A First Look At MIND≒0, Acquire’s New Dungeon Crawler For Vita

By Ishaan . March 20, 2013 . 11:00am

Earlier in the week, Famitsu magazine revealed a new PlayStation Vita dungeon crawler by Class of Heroes developer Acquire, titled MIND≒0. Now, they’ve published an online report with the first screenshots from the game:

As previously reported, MIND≒0 has a battle system that allows you to summon Persona-like MINDs (Mental Inside Nobody Dolls). The game will play across two connected worlds—the regular world and a spirit world. More screenshot and art work can be found in Famitsu.com’s feature.

I guess that one guy was right. Does look like a lot like Persona graphics. If any of you see the picture of the magazine article with the character models, then even more so.

I’m going to go back to the other page and upvote him.

    • It looks like it has the sheep from Catherine, too.

      • Does it have a Mara lookalike?

        • You summon him by vigorously rubbing the Vita back touch.

  • raitouniverse

Seems like Acquire has taken on a new persona

  • imaguni

This game sure is, uh, ‘familiar’ but I’m willing to give it a shot. The Persona concept isn’t new anyway and I still enjoyed it!

  • The similarity with Persona is almost screaming at our faces!

  • So I guess tht the dungeon crawling is in first person? Well it looks like P3/P4 and I love them so yeah, liking Mind≒0. Hope this game get to leave Japan.

  • Tenshiken

A first person dungeon crawler with third person battles? I can deal with that.

    • Raoni Marques

Well, I can deal with that too. I just hate dungeon crawlers with first person battles. It just sucks when you can’t see your character attacking the enemy.

      • ShadowDivz

Yeah, seems kind of (FOR LACK OF A BETTER WORD) lazy. I dunno, i just prefer seeing my characters kick ass. But if the D.C is 1st person and battles are 3rd person, could be good*.

        • Syn

I completely agree, I feel they do that to quicken dev time and such whereas in the past it was done due to the limitation of the systems then, but now eish, its everywhere, even my beloved persona iv is a victim of this, it has entire 3d worlds but ends up having 2d slash demon battles with pulsating pictures :/

          • Raoni Marques

Unchained Blade RexX is a good example of a game that could be really better if it had 3d battles instead. The characters and monsters designs are pretty great, but the character designs are completely wasted since all you see is their portraits

          • ShadowDivz

I find it slightly ruins the game. Not like “don’t buy me” ruin. Just “awww” ruin.

          • Solomon_Kano

“even my beloved persona iv is a victim of this”

Eh? Did you mean SMT IV?

        • Raoni Marques

Lazy seems like a good word to describe dungeon crawlers where you can’t see your character attack. Like you, I also like to see my party do some ass kicking.
As long as it’s 3rd person battles, I’m in.

          • ShadowDivz

I was actually expecting to get massive downvoted. Glad to know others share the opinion.

  • Alex Sargeant

I don’t think the Persona issue is too big a deal. At least I think it’s alright for Acquire to take a -STAND-.

    • MCoelho

My god, here, have a internet cookie, but be careful MY EVIL SPIRIT may try to take it back

    • Ni

Here, get his up vote my good sir.

    • imaguni

Perhaps they were feeling bizarrely adventurous with this project.

    • Guest

      It’s… a STAND!!

    • MyBodyIsReady

      I sense there is a joke I’m not understanding…

Anyway! This game looks neat! I’m officially optimistic

      • MCoelho

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, in part 3 to present, characters uses different Stand. A Stand is the manifestation of an individual’s innate power over the “ripple” (hamon) and represents, to an extent, the individual’s psyche. They are personas from the 90’s, and they are named after the arcana.

        • z_merquise

They are personas from the 90’s, and they are named after the arcana.

Until the author started using songs titles and band names for the Stands after part 3.

          • MCoelho

            Forgot about that :D

          • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

And Persona’s from the 90s, too! haha

      • lol Same here, game doesn’t look too interesting though.

  • Anyone else have a good chuckle at “Mental Inside Nobody Dolls”? It’s kinda hilarious to me. x)

All the more power to a title who rips on a concept if it thinks it can do it better or more uniquely. We’ll see.

