I don’t know why I’m not surprise that Laura Bailey is Nemissa. I like Laura but I was kind of hoping for someone else but oh well. It’s good to hear that things are coming along.

  • Marcelo Gouvea

I know a plethora of “the dub sucks” and “Laura Bailey AGAIN oh suck my-” will follow, but….

I think it sounds great. I love how Laura delivered her lines here.

    • You won’t hear that from me. I can listen to Laura Bailey any time. Besides, it just means that she’s good to work with.

      • sav

tara platt is also a good one….she’s around alot too lol.

    • She’s become the female JYB. She’s everywhere. And you know what? I’d love that.

      • Not to disparage JYB, but Laura Bailey has a hell of a lot more range than he does, which I’m sure is a part of why she’s so prolific.

        • It’s true, listen to her in FE:Awakening and you’ll still be able to tell it’s her, but not to the same level as when dealing with JYB.

        • I’m not a fan of the “range = talent” mentality. Does your range of two voices pale to one with 5 voices? Yes. Can you still do great vocal performances? Yes. Does your voice still fit the character of choice? Yes.

          • Did I say Laura Bailey was more talented than Johnny Yong Bosch? (She is, but not just because she has more range.)

          • Nope, it’s just that I’ve been seeing that kind of talk lately and it always amounts to that mentality.

        • Spirit Macardi

Actually Johnny has a pretty wide range, just he’s usually only called upon to do his Lelouch voice. When push comes to shove though, he can be quite impressive with his variety of vocal tones.

          • Heat Guy J. lol

          • Bosch is a perfectly decent voice actor, but I’ve yet to hear him in a role where I didn’t instantly recognize him.

          • Spirit Macardi

Fair enough, though I’d argue that’s like complaining about recognizing an actor in a movie. Just because you can instantly recognize who it is in real life doesn’t mean that whoever it is can’t turn in a solid performance.

          • Alexander Marquis Starkey

If your interested, JYB is doing the voice of one the the characters in the Upcoming Fate/Zero English dub and the character he is voicing is nothing like Lelouch.

    • Barrylocke89

Indeed. I really DO want to see more Voice Actors in Japanese style games, but the old standbys are old standby’s for a reason. Laura Bailey’s Nemissa seems peppy with a little bit of sex appeal added in there. Which is what I would expect from what little I know of her character, especially compared to Hitomi.

    • She’s getting a lot of varied roles recently. It’s making her an enjoyable voice actress to hear in games. She has such a vocal range that many other VAs don’t, but it’s barely tapped into (at least often), so when she does, it’s amazing. Here, she sounds astounding, just like in FE:A.

      • JohnNiles

Crikey, she’s in FE:A? I need to switch to English mode. Though, the game has been bugging out and starts in English mode regardless, forcing me to change the options twice. It’s like it’s trying to tell me something.

        • She’s a major character in FE:A, depending on where you are, you’ll hear her a lot. No matter what though, you’ve already encountered her (if you’re past chapter 1).

    • inb4 jokes about Laura Bailey sucking my-

  • Junko Enoshima

Laura Bailey does a good job as Nemissa. I’m not sure if anyone else would be as good!

EDIT: Holy crap, Liam O’ Brien is the voice actor!

    • Muffum

      Pretty sure that’s Liam O’Brien.

    • JohnNiles

Laura Bailey as Nemissa, oh yeahhhhh!

  • gold163

Has it been confirmed if the game will only feature the English dub for the NA release? I don’t really have a problem with dubs, especially since Atlus delivers at least an acceptable level of quality with the English dub most of the time, but I much prefer Japanese VO. At this point if the Japanese track isn’t confirmed on-cartridge I’m assuming its inclusion isn’t likely.

    • Hraesvelgr

I can say with 99% certainty that it won’t be dual audio.

    • Temuthril

It was confirmed in the official forums. English dub only.

  • Dub sounds alright, but hopefully there’s an option to turn off voice acting, just to preserve that old-school feel. I’m not crazy about Atlus’s recent habit of having absolutely EVERYTHING in their games voice-acted, anyway. At any rate, looks like this will be my handheld game of choice this summer.

    • Ethan_Twain

Even better, a really hardcore grindy JRPG like this will counter balance really well with something like Animal Crossing. I think that’s my plan.

    • Jirin

      Yeah, I agree there.

VA is great, if it’s a fully animated cutscene, moving at full normal conversational speed.

But if the VA is only moving at the speed the text appears on screen and you’re still reading it and pressing through it, the conversation is pausing at every line and only one person is saying one sentence at a time, absolutely nothing is gained by having VA talking along with it. It just sounds awkward.

