Magitek Armour Is Coming To Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn

By Ishaan . March 15, 2013 . 10:30am

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is going to have Magitek armour, Square Enix have revealed on the game’s official blog, along with a few tiny teaser images.

While the map and armours above are mockups, they have been approved as final designs by the game’s producer, Naoki Yoshida, so they’re representative of what you’ll see in the final game.

    Final Fantasy IV? :P

  • I’d suggest editing the title there. I don’t think we’re getting another FFIV sequel anytime soon.

    • Pyrotek85

I don’t know, they really seem to like that one lol

  • Potionzmaster

    Looking awesome!

    • FFVI remake no? My kingdom for a FFVI remake for PSVITA.

  • Guest

i think you r missing a X there in the title :P im not trying to offend you

  • i think you´r missing an X there (without offense)

  • Fixed!

  • Sold, lol.

  • komiko12

Magitek Armor!! For me, this image really represented the plot of FF6..

I hope you can use Magitek skills while riding it. Then recreating the scene of 3 Magitek Armors traveling through the snow.

    • Randy Marsh

I hope we can use Magitek skills when riding them. I will Tek Missile everything in site with this baby!

      • komiko12

The sweet part is that you can cast all those spells for free. Now the problem is if we can find a half-esper to use them…

    • Best intro to a FF game, period. I remember that scene. It was both memorable and powerful :’)

      • Eilanzer

        and the sound…oh god…perfect game!

    • shaolinsword

Never mind 3, I want giant guild battles with magitek armour in the snow

  • Nightmesh

Oh, now you have my attention on this game square.

  • Zarx

This might actually sell me on this one. FF6 <3

  • All previous FF XIV news: “Well, I think I should give this one a try”.

Sees Magitek armor: “OMFG Must Buy!!!!”

  • Corey Owens

If I remember correctly, it was said in one of the Letters from the Producers that if Magitek Armor were to make it in, it would only be as a mount.

Don’t get your hopes up for anything combat related.

    Still very awesome looking.

    • The Garlean Empire (One of the main antagonists of the game) is actually Magitek-centric for their civilization, so expect a lot of Magitek enemies and bosses. :)

  • CirnoLakes

Square Enix are absolutely not going to let this game fail under any circumstances.

    • Because they CAN’T XD

Can u imagine? ANOTHER failure at the level of original 14? lol man the company would be the laughing stock (if they’re not already) of the video game world >.<

    • MaskMask

The beta is pretty bad though.

      • Eh don’t know what beta you’re playing. I’m having a blast. And yes, I did play the original version of 14. It was terrible for the first 6 months or so but rocked the final year it was running.

        • Lilith

Nice job breaking NDA guys. I should screenshot this and send it to SE.

          • How is this breaking anything. Don’t be a troll.

          • Elvick

Yes, because the NDA cares if you say generic statements that essentially boil down to “I like it” vs “I hate it”. Good luck reporting it. They won’t care.

          • Lilith

” Beta Testers shall not disclose, publish, distribute, transmit, post, or otherwise make available, directly or indirectly, any Confidential Information regarding specifications of the Beta version, technology, bugs and information available on the Beta Tester forums (including the opinions of yourself and others) to any other person or external sites (including blogs and social media sites).”

          • Elvick

So, whether someone likes a beta is “confidential”?

They said nothing confidential, nothing on bugs, info, tech, nothing. Just that one likes it, the other doesn’t.

If you feel it’s breaking the NDA, spend your time contacting SE about it. And watch them not respond. You’re wasting your time over reacting.

          • Lilith

What part of “opinion” didn’t you understand? It’s clearly a violation.

          • Lilith

Butthurt people downvoting me because they don’t like SE’s rules. Pathetic.

          • Arrei

I’d say it’s more your attitude that’s attracting the downvotes.

I mean, come on, is it really of any consequence whatsoever if someone says they like/hate the beta?

          • Ferrick

well as long as you don’t post gameplay vids or talk about the mechanics, its not breaking the NDA

        • Super excited for A Realm Reborn

        • i know this is really dumb, but i have PC beta code and i cant find where to actually use it. could you help me out? Either i keep getting a “under maintenance thing, or im completely in the wrong place. Hit me up on fb?

          • Lilith

Did you download the client? If so remember that the testing is on weekends.

          • thank you. i see what the problem is. they said somehow my account isnt “verified”.

      • gamerdude

indeed there is little use for brain cells in this game. currently it’s like farmville but more casual.

  • TheExile285

    looks cool

  • Bunzi

Aah, this is cool. It’s even got that slightly more dragon-like design Amano’s concept art used. Took ’em more than a decade, but I’m glad to see that original idea finally put to use!

