Darksiders And Other THQ Properties May Yet Find New Homes

By Ishaan . February 26, 2013 . 6:30pm

Now that their most-desired properties and studios have been picked up by other videogame companies, THQ are selling off their remaining assets as well, the bankrupt publisher announced in a press release this afternoon.

Six intellectual properties are up for sale: Darksiders, Red Faction, Homeworld, MK, and “Other Owned Software, including Big Beach Sports, Destroy All Humans!, Summoner, and more; and Other Licensed Software, including Marvel Super Hero, Supreme Commander, Worms, and more.”

Initial bids for these properties need to be submitted by April 1st, 2013 and final bids by April 15th. In May, the sales will be presented to the Court for approval.

“THQ Inc. has received more than 100 expressions of interest in purchasing various titles; consequently, a vigorous sale is anticipated,” the company’s statement reads.

If Platinum got Darksiders i’d cry in joy then proceed to throw my wallet at the companies building.

      • Rick R

Platinum would be great but Sony would be better. Who better to make a GoW clone than the people who created the original? I’m also not impressed with rising, it’s a bit broken and has performance issues which really shocked me.

        • Andrew Norris

Then whatever studio Sony throws the property at can go under as soon as Darksiders 3 is released.

        • Armane

No, Platinum would be better. Who better to make a DMC clone than the people who made the original? Cloning a clone (GoW) just isn’t going to work.

          • Rick R

I’m going to go ahead and guess you’ve never played GoW. Aside from being in the same genre their mechanics are nothing alike. Darksiders resembles GoW, it doesn’t resemble DMC. GoW isn’t a clone of DMC. You might as well be saying DMC is Soul Reaver clone if you’re going to be that far off base.

I sure hope your proof isn’t a link where they state they didn’t want to recreate DMC, but just the idea of having open ended combat. That right there says it was built not to be like DMC. It plays like GoW meets Zelda and everyone’s been saying that since it’s inception, it’s true. You’re also going off on a tangent. You need to back up your ridiculous statement of GoW being a DMC clone; not show that Darksiders was built like DMC. Which you showed the opposite of, destroying your own argument.

          • Armane

You seem to be misinterpreting their words. They didn’t want to copy DMC/Bayonetta, but they wanted to copy the feel of the gameplay. “Open ended combat” to use their words. Also, Spencer compared it to DMC, so clearly not everyone has been comparing it to GoW since it’s inception.

You seem to be the one going off course. Who cares if GoW is a DMC clone or not. It’s not relevant to the discussion; Darksiders took inspiration from DMC as that interview shows (as well as previous interviews from DS1), so who better to make a Darksiders? That’s all I’m saying.

I think platinum would do a helluva job to the series. Bayonetta is one of my favorite games ever.

    • Juan Andrés Valencia

Darksiders 3 on the Metal Gear Rising engine would be phenomenal.

  • Ben Sylvia

Huh, wonder who will get Destroy all Humans.
    Miss those games.

  • Draparde

I loved the concept behind red faction, but didint like where they took it.

i am curious as to where these Properties may end up~

  • Solomon_Kano

The IP I want somebody to take is Red Faction. I liked 2, but it went sour after that. Seeing somebody else do a take could be good.

  • You just adore getting my hopes up, don’t you Ishaan? :D

  • Juan Andrés Valencia

I hope Gearbox gets Darksiders :p

  • Cameron Ward

I agree with everyone. Platinum Games should get Darksiders IP and if they could, get Destroy All Humans. I think they could do well with a franchise that is over the top.

  • Nivans

Man if Darksiders gets 0 bids again…

  • Raoni Marques

Someone, any competent company, plz, buy Darksiders. I NEED to play as the remaining horsemen.

  • Oh lord, please don´t let SEGA get their hands on Homeworld…

  • epy

I really hope Platinum gets Darksiders but it’ll probably end in the hands of something like Ubisoft.

    • Sylveria

This.. please this.. go to Platinum Darksiders.. they’ll make you awesome.

  • Happy Gamer

I really really hope Darksiders gets revived I really do. I really had a soft spot for the franchise that didn’t last that long and I always felt the 2nd one was a victim to the THQ situation. The game had SO much more potential but felt rushed as well.

    I hope Platinum picks it