      • Exactly this. There’s other weird stuff too, like the main menu screens in Catherine being narrated (yes Jamieson Price, I know how to load a game thanks).

  • Also, does the fact that it’s rated M mean we are finally seeing the return of the dick-demons?

    • AkuLord3

…Last time i check Mara shown up before : p

    • SetzerGabbiani

Yes, Mara will be present. People also forget that Arioch also looks like a giant vagina…with teeth.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

    Oh man, sounds Perfect

  • Ladius

Sounds like they did a nice job :)

  • Damn they did a nice job on the voices, so pre-ordering this, and also……….

  • raymk

Sounds great, getting this day 1. I was going to play the patched version but when this was announced for 3DS I knew I had to wait and get this one.

  • Blur Will

Want this so bad ,theme song so beautiful
Too bad i dont like old SMT magi systems

    waiting for SMT4

  • Anxiously waiting for the European release announcement :D

It’s going to happen eventually. Right?

  • l777l

    PAL release please.

    • Ladius

With Etrian Odyssey 4 announced for Europe, I believe Soul Hackers definitely has a chance to be released in the PAL area.

      • In sure we will get it in 1 or 2 years after US. I’m not even joking at all

  • Ethan_Twain

I dunno… I’m in the position of being a new SMT fan so I know nothing about this particular entry. So far neither of the trailers has pitched to me any features or concepts to make me think that it’s gonna be anything special. I mean, there hasn’t been anything bad either… but if I were to ask Atlus “I liked SMT Strange Journey, why should I be interested in this game?” the trailers have answered “Because it has a funky theme song and English voice acting.”

Atlus still has two months to push the game, and I’m still a receptive audience. But so far, no sale. Keep trying guys – I want to be convinced!

    • Shane Guidaboni

If you liked Strange Journey, you should like this because it’s a first person dungeon crawler with a similar battle system. Demon negotiations remain; interesting story and characters; awesome music and a lot more; there’s no reason as a fan of Strange Journey that you wouldn’t enjoy this. As a new SMT fan you probably don’t know that this is a game that NA never received back in ’97-’99 for the Saturn or Playstation. This is a game hardcore SMT fans have eagerly been waiting for for years and it’s finally happening.

  • sav

gotta love the horribly dated battle system.

gotta love this company now….all they care about is rehashing for a quick cash grab from rabid atlus fanboys…an also making plenty of persona 4 ultimate plus editions.

    gotta love craplus these days.

    • Barrylocke89

Gotta love finally getting a chance to play a game that the West never got before.

Gotta love new games like SMT4 and Code of Princess coming in.

Gotta love Atlus these days ;)

    • Jirin

Right, cause Catherine is just a rehash of an old combat system!

    • M’iau M’iaut

Welcome to the site. Please review our rules and avoid name calling and insults in future posts.

  • Hinataharem

Dammit all I’ll hear is Rise when Nemissa talks.

  • Vitonofrio del Rosso

still waiting for eu announcement noe…

    • Ethan_Twain

Oh come on, you JUST got a release date for an under the radar Atlus first person dungeon crawler yesterday!

  • lordroto

To everybody wondering why laura baily is in so much now, Being in Final Fantasy really helps the rep. It pushed Troy Baker into everything too

  • dahuuuundge

Will there be option for duo audio? Not that I have trouble with Atlus quality dubs (They’re fantastic!)

  • Oltheros

More Atlus dub-only shenanigans. More of the same reused English VAs. I am seriously concerned for Persona 5

    • M’iau M’iaut

Broken records will not continue here any more. Take whines like this elsewhere. Warned.

      • Oltheros

So people are free to talk about how much they like the voice acting, but not free to talk about how much they dislike it?

        • M’iau M’iaut

Not when it is the only thing you ever mention on every Atlus thread ever or every Tales thread ever, etc. The point has been made. We’ve even had the discussion about the Persona games before.

          • Oltheros

So it’s a problem with me personally you have? I know I mention it a lot, but it’s only because publishers apparently frequent this news site…and despite possibly seeing what I have to say, never act on what I point out.

I know it’s not that easy for them to give me everything I want, but alas all I have is my voice and my wallet, so here I am.

          • M’iau M’iaut

We ask that over repeated comments of any sort find an end at some point. If you are interested in actually trying to discuss the matter, calling things ‘shenanigans’ will find you nothing but a cold shoulder or no response at all. We have talked at length about how VA work ends up a different contract or why if the funds are only there for one language why that language will almost always be English. At least try to recognize those realities before simply posting.
