Square Enix have announced a release date for Gyrozetter: Wings of the Albatross, an upcoming RPG for the Nintendo 3DS, featuring vehicles that can transform into mechs. The game will be released in Japan on June 13th.

Gyrozetter already has a game out in arcades. For the arcade version, Square came up with actual transforming cabinets (read more here) that change depending on whether you’re battling as a car or a robot. While the 3DS title will share the same worldview as the Gyrozetter anime, it will be a separate game with its own story.

Gyrozetter: Wings of the Albatross will allow you to drive around and transform between a car and a mech at will, including in fields and dungeons. The game takes place 40 years after the anime series in the year 2053 and uses an “Active Gear Battle” system.

Square have teamed up with a number of car manufacturers like Subaru, Toyota, Nissan, Mazda, Mitsubishi and more for the game. Gyrozetter: Wings of the Albatross will be available for 5,490 yen at retail and 5,000 yen on the eShop.

No, that means Kakeru Todoroki, Eraser-01, Shunsuke, and Touma got all olde, why so far in the future. I wonder if Kong Roader can still unleash Mt. Everest for its Hi-ougi, and Thunderclap Ascension from Libirdo? Hyped to hear impressions.

maybe the anime cast wont really show up much if at all?

  • Completely forgot this game was a thing.

    wot, no Ford or Dodge?

  • I wonder what the Drift and Boost buttons in the car screenshot are hinting at. It would be kind of cool if there was a fleshed out racing element to the game.

    • Maybe the way you traverse the overworld would be in an open-world racing game’s style with plot-dictated area limitations?

      • I doubt the budget for this game is going to allow it to be open-world.

        • Ah, true. Maybe at least you could drive on the routes to different in-game locations?

Now SE just needs to get together with Level 5 and do a crossover with Danball Senki…

  • So, they are basically Japanese Transformers?

TBF isn’t the original transformers from Japanese first? Then became an official product of both US and JPN?

There goes my theory about our MC being totally-not Eraser.
