Fire Emblem: Awakening To See Free Downloadable Maps And Characters

By Ishaan . March 13, 2013 . 8:40am

In addition to paid DLC maps, Nintendo have also been releasing free downloadable content for Fire Emblem: Awakening via the Nintendo 3DS’ SpotPass feature, which allows it to automatically download new content for games while the device is connected to the Internet. This morning, they announced that the game will continue to see free content throughout Spring.

One piece of free SpotPass content that will be available today in North America will be a new map, titled “A Hard Miracle”. This map will follow Chrom as he encounters a mysterious woman and sets off to rescue her with a group of kidnapped villagers.

More SpotPass content will be made available for free over the next few weeks, and will include the following maps:

Ghost of Blade (Mar. 28th) – A tale about a ghost and the “ultimate sacrifice”

Wellspring of Trust (Apr. 11th) – A map full of challenging enemies

The Radiant Hero (Apr. 25th) – Chrom and allies search for a legendary hero

In addition to these free maps, special weapons and additional playable characters will continue to be distributed via SpotPass as well. SpotPass Content in the game can be accessed by going to the Wireless option from the game’s main menu, and checking the Bonus Box for updates.

My sister managed to find a physical copy and send me. It’s next to impossible to find a copy of the game =(

    • ( `Д´)ノ)`ν゜)

Seeing as how there is no word from Nintendo on that issue, it seems that they’re doing a great job at conning people into buying digital copies of the game.

      • revenent hell

When I contacted Nintendo they basically blamed the publishers for this. It was a rather amusing email haha

        • Ephidiel

isn’t Nintendo itself the publisher o__O

          • AnimusVox

Lol yes, so they blamed themselves I guess

  • Arrrgh….still ages til we get Aversa.

    • AnimusVox

I want that ‘Summer of Bonds’
Oh and I love your Gerome avy <3

      • I want Bride dlc, limit breaker dlc, summer of bonds dlc and most importantly the future dlc. Happy with Dread Fighter for now.

        Yesh. Gerome is awesome.

    • Ben Sylvia

Yeah, want her as my wife in my second playthrough so Morgan will get dark gift. :( At least gives me time to get all the other S ranks for my MAvatar.

      • Same reason I want her as well. For now I’m making the ultimate Morgan manakete tank by going KellamxNowi!NahxMU!Morgan.

        • Ben Sylvia

Whats a good skill to pass down to Nah?

Trying to do some things different second time.

          • Swordbreaker or Lifetaker from Nowi. As for the father it depends on who he is. If its Kellam then either Pavise or Aegis. If its Donnel then Aptitude. If its MU then Veteran to accelerate that leveling process. I don’t think Ignis would help Nah’s low magic.

          • Ben Sylvia

Hm… can’t remember the dominant weapon type in the chapter you get her. Swordbreaker could be great early on with her…. Still a ways from that point, have to think on it.

          • You get swordbreaker to counter Wyrmslayers. The weakness of Manaketes and Wyverns.

  • I had to give up and eventually buy the digitl copy due to the whole shipment fiasco. Oddly enough I have no hard copy but 3 Artbooks sitting in a pile…

  • “Wellspring of Trust”… Is that the hot spring map? I hope so, because I’ve been dying to read the character-specific lines and dialogue like on the Gold and EXP maps.

    • benhofb

In Japan the hot springs map was paid DLC as the “Summer of Bonds”. Or maybe that was the spicy beach one. I can’t remember. All I know is that it was “…of Bonds”. The fire emblem wiki has a list of all the DLC.

    • Laith Rem

It isn’t. Wellspring of Trust is the, honest to goodness, best paralogue. The hot spring is paid DLC

  • MrTyrant

This is for recruit a new waifu right? gonna play it right now. Farewell everyone I will return for Aversa! (xD)

  • Hollowkoopa

So from guessing by the name and summary i think in today’s map you get Emmeryn.

    • Ben Sylvia

And her being the next shadow on Avatar’s support list.

