much as I want it, BD looks good enough to make me forget all about it.

  • KingGunblader

I don’t see any new games being announced at this thing. And with Rayman gone, what else do Nintendo have to talk about Wii-U wise besides Monster Hunter?

  • Kristina Wright

Lord have mercy on my soul if they don’t announce a release date for Animal Crossing New Leaf.

  • disqus_6jrhSxN3aY

  • Junko Enoshima

Most likely a far, far away dream, but some Mother 3 on the E-shop wouldn’t hurt. Or an Earthbound VC localization.

Yet again, this is a very unlikely dream ;(

  • So, we won’t be getting any new games that have not been announced for Japan yet? Makes sense.

If this is anything like the other Nintendo Direct presentations, this can go both ways: either this turns out to be amazing and OMGWTFBBQBYOB, or it turns out to be boring PR stuff that adds little to what we already know about some expected releases.

    • Göran Isacson

Gonna hold out hope this one will fall under the former cathegory- but it kinda feels like the universe will rectify all the positive karma from the last nintendo direct with a lackluster one this time around.

      • Guess you’re right :P Not that it was lackluster imo, but it simply wasn’t as amazing.

It would be hard for them to follow up with something as amazing anyway so I kinda understand what happened.

  • $29082171

    No Japanse one?

Localizations it is then, Bravely Default pretty please.

  • At least there is ONE thing to look forward to on the crappiest day of the year.

  • JMaster3000

Nintendo Direct To Discuss Upcoming Wii U And 3DS Games > The Nintendo Direct is just for 3DS games and stuff. No Wii U related things tomorrow.

  • Justin Whiteaker

    Gimme new 3DSxl bundles pls

  • $29082171

Looks like there is a JP direct as well, 3DS-focused.

  • All right, you guys can light the hype signal now. Japanese Nintendo Direct happening at the same time as the other two. Iwata just announced it on Twitter.

  • Solomon_Kano

So new Japanese games and Nintendo putting Iwata’s talk about helping publishers bring their games west? That’s what I’m seeing here.

Now, if you’ll excuse me. Ahem.

    • Braaaaaaaaavely ignored by stupid SE.

      • Solomon_Kano

Eh. It’s only been 4 months. Rarely is an RPG announced for localization so soon. That only happens with console FF games. Monolith’s new game, too, but Nintendo definitely wasn’t gonna make the same mistake twice.

If we make it to E3 and they still say nothing, then it’s been ignored. For now, it’s too soon to say one way or the other.

        • I just don’t trust them right now. You understand how I feel, no?

          • Solomon_Kano

Given Type-0, I certainly can. I’ll just say that we shouldn’t give up completely because of what they’ve done prior though. MH fans did as much when Capcom didn’t bring 3rd on PSP, and they assumed that Capcom wouldn’t bring 3G. Well, they announced 3G as 3U with a brand new Wii U version in tow.

In short, there’s hope. They’ve screwed up before, but there’s hope.

  • Rogerrmark

At least Fantasy Life is ”almost” pretty much confirmed already.

  • VeroC11

From the thumbnails of the private video already uploaded on Nintendo’s youtube channel, you can tell they will talk about Animal Crossing
