One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 Has A Very Energetic Opening Movie

Namco Bandai released a demo for One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 in Japan today, and a PS3 owner in Japan captured the game’s opening movie from his demo and shared it via YouTube. Take a look at it below:

 

 

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 will be released for the PS3 and Vita in Japan on March 20th. Namco Bandai will publish the PlayStation 3 version in North America and Europe this Summer.

    Nami not being to defend… what a surprise ¬_¬;
    Would it kill Oda to make her more battle-worthy? How about a few bo-jutsu techniques for crying out loud?

      Well thats not Oda’s fault as it is Namco-Bandai’s. They’re the ones making the game, and unless stated otherwise Oda had no say in the intro.

        Well, I don’t think there’s much he could do about it here, but it is also a bit of a problem in the manga.

          The problem there is that Nami hasn’t had any formal bo staff or martial art training, unlike Luffy, Zoro, or Sanji. Everything for her up til now and for the immediate future has been rather improvised. Before she got her Clima-tact she had some bo skills, but those were amateurish at best. So the best going for her is to continue using her new Weather Sorcery style from mid to long range until she maybe learns some true close combat skills from someone.

            True (although I’d say Luffy and Sanji’s training was less formal for a long time and pretty much free form, unlike Zoro)~. I’m a bit 50/50 about it. It’s rare for anyone in the OP verse to get real training for any fighting style (which is fair and accurate to some extent, in a few cases), but I see that being used as a crutch at times.

            I understand why Nami won’t become a “better fighter” (because that’s kind of one of her roles, like Usopp), but at the same time, she could use more bo skill. I do love all the weather abilities though~. (But it would look so cool to see bo technique combined with that.)

            Luffy’s fighting style is mostly free form, but now it’s been tightened by his 2 years under Rayleigh’s tutelage. And Sanji has trained with his “Black Leg” style under “Red Leg” Zeff for a good portion of his life and prolly picked up some tricks from his stay at New Kama Island. So I’d say they have had some formal training.

            But it would be cool to see Nami mix up some physical strikes with her Weather Sorcery style.

            Edit: I would say the pinnacle of being taught a martial art style can be seen in Jimbe. A master at Fishman Karate, he’s near impossible to beat on a good day. Even if you take him out of water, he’ll create his own from the atmosphere or just smack the water from right out of your own body. Definitely not a crutch being formally trained (through that’s an extreme example).

            I think for Luffy and Sanji though, their formal training really didn’t come until the timeskip, which is what I meant to imply. I think there’s a huge difference in what each did for them as well, which is cool. (And it is notable in how they fight now versus then.)

            That is a good example. Jimbei is awesome as a fighter and a good representation of what actual style and training are. In general, someone being actually trained/practiced at a style versus just being a fighter is rare to me in OP-verse, but I do think some characters could definitely benefit from a good training montage.

            The problem is that… well… aside from a new weapon, what else did she get after 2 years? She didn’t [so far] show new strikes with her staff. While it’s true that she didn’t get any form of training, she still didn’t get any kind of self-training either.

            That’s also a good point and my main problem. It’s not like Rayleigh sat Luffy down and taught him some styles, Luffy still had to progress a lot on his own (which is what you do, especially as a good student). But Nami really hasn’t taught herself anything more (and without the weather aspect, she’d probably be in trouble and I can’t see her pulling anything special).

            She was on an island that only had weather research, storm balls, and old men. She prolly won’t find anything else to train with. If she was on an island with savage beasts, that’d be a complete different story. Plus I doubt her physical prowess would ever get to the point where it’s more useful than anyone else in the crew.

            Her physical prowess could have been focused on her agility. Didn’t she have to dodge lightning bolts due to the wizards’ experiments at some point. While I’m not asking for pure strength, I do ask for speed and agility, which combined with her staff and weather effects, could be downright deadly.

        Maybe, but since Oda is making her the weakest link of crew, Namco capitalizes on that aspect a bit too much. She’s a freaking cat blurglar, so where are the acrobatics with less fooling around with the rod?

          I was really disappointed that she’s not pulling any cool acrobatics or moves. They could make her play like a Sun Wukong style character (and Oda himself could that route among many), but she really has nothing going on technique-wise.

            Where’s the flying cloud XD? I think one of her staff techniques is to create doubles of herself. She could make hail or snow fall down, she could create icicles, the weather effects are endless for her to be used as actual weapons and techniques.

            Also very true. Simply put, a lot of potential is being passed up there.

    It’s still rather disappointing that they don’t use any music from the show, even covers or remixes. This opening would be so much better with something like “We Go” playing over it.

    Ordinarily I’d hope that the NA release date being so many months after Japan would mean they’re actually going to dub this one, but I can’t say I’m going to hold my breath.
