Viz To Publish Three Pokémon Manga This Year

By Ishaan . March 3, 2013 . 4:30pm

Viz Media will be debuting three new Pokémon manga this year, from March through August, each one focusing on different aspects and characters of the Pokémon universe.

First up is Pokémon the Movie: Kyurem vs. the Sword of Justice, which will be released on March 5th. This is a companion manga to the most recent Pokémon movie of the same name.

In July, Viz will follow up with graphic novel editions of Pokémon Adventures: Black and White, starring the Black and White trainers travelling through the Unova region to fill out a Pokédex for Professor Juniper.

Finally, August will see the release of Pokémon Adventures: HeartGold and SoulSilver. This will be a two-volume manga with trainers Gold and Silver teaming up to find Lance and Arceus, while Team Rocket begin collecting 16 plates with mysterious powers.

I’ve always wondered what would Pokemon: Devil Survivor be like.

    • Renaldi Saputra

as long as pokemon doesn’t have devilish things, it won’t happen

They are maybe not religious-tacky like the SMT ones, but there are plenty of Pokemons that are either freaky or come over as borderline demonic (Hydreigon, Tyranitar) or angelic (Blissey, Togekiss, Dragonite).

        • Renaldi Saputra

Whut?? I don’t think tyranitar suits as a demonic one, houndoom suits better.. and.. what did u say?? a fat dragon as an angelic one?? lol I laughed.. maybe togekiss suits a little for angelic one indeed but blissey doesn’t at all..
Anw not just angelic and demonic, SMT had the fallen angel things also which I think pokemon doesn’t have at all
Maybe pokemon suits better not for the main SMT series, but for SMT: Devil Children a.k.a. Demi Kids in english version (one of GBA game)

Oh no, manga of the anime which is loosely based on the video game.
I really wish it was the anime of the manga which is based on the video game instead.

    • LexKitteh

Actually, the two manga they speak of that aren’t pictured here are based on the games and not the anime, and are much better! My icon is based on Ruby from that series. :D But yeah, the Keldeo manga doesn’t interest me at all.

    • LynxAmali

the only tv based one here is Kyurem and the sword of justice.

The other two are the Special manga.

What the picture up there said.

seriously, the promo anime for black and white 2 was amazing, i wonder why they dont lean towards that style rather than just make a generic kids show.

      • Renaldi Saputra

pokemon itself is actually kids show.. what do u expect?

        • AuraGuyChris

Except that it has a WHOLE lot of hardcore elements built into it.
As for the current anime, it’s turned into a thirty-minute advertisement and nothing else, sadly…

          • Renaldi Saputra

            what kind of hardcore elements?
the main pokemon itself is just: beating team [insert name], battling other trainers, gym leaders and eventually become champion.. nothing else..
except if they make a story like mystery dungeon without human intervention in that, maybe I can take my words..
even pokemon doesn’t have angel-devil things and plot-twist like in SMT series, which made the SMT become matured series..

I admitted that the B/W 2 advertisements was pretty cool, but it doesn’t make pokemon as a matured series at all

        • Pokahontas McGuigan

pokemon itself is a videogame. the show is based off of the video game version. gen 1 and gen 2 werent as childish a the later iterations. they could easily make a more teen oriented, story heavy anime rather than the crappy fluf they put out now which is too lame even for kids

    • RedShadoww

Pokemon Adventures is based on the games, not the anime. And is infinitely better than the anime. It seriously should not be looked over by any pokemon fan.

    • $29082171

      Based on the games, actually.

      • Neophoton

I think he means he wishes it’s the manga that got an anime adaptation instead of them making a fresh slate.

    • HassanJamal

After so many years, Im still waiting for Pokemon Adventures anime. Its tons better than the Ash pokemon series.

  • Raltrios

I received an email from Viz that Pokemon Adventures: Ruby and Sapphire will finally be getting localized as well.

This pleases me greatly, for I believe RS is the best manga arc so far. They probably didn’t localize it sooner because they thought the whole

    SPOILERS

Norman-trying-to-murder-Ruby-and-vice-versa thing was bad for kids. That, and Steven and Courtney actually dying… but they get revived (ish) so everything’s k.

    • Neophoton

Seriously!? I loved the R/S arc! Though… Not a fan of its ending, but it’s still my favorite part of the Pokemon Special manga.

      • Raltrios

Yeah… feigning memory loss… not cool, Ruby!
I hope they appear again in a later arc to resolve the situation between those two after Emerald.
That’s why we need RS remakes, dammit!

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

    Ash,……..

    • Renaldi Saputra

      yea, that ignorant person..
he should be burned into Ash..

  • thaKingRocka

Yet they refuse to reprint Sanctuary and they have put Slam Dunk on a five-year run in America. Viz consistently boggles the mind. If I were a Pokemon fiction fan, I’d be happy. I am not.