  • TruSpindash

After 80 hours of l paying I manged to take the game out of the 3DS so to play EO4, but with these spotpass missions the game is going to suck me back in and steal more hours from me.

    • Brian

E-Shop download yo, Fire Emblem in my 3DS 24/7 is sweet

    • Pockystix

      just passed 100 hours

      on one file

      • Ben Sylvia

I had 115 hours, but then I decided to go to second play through.

    • P 627

LOL 80hrs of grinding. and +70 to grind the fun out of it. too much time spent on a good game. too bad 3ds is always region locked -.-

  • MaskMask

Way overpriced. It’s sad that anyone would buy 3 maps for $6. lol

    • Suicunesol

First of all, this article is about free spotpass content. Not paid DLC.

Second of all, 3 maps is a good 2 hours of play for less than an hour’s worth of pay. For me, as someone who is a FIRE EMBLEM AWAKENING NUTCASE, I will grab whatever content I can get, and as such 6 DOLLARS is a small price to pay.

      • neo_firenze

To be fair, if the main game was $3 per hour of play, you could be looking at a $200+ game. So yeah, for people who equate cost with amount of content, the DLC is maybe not a bargain.

I personally don’t mind the DLC, and I’m happy to pay $6 for a new map pack because I like the additional content. But I’m not really on board with your stated logic.

        • Suicunesol

Yarg, my logic used against me. >< Let's just say that, as a Fire Emblem fan, I will come up with any half-assed logic I can to play more and more and more, regardless of cost~

          • neo_firenze

Hahaha. Now that’s a reason that’s pretty impossible to argue with :)

And yeah, I’m with ya on more Fire Emblem = good thing.

  • Raltrios

I want the Bonds DLC! I don’t know how much more I can take of hearing my waifu harping on about Chrom… I need to hear more post-marriage dialogue between her and MU outside of support tiles, or I’m gonna keep feeling more and more NTR’d.

    • Linhua

… hey hold on… there’s actually post-marriage dialogue between characters in this game…?

… i’m late to the party, i’m sure. Seems to be a theme for me these days. Please bear with me.

      • Raltrios

Very little. You know how dialogue can occur between paired-up units on a sparkling tile that improves their relationship? Well, if you have a married couple stop on those tiles instead it’ll be a randomly chosen conversation that only married couples can access. There are a few for each woman.
Similarly, children can have conversations with their parents in the same way.

And it’s my understanding that in the Bonds DLC maps characters can talk to each other like you’re trying to recruit them. I’m told the dialogue between them changes if they’re married.

        • Suicunesol

I think this applies to the barracks conversations too. My Sully and Virion got paired up in the barracks once and shared a brief, intimate moment.

          • Raltrios

Yes, the same conversations may occur if family members meet in the barracks. It’s fun trying to see each one for every pair.

        • Linhua

… lol… the BONDS DLC sounds like the way you used to communicate with allies in the older Fire Emblems.

… one more technical question for ya… well… more of a favor question if you will.

… i’ve been walking through the game VERY slowly because i’m aware that there are like 26 (or 28?) chapters in the game… and every time I get a new character or characters… i’ll raise their support levels with everyone they are allowed to chat with, but only at the end of the A-Level because I wanna make sure that I have everyone paired up with the most preferred mate before they start popping babies…

… but I DUNNO WHEN THAT IS!

… i’ve been too chicken to check around the net to find out what chapter this Future Arc begins without reading more than I should be.

… can you tell me what is the latest chapter I can be in before it’s too late to marry…?

… hell… are there still gonna be characters popping out of nowhere after people have to marry…?

          • Raltrios

There is only ever one character who’s forced to marry, and that’s Chrom. He’ll marry whichever of his suitors he has the most relationship points with at the end of Chapter 11.
You’ll get his first kid automatically at the end of Chapter 13, and it’s at that point that the other kids become available. But you have to marry their parents first. The child’s paralogue won’t appear until the mother is married, but there’s no time limit on when to do so. You could get them hitched before the Endgame chapter if you want.

