Square Enix have released an official benchmark for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn on the PC. The benchmark is available for download here in English, French German and Japanese languages.

In addition to the new benchmark, Square have also released new trailers for the game. A new exploration video and part 1 of a “Tour of Eorzea” video can be viewed below:

Damn, i want this more than i thought i did

    • saxophone15

Yeah these videos and the music makes me want to play sooner.

  • badmoogle

PS3 version looks better than i expected.

  • http://twitter.com/99phoenixdowns 99 Phoenix Downs

This might be a weird question, but…what’s a benchmark?

    • saxophone15

It basically runs the game in a scripted scenario to test how well your computer can handle it. At the end of the benchmark you will get a number score that represents that.

    • http://twitter.com/Vietgeta VietGeta

If I recalled, a benchmark in this situation is basically a tool to show you how well you can run this game on a PC.

    • Bunzi

It’s a test program that runs scenarios exemplary of how taxing a game might be on a computer’s processes. They’re a good way to ensure you can actually play the game in question on your system.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/David-Pierson/1152517641 David Pierson

Even with the lower frame rate, the PS3 version looks incredible. I’ll bet, though, by the time the game gets released, the frame rate will be much higher, if not rock solid.

  • Suicunesol

Anyone want to bet that this’ll be coming to PS4 too? I might even say SE is going to announce it at E3 this year.

    • Tanthalas

I don’t think it’ll be released on the PS4 that soon.

And FFXIV:ARR on the PS4 better not be the PS4 FF that they trolled yesterday!

      • Peeka Chu

I’m thinking that’s exactly what it is. My God, do we really want to wait another 3-5 years (or forever in VS’ case) for a mainline FF? The PC architecture is a developer’s dream for porting from a PC environment. Just bring it out on that. Streaming an online PS3 game seems like it would have unforseen quirks too.

    • Curan_Altea

Hmmm. That’d be nice. I hope the announcement they told us to be excited for will be something will be something better though.

    • http://twitter.com/RalphMacchioFan Yuta Takemoto

I think it will, sorta. Sounds like the PS4 will let you stream PS1-3 games onto your PS4. No reason this shouldn’t be able to stream onto your PS4 as well.

      • http://twitter.com/AnthonyFoster5 Anthony Foster

The latency would be insane. I mean, not only are you streaming video to your PS3 and button presses to the server, but now you’re also having the streaming server connecting to squares servers to connect to other players…Even with a good connection would that be playable?

        • pressstart

Who’s to say that the streaming server for the PS3 games doesn’t have a much better connection to Square’s servers than your own?

          • EnkiduV3

There is still added latency going from system to Sony server to SE server back to Sony server back to system. The input lag from the ping will be noticeable.

      • kardonius

I could see it getting a full native PS4 release aside from streaming the PS3 version. PS4 is basically using PC architecture, so porting it to PS4 shouldn’t be all that difficult, and the game could definitely benefit from the PS4s greater tech, capabilities.

More of my results without all of the fancy text.

    • CirnoLakes

      And one, last test.

    • http://twitter.com/RalphMacchioFan Yuta Takemoto

What both of my tests yielded. I think i’m set ;) Alpha ran great, too!

  • Suicunesol

Well, I got a score of about 1500 or so… medium/low. Game is playable on my machine, but I don’t think I’d want to play it like this. :(

I want to play with the character creator most of all.

    • Draparde

oh man i can’t wait for that character creator >< especially if it has all the new hairstyles and stuff. i actually almost forgot about that one lol

  • Draparde

*excitement!* i really can’t wait for this game after this trailer.

not that i could wait before…but still!

  • Sakurazaki

    It’s…

    Beautiful ;__;

Got pretty good scores for High settings, and only “standard” for Maximum. And you can infer that my PC owned the hell out of Medium.

  • Tanthalas

According to another website, at the press tour it was mentioned that the PS3 is only about 75% optimized yet.

I hope the framerate and the screen tears are gone by release. I can live with the lower resolution on the PS3 until I get a better PC.

    • CirnoLakes

For console fans, one would hope that they port the game to the PlayStation 4. Judging from my Benchmarks, it should play fairly well at 1080p from at least medium settings.

  • http://twitter.com/AnthonyFoster5 Anthony Foster

Maxed settings at 1920×1200, got a score of 7677 “Extremely High”. And I don’t even have that high of specs, most of my parts are at least 2 years old.

    • CirnoLakes

      That’s higher than my score!

What kind of rig do you have?

Sounds like I need to get to replacing my heatsink and overclocking my 2500K proper. Or perhaps it it GPU based. I merely have a 6870. I was thinking of buying an HD 7990. But that would be quite the expensive investment.

  • Peeka Chu

5824 Benchmark score at 1080p with all the bells and whistles except shadows at mid. And my rig is going on a year old now (i7 extreme, 680m, so its good, but its not “bleeding edge” in PC terms :P). VERY impressive performance gains with the new engine. And that benchmark completely reinvigorated my excitement for the game.

  • Locklear93

Not actually planning on playing the game, but I do enjoy pretty benchmarks.

Oh, and the obligatory screenshot I guess.

  • Juan Andrés Valencia

“Fairly high” score on my GTX 460 1GB, AMD Phenom II X4 965 and 8GB RAM DDR3 @1333MHZ using max settings on 1920×1080. Not bad, although I’m getting it on the PS3 just for variety sakes.

  • kardonius

I’m really impressed with how much more optimized the engine is.

There was no 1440×900 resolution, so i ran it with 1280×720 with the settings at custom (same as maximum, except with occlussion culling, lod except for shadows, lod streaming on, AA off,)

1280×720 takes up a good 2/3rds of my screenspace still, and on a 6 year old laptop running 32bit XP, it gave me 2533 score, average fps of 20.

The old FFXIV would be lucky getting 10 fps at medium with Ambient Occlusion on with that laptop.

Medium settings at same res gave score 5212, avg fps: 42

High custom (high setting, with AA off) at 1360×768 gave 3299, avg fps: 27.4

Extremely hyped for this. The game looks better and better with each trailer and update they give us. =^_^=

  • http://s1.zetaboards.com/Espada_of_Alexandria/index/ konpon568

Gonna play this for the FFVI Magitek Armor, the raids in FFIII’s Crystal Tower,a visit to FFVII’s Gold Saucer, and of course, GILGAMESH!!!!!

EDIT: Oh! And for the Baby Behemoths. Really curious about them in this game.

  • Jimmy Lin

The FFXIV: ARR world design is definitely top notch now if not the best judging just from what is shown in the video, hopefully the combat have some depth.

It is not an action MMORPG after all, so I don’t expect people hopping around in combat or dodging hit areas, but depth doesn’t necessarily mean action anyways. Well truthfully other than internal testers I doubt anyone knows what the combat is like in ARR until beta gets underway.

Benchmark score rated: 7481 Extremely High, so I am set to run it, but of course someone with a monster machine will probably leave me in the dust. XD

Thought I’d try it out. :D
