By Ishaan . February 27, 2013 . 10:50am

Namco Bandai have shared a trailer for Summon Night 5, slated for release this May in Japan. The trailer introduces the game’s main cast of characters and gives a look at both in-game and cutscene footage. Watch it below:

Summon Night 5 takes place in the world in Linbaum, and the heroes are summoners who fight alongside “Cross” partners. The game uses animated 2D portraits during conversations, with blinking eyes and moving mouths, which Namco have dubbed “live 2D”. For battles, the game uses 3D models.

Summon Night 5 will be released on May 16th in Japan for the PSP.

Japan has such better taste than us….. in my opinion. I really wish somebody would localize this but I know that’s not happening. The live 2D looked pretty nice by the way.

The west makes some great games too. But all of my favorite games are Japanese so…..
I’ll probably import it eventually, get Sol Trigger at the same time. I love the “live 2D” style. Wish more games used it.

Game looks so good. I adore these sorts of games, so it’s really too bad that we most likely won’t be getting this game. Might as well import it when it releases. I really want to play this.

    Such a gorgeous looking game.

Fantastic production! I haven’t played any Summon Knight games other than Swordcraft Story on GBA, but I would love to play a *subbed* version of this one.

I really liked the voices in this. I recognized a bunch of them too! Also, the narrator at the end had a really nice voice! XD But voices aside, I think the art, music, and gameplay were great, too!
Oh yeah, and this will release on my b-day! :3 I’m gonna be 16