    • Testsubject909

We’ve already made fun of it before.

Dolls Inside Conceptual Evocations. Or Dice…

      • Oooo, I like…I think!

    • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

Judgement Uninfected Naked Kind Execute Ranger

    • A worthy competitor of “Beings of Extra Terrestrial origin which is an Adversary of human race”. XD

  • benhofb

The whole Persona-esque premise won’t be bad as long as Aquire handles it well. And besides, this could probably suffice as a persona substitute between now and whenever P5 is released.

  • Vitor Duarte

Who cares if it seems like a Persona rip-off? If it’s good I’ll get it!

  • Tincho Kudos

Looking good, I hope this gets localized. And guys, is not like Persona invented the High-School settings with emo like characters summoning monsters

    • Testsubject909

Emo like character… In what way.

If you mean in terms of personality, the great majority of the cast has a valid reason and center to their turmoil, if you mean in appearances that’s limited to the western part of the world as the eastern part of the world doesn’t pair that appearance to the odd phenomenon that is the Emo…

… or are you going way retro on me and saying emo in the ways of Emotional, as in, the musical genre from way back before I was able to even say my first few words since I was most likely a little infant…

This is just to say. Don’t just blindly use emo. It’s like saying that this is kinda gay. It makes no sense, you’re just helping spread an unnecessary cancer to your own native(?) language and you’re robbing yourself of a larger vocabulary of words so to better express yourself.

      • Tincho Kudos

In terms of personality and to some extent, the looks (especially the MC in P3)
Btw, I’m not bashin persona or anything like that and the second part of my comment was lighthearted, and not to be taken too seriously

  • Shane Guidaboni

I feel like someone came in here to down vote any comment that mentioned this game’s resemblance to Persona, which, let’s face it, is pretty obvious.

    • Luna Kazemaru

I’m still wondering why you all are acknowledging the downvotes.

      • Testsubject909

Because it’s fun to poke at them.

    • imaguni

Between the Personas/Stands and the JoJo-esque sfx, comparisons are inevitable…

      • Testsubject909

To Rival Threads. I know. The concept of those Marionettes is oddly similar too!

  • KiTA

    Two notes:

    1. The title, “MIND≒0”, is read as “Mind Approximately Equal To Zero”. Yay, math!

(This suggests that these non-sentient dolls aren’t as non-sentient as we may be lead to believe early on.)

    2. The criticisms between this and Persona are unfounded. The kids are wearing school uniforms. This would be equivalent to seeing a bunch of American kids fighting monsters in T-shirts and Blue Jeans. We only think it’s iconic of the Persona series due to our point of view as outsiders to that culture.

  • AdachiTohru

Vita is officially the best console to play Persona like :D

  • TheExile285

    Looking forward to this

  • Alexander FromUkraine

I don’t Mind if it’s Persona clone, as long as I’ll be able to Acquire it in English

  • The battle system in the pictures made me think more of Digital Devil Saga than Persona actually.

  • Wow, this looks great! Localization please =)

  • Sylveria

Geeze another first person dungeon crawler? Not that I’m complaining, but we’re certainly getting a lot of them lately.

    • Syn

Yeah, I think its due to the fact that they are cheaper to ndevelop, I for one am not a fan as at this point am pretty accustomed to seeing my character actually get hit or hit something rather than slashes across the screen akin to a time when that was the best the tech could do

  • They just absolutely NEEDED to turn “mind” into an acronym, no matter how convoluted it would sound like, didn’t they?

    • Göran Isacson

Ha ha, I think they did. On the one hand it’s kind of hilarious how far they stretch it, on the other… well. It sounds very, very dumb.

  • DarthSithZero

I hope this and Demon Gaze come to America

  • noctis_nox

Although I don’t like the First person perspective this is a an interesting game and I am glad that the battles are somewhat on a 3rd person perspective.
    Localize this game!!

  • Exkaiser

Dungeon Crawler where one of the main characters is a fist-fighter? I’m in.

I’m a very simple person sometimes.