  • Testsubject909

    1. While yes, I enjoy the idea of Magitek Armors/Armours making a comeback…. I have to say…
    2. I worry they’ll be cheapening the impact of a Magitek Armor. Honestly we only got to see those things on rare occasions in Final Fantasy 6. When we were able to get a hold of them, we were nigh invincible juggernauts which represented well what a Magitek Armor would do in capable hands. The sheer option of method of destroying the enemy with Terra and her high compatibility and skill in the use of a Magitek Armor was just overwhelming. And we only had two occasions to make use of them. Two.

They were memorable because of how empowering they were, they showed just how strong the empire was technologically and how far they had gone in their ability to extract magic from the Espers. To make them into common steeds… Just…

Well, hey. Whatever. I don’t play FF14. If the people who play it likes it, good for them. But I’ll still note, this isn’t really the best way I’d think of Magitek Armors coming back in the world of Final Fantasy… If they should ever come back in the first place.

    After all..
    3. Magitek Armors mainly fits best with the FF6 world. At a stretch, the FF12 world could see it too, but for other worlds well… I’d think they’d need a good story or setting to explain exactly why they exist. But hey. I’m overthinking an easter egg. So take what I’m saying with a grain of salt or two.

    • Ferrick

But if i remember correctly, the enemy faction uses magitek armors during the great war in the Seventh umbral era, so i don’t think its not part of the lore, and its possible that they will bring a “the magitek technology is rediscovered after the destruction of eorzea” kind of thing

      • Testsubject909

I don’t play the online MMO FF. So I don’t know the context. I’m just expressing some worries of mine is all. If they’ve done an adequate job with keeping everything in line, then that’s good.

But there is one worry that I think is harder to tackle considering this is an MMO. That’s how special and badass of an occasion riding Magitek feels like. Again. FF6 had only two instances when you rode Magitek Armors. And in both those occasions, you were an unstoppable beast.

        • Ferrick

and in FF MMOs, you’re an unstoppable ferrari, meaning that you can’t be attacked when riding chocobos/mounts (but some mobs and some epic monsters are capable of hitting you off chocobos)

          • Wesley Kenneth Houpt Mattingly

I think people are reading too much into, it’s called fan service for a reason, and FFVI is beloved by many. I was already planning on trying it since I liked the original 14 after they worked the kinks out of it, this just adds excitement.

          • Ferrick

well i was just saying that magiteks have been in the original FF14 from the get go, and it was used by the enemy faction, and none of us have access to it, the one i remember the most is the boss before Nael Van Darnus, and it was a magitek robot, so its neither an easter egg nor a fan service because its already in the story

          • Wesley Kenneth Houpt Mattingly
          • Ferrick

magitek says hi, and good job on not getting the point i made

          • Wesley Kenneth Houpt Mattingly

Man you are dense. Their adding to be usable by players just because they can is the definition of fan service. Doesn’t matter if they existed, they are only being added because of fan service.

          • Ferrick

original question (testsubject909): 3. Magitek Armors mainly fits best with the FF6 world. At a stretch, the
FF12 world could see it too, but for other worlds well… I’d think
they’d need a good story or setting to explain exactly why they exist.
But hey. I’m overthinking an easter egg. So take what I’m saying with a
            grain of salt or two.

my reply to that question: magitek exist in the lore from the original FF14

in short, i’ve been answering his questions, and you just barge in with your fan service this fan service that. Man you really are dense

          • Wesley Kenneth Houpt Mattingly

It’s an open thread for a reason, no reason to get all butthurt over someone replying to your comment. Perhaps you should go somewhere else if you don’t want people commenting on a thread….

          • Ferrick

            i think you’re lost, if you’re looking for the open thread, its here;

and i’m not getting butthurt, i’m just allergic to idiocy and necromancy of old threads

        • Given the state of 1.0 before the servers went down, there were a lot of extremely hard to acquire items. Hard mode loot from the Primal fights, The Relic weapons (which would be near impossible for certain types of players) and other items kind of imply that similar hard to acquire rewards will carry over in A Realm Reborn. I’d like to imagine the Magitek Armor would be one of those hard to acquire status symbol type of items, maintaining that rarity that goes with them. Just my opinion, though.

    • komiko12

Terra + Magitek Armor = Annihalation.
I think it would be great if we got to use them more in FF6.

  • Game just keeps getting better and better =^_^=

  • Wiccan1109

Can see this being the number one choice for Dragoons when it comes to mounts lol. Probably will be one of the most used mounts alongside Coeurl and Chocobos, knowing the community. Its very cool looking, and im not really a mount person either.

  • Lester Paredes

Holy crap! this game suddenly got interesting! lol Not a jab at the game, just @ MMOs in general, as I have yet to play one that engrosses me.

  • Wake

This is the Final Fantasy game I want. More high fantasy than science fiction. Job classes. A big explorable world. It’s just full of elements of the old school FF worlds. Also, baby behemoths. I just wish this was a single player experience. I miss this world, and the last non-MMO FF game that gave something like this to us was FF9.

  • Bob Stockalockapoulos

I haven’t heard those two words since Final Fantasy VI. It feels like 1999 (when I first played it… yes, I was a late bloomer) all over again.
