The Last of Us Delayed To June To Allow For More Polish

Naughty Dog’s upcoming PlayStation 3 game, The Last of Us, has been delayed, the developer announced this week, clarifying that the added development time will allow for a more polished game.

As we entered the final phase of development for The Last of Us, we came to realize just how massive Joel and Ellie’s journey is,” Naughty Dog creative director, Neil Druckmann, wrote on the PlayStation Blog.

“But instead of cutting corners or compromising our vision, we came to the tough decision that the game deserved a few extra weeks to ensure every detail of The Last of Us was up to Naughty Dog’s internal high standards.”

The Last of Us is now slated for release on June 14th in North America and Europe.

  • Naughty Dog gets a thumbs up for this. Nothing wrong with spending a little extra time to shine something up.

  • MoriyaMug

Better a release delay than a later patch.

  • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

Glad they’re delaying for polishing, but I hope, it’s for the single player campaign and not for this “yet-to-be-announced” multiplayer… Clarification plx…

    • Linhua

      … same here, actually.

… i’m getting this specifically FOR the Campaign.

The later the better, can put more money towards an uta no prince sama ittoki otoya figure.

Really hyped for this game and the survival edition artbook. Should be fun as it looks gorgeous.

  • It’s cool, Naughty Dog. Take your time, make sure the game come out very good, and make sure it’s not buggy and prone to crash. Also I got a lot of other game I need to play out.

  • I’m kinda broke right now, so I actually wanted the game to be delayed just a little bit.

  • Good to hear their making d=sure the product is top-quality, but next time couldn’t they just make the initial release date 3-4 months later than planned? This gaming generation has been so delay-crazy…

    • MLSabre

I feel it’s justified; You have one chance in making a good impression. You blow it, sales of a game will never reach it’s projected sales expectation. Patches after release rarely rectifies any of that.

  • A shame, as it was originally coming out on my birthday. No matter though. Take as long as you want, Naughty Dog.

  • Kuro Kairi

delayed for polish? Thats what I like to hear! I can wait if it means the game is getting even better.

  • 60hz

i suspect that “more polish” is marketer speak for “extend gameplay time past 4 hours.”
