Three More Potential Skullgirls Characters Revealed

By Ishaan . March 9, 2013 . 4:00pm

Skullgirls’ fundraiser is now at over $335,000 in contributions, with 19 days to go until the campaign ends. As previously reported, reaching the $375,000 mark will allow the game’s developer, Lab Zero, to begin work on a new character named Big Band. In the meantime, they’ve revealed three more potential characters, one of which could be added to the game in the future:

  • Spirit Macardi

Why do I imagine Hubrecht being voiced by Chris Sabat and shouting how his fighting style has been in his family for generations? x3

  • Wenzel
    • Oooooo, very nice. She has that Edo style superhero aura to her lol

    • JordyZ

      Really like beatrixs outfit.

    • The Watcher

      female asbel

      • Freud_Hater

        …Holy crap… That’s surprisingly true Oo

  • MrRobbyM

I’d be fine with Regina but Taliesin looks like the most interesting character out of all the revealed characters imo.

  • O_O! Hubrecht is the manly version of Heart from the Arcana Hearts series XD

………….. I just made myself sad picturing her with a JoJo style face and body.

  • TrevHead

lets hope it makes 40k and we get Big Bands story and stage too

  • I really hope at some point they can do all of these, a lot of the designs are super cool. Personally, I’m pulling for Stanley or Minette, but I would really be happy with pretty much any of these.

    • SirTeffy

We can only hope that Lab Zero can get the IP rights back from Autumn Games. The level of fan-funding the DLC has recieved should convince publishers there IS an audience for this series, but Lab Zero had to sign away their IP for a publishing deal…

      • Jake_Was_Here

Autumn Games has already pledged their support for further Skullgirls development if their assets get unfrozen soon enough.

  • Looking forward to playing Arcana Hubrecht 3 sometime soon!

  • Göran Isacson

Ha ha oh man I am loving Heartstrongs design so darn much. A lot of people from that circus in here, though I guess that it kinda makes sense that a circus would be home to a lot of eclectic types that you can fashion some interesting fighting mechanics from.

Also, I do wonder- I kinda feel like donating to this, but I wonder if I should spring for the 30 $ version and get it on Steam as well, or if I should try to be more economic and buy it on PS3 first, then donate a smaller sum. Gotta watch ones wallet after all… but I am not exactly an avid beat-em-up player on the PC, so decisions, decisions…

    • Asura

Beat-em-up? This is a fighting game.

PC version is supposed to be compatible with PS3 for online play. And unless you really really want a PS3, I would just go for the PC (master race). (I say this despite owning a PS3 and having a laptop incapable of gaming.)

      • Göran Isacson

Ha ha I keep getting those two wrong, I love them but I just… I think I was told beat-em-up was a catch all term for both styles when I was like five and it has never gotten unstuck.

Yeah, it’s mainly wondering which platform it would be best on. I don’t have a fightstick or a controllpad for the PC though, and in the end I’m really just mostly concerned for what is the best use of my money.

        • Zarx

To be fair though, lots of people in Europe call fighting games beat em ups, so either way you’re good.

      • Mr. X

Steam PS3 cross play was a 1 time deal with Portal 2. They can’t use it but that means PC version doesn’t have to be in sync with the console version anymore.

  • Solomon_Kano

Taliesin and Beatrix look awesome. I’d totes use Hubrecht too. Can’t go wrong with an Armstrong.

  • raymk

I want them all!, but seeing as how that’s not going to happen I’ll settle for taliesin.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

    Heart’s dad from Arcana Hearts?!

    • Göran Isacson

… You know, he COULD have fallen into a dimensional portal and had to build a new life in the Skullgirls-verse, that IS a possibility…

    • Ni

  • CirnoLakes

Wow, that Taliesin is actually pretty awesome.

    I kind of like her.

    • Zarx

Also that violin design is sick.

      • Barrylocke89

To be fair, Taliesin does have long hair and somewhat of an hourglass figure. Honest mistake, I say.

        • Zarx

Aye, happens to me all the time irl sadly.

          • Dexward

How many guys with long hair and an hourglass body have you met in real life?

          • Zarx

Myself(once again, sadly) and many others, though they’re mostly cosplayers.

          • Sperium3000

Whoa, really? Well, that can be both a curse and a blessing at the right occasions, I’d think.

          • Zarx

Indeed it is, mostly a curse on a normal day.

    • ShawnOtakuSomething

violin is his wife I bet

      • Zarx

        Look closer at his hands.

        • Cellsai

Doesn’t change that the violin could have been his wife at some point ;D He does turn women into instruments after all..

  • SirTeffy

You might want to make a post about the fact the voice actresses have confirmed alternate DLC voices will be added based on funding (for free!)

    So far confirmed:
    250,000 – Republican Double
    350,000 – Mecha-Fortune (with custom pallet)
    450,000 – Salty Sailor Parasoul

    And to be added:
???,??? – DerpWheel (Valley Girl Painwheel)
(These two were offered on last night’s stream and have yet to be added to the goals list)

    • JustThisOne

      Yes! Republican Double! *___*

And Robo Fortune! Beep boop. Finally, she becomes reeeeaaal.

    • Sperium3000

Aw, man, I really want the REAL SOVIET ANNOUNCER!

  • I’m confused, so these dozens of characters are gonna be scrapped save for like 3-4?
Why not a sequel with all these characters?

    • Ben Sylvia

I don’t follow what’s going on with the game much, but from what I understand the characters that don’t get added to the game via this kickstarter are going to be in any sequels they make.

      • Mr_SP

From what I understand, these characters were already intended to be in two Skullgirls sequels. Not sure which is true, but either way, they had no intention of scrapping them, so long as they can get paid.

        • No, you’re right. All the characters revealed and to be revealed are going to be in the sequels, provided they do reach those goals. It’s just that only 3 more (the 3rd character only being chosen by fan vote) will be added to the current title after this is over.

I still will vote for Marie, though.

    • Mr. X

The are revealing the future characters they want to be playable, if we hit the goal for a 3rd character, any 1 character can be added in by fan vote even if they were suppose to show up in Skullgirls 2 or 3. They are bending their plans to get support and as a thank you. Hopefully, they do get the opportunity to make a sequel in the future.

  • Arc†icNinja21

This is a joke, right? April 1st isn’t until next month

  • Kotarou Tennouji

    So close to Big Band…!
Also I lol’d at male Heart, seriously.

  • Pockystix

I’m diggin the sword and shield gal

  • Pope The Rev XXVIII

Seems like they’re only giving PS3 the love, Anything about these coming to 360?

    • Kotarou Tennouji

Pretty sure they will, but they still have to deal with their problem with the rebalance patch for 360. Dunno if Microsoft would give them further troubles for adding the characters they manage to add.

      • Cellsai

The current patch is still in limbo with MS, however if Squigly is finished before that drops then the patch will be included with Squigly, and she won’t be delayed.

  • Nivans

I think they will definitely reach the 400k for the 2nd character stage/story, but doubt they will reach the 600k. Crazy they need over half a million for just 3 characters, some people makes incredibly successful games with even a 10% of that money.

  • Sperium3000

Taliesin kinda reminds me of Dimentio from Super Paper Mario… Which is not a bad thing at all.

  • Kelohmello

Pretty sure Hubrecht is supposed to be a combination of Mr Heart from Hokuto no Ken and Aino Heart from Arcana Heart 3.

  • Pichi

After seeing Hubrecht, I now want a crossover of Skullgirls and Arcana Heart.

  • Shane Guidaboni

I’m really surprised at how much money this game has been able to raise. It’s a pretty obscure fighting game.