So don’t worry about it. Only Chrom gets married automatically for plot reasons. You can take your time with the rest. But be careful with inherited skills.

          • Linhua

… uh oh… you had me goin’ until you mentioned Inherited skills. I forgot all about that.

            … what’s to be careful about…?

… am I in good standing considering all the females have every possible skill (of my interest) from all other classes available to them…?

… how does this work…? … is it the current five skills they’re equipped with when they tie the knot how you choose what skills are inherited…?

.-. S-sorry for all the questions and thank you for all your explanations. I’m about to start Chapter 10 right now actually.

          • Kevin Koh

The last skill on the parent’s skill set will be the one inherited by the children. But you don’t have to worry about anything, just make sure that when you start the Children paralogue, before you start the fight, scroll to the child and see his/her skill sets. See if it matches with what you have in mind. The skills are only inherited ONLY WHEN you enter the paralogue. So you can get married at any point in the game and continue to develop the skills you’d want the child to inherit from the parents. If you want to know more, just go to You’ll find almost everything you’ll need there.

And as stated by someone up top, ONLY Chrom’s marriage cannot be controlled. The rest of the character’s can be done at any point of the game. Chrom only have 4 different mates to choose from though, sadly. Oh, and for Chrom, something else that’s special is that, the daughter will ALWAYS inherit Aether while the son will ALWAYS inherit Rightful King. Only the mother’s skill inheritance can be controlled.

    • fuzzy_hobo

You’ll probably be waiting a few more months at the rate NOA is going. But trust me, it’s worth it…total satisfaction with Cordelia ;).

      • Raltrios

I really hope you’re not joshing me :)

        • fuzzy_hobo

Considering how I’m in the camp that isn’t bothered by Cordelia’s pre-marriage lines even after marriage, I’m not joshing you. Tharja, Virion, and Inigo have similar problems, so it’s not just her. Then again, the Internet is cynical…

I liked the Avatar x Cordelia conversations in the Summer dlc. The whole thing is about 2-3 supports long in text. You see Cordelia’s cuter side and the dialogue ends with Cordelia taking the initiative in furthering their relationship (i.e. kiss).

Also, the Cordelia (when single) x Chrom conversation makes it pretty clear why Chrom x Cordelia would never work out. Basically, Chrom is completely oblivious to Cordelia’s feelings (and his eyes are already on “someone else”) plus Cordelia is like a chicken w/it’s head cut off in front of Chrom. She even acknowledges it would never work and that she has to move on.

But again, this is the Japanese version so they might make slight changes. The localization has already made Cordelia’s dialogue more formal/stiff in English (probably to match the Shakespearean name). In Japanese, Tiamo (Cordelia) is still serious/diligent, but her speaking style is a little more girlish.

          • Raltrios

I’d read a few of her translated Japanese support convos, and I noticed that her attitude was a bit different. Then again, I wouldn’t expect the localization team to include references to the size of her chest.
Still, I’m glad to hear that. I’ll be looking forward to it. I definitely won’t be erasing this save file once I’m finished the story.

  • YoshEE

Why not release some of them twice of week. TT.TT

  • AnimeRemix

“Today’s new map, “A Hard Miracle”, follow Chrom as he encounters a mysterious woman and sets off to rescue her with a group of kidnapped villagers.”

I think it’s safe to say that this is an error on Nintendo part. The Spotpass DLC has always been released on Thursday, along with the other weekly DLC. Anyways, I’ll look forward to playing through it tomorrow and the others when their dates roll on over.

    • I think this is like Sony’s thing where they sometimes say “later today” but it actually means midnight (by which time it’s already Tuesday).

  • Leonard Norwood Jr.

*phew* well that’s awesome news. More maps and characters, more fun. I just had a rough week so this good news will keep me occupied during my breaks on my school work.

  • Ben Sylvia

Wait we’re getting [SPOILER CHARACTER] a day early this week?

Doesn’t matter to me, only just completed the Mila Tree on my second playthrough. :(
