Ron Gilbert, creator of the Monkey Island series of adventure games, and more recently, The Cave, has left Double Fine Productions, which he joined back in 2010, he reveals on his blog.

Despite his departure, Gilbert intends to continue making games. “So many games left to be designed,” he writes in the same blog post.

He continues: “I want to thank all the amazing people at Double Fine for all their hard work on The Cave. It was a true pleasure to work with every one of them over the past two years.  So much fun.  I will miss them all.  And of course to Tim for creating the opportunity to come there and make The Cave.”

Gilbert goes on to mention that’s he currently at work on an iOS side project that he’ll be focusing on over the next few months. “It’s called Scurvy Scallywags in The Voyage to Discover the Ultimate Sea Shanty: A Musical Match-3 Pirate RPG,” he shares.

Gilbert will also be holding a keynote at PAX Australia.
