DuckTales Remastered By WayForward Coming To HD Consoles

By Ishaan . March 22, 2013 . 10:45am

As Siliconera revealed last week, Capcom are bringing Dungeons & Dragons: Tower of Doom and Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow over Mystara to HD consoles. The publisher officially announced the two projects today at a panel at PAX East that Siliconera attended, along with another project—DuckTales Remastered.

DuckTales Remastered is an HD remake of the 1989 DuckTales for the NES. The game will feature level layouts based on the original, with completely redone visuals and sound. The backgrounds for DuckTales Remastered have been laid out by original artists from the cartoon series.

Also included is a new tutorial level that lets you get familiar with the pogo jump and cane swing in the game, and a McDuck’s Museum mode lets you track your stats and compare your progress on global leaderboards. Meanwhile, a “Scrooge’s Money Bin” mode will let players swim around in coins.

DuckTales Remastered is being developed by WayFoward Technologies. The game will feature original Disney character voice talent, including some from the cartoon TV series, such as the voice of Scrooge McDuck, and its soundtrack is being composed by Jake Kaufman, AKA virt, who is both remixing old tunes and creating new original tracks.

Ducktales Remastered is slated for release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii U this Summer as a downloadable game.

  • Shariest

I will so buy it… Living in the Duck-land called Finland ;)

    • Göran Isacson

Swede here, here to say I’m gonna buy it… TWICE. Because silly national rivalry and all that.

      • @twitter-392922464:disqus You Nordic countries and your national rivalries. :P

      • Shariest

Sweden sucks and so forth…I guess?

        • Göran Isacson

Mmm yes, and Finland is a silly place for silly people and we love Donald Duck much more then you ever will for ever and ever and so on.

          • Shariest

Yeah… You love ducks all you want…
We’ll stay in human – human here :)

On a serious note: This game will be awesome!

          • Göran Isacson

I have to admit, I walked RIGHT into that one I did. I deserve that shot, and admit that we Swedes are filthy duck-loving deviants.

But yes, it does look like it will be fun to play. Only thing I’m kinda worried about is how the 3d screens and the 2D sprites don’t always merge together very well, but that might chance with some more time in development.

          • Shariest

Mmm-m i feel that they took a wrong turn in sprite updating, Scrooge looks plain ugly to my eyes on the screenshots -_-.’

  • TrevHead

Shovel Knight and Duck Tails :D

  • ducktales! yes!

  • Show of hands of everyone who seriously started singing along when the trailer said to.

  • Icedus

I hope virt realizes his reputation in the eyes of The Entire Internet is riding on what he does with the Moon theme.

    • Göran Isacson

Oh man. I do not envy any man that kind of pressure, I don’t.

    • NimbusStev

Have you heard the soundtracks to Mighty Switch Force and Double Dragon Neon? Virt is one of the few modern game composers that I think can actually pull this off!

  • WOW! Not only did they remastered another classic, they even remastered the original theme! And with the original singer, no less! We love you, WayForward!

  • Zonic505

I can’t help but get a Paper Mario vibe from the graphics. In any case, I cannot wait to play this, especially with Wayforward working on this.

  • SetzerGabbiani
  • Romangelo

HOLY COW!! I played these game a lot when I was a little kid.

  • Aristides

Fucking Awesome… Capcom just announced GOTY. Now announce it for Vita already! XD

  • I sure anyone not around the age of 30 is probably going… “WTF, I don’t get it?”

    • brian

I’m 21, and I am pretty excited for this.
Partially because WayForward seems to have an excellent history, and because so many people have nostalgia for this game.

  • Göran Isacson

Ha ha, oh Tim Schafer. I do hope they actually took that quote from him directly and that they didn’t just make it up.

What I also hope for- a little bit more work in the graphics department. I dunno, I just think the colorful sprites REALLY don’t gel with the pretty darn sparse 3D-rendered backgrounds. It just feels… off, you know? I really think that DDD-DANGER WATCH BEHIND I mean that I hope they GRAB ON TO SOME DUCKTALES god dammit.

Okay I’ll have to listen to the theme then I can think of valid criticism. But yes, kinda incongruCKTALES, WOOO-OOH!

    • Testsubject909

Yeah, don’t worry, I felt something slightly off in the graphics and I’m sure when the excitement abates, more people will be breaking down what they’ve seen to make longer term judgment. I’m also curious if the walking speed is roughly the same as the original or if it was slowed down, it might be due to the graphics that it appears slightly slower to me. But… Yeah, excited as all hell.

Personally though. Right now. I just want to hear their version of The Moon.

      • Göran Isacson

Mmm, I think it’s mostly the sharp difference between sprites and backgrounds that jars me. Original had sprites for everything so of course everything gelled much more, but here it’s… eh. Maybe the full game will “feel” better.

Still, if they give us a new kick ass version of the moon, most will be forgiven.

  • Dungeons and Dragons and THIS! Capcom, I think I love you again — not all is forgiving, but… I love you :’D

  • Jessica Barron

    • Testsubject909

      I say guv’nor.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

All my money. Literally all my muneyyy.

    • Scrooge McDuck will definitely love that.

  • Wow, that means WayForward is working on this + Mighty Switch Force 2 and Shantae.

  • CirnoLakes

  • Testsubject909

First of all, I’ll quell the joy I have to say a few things that might not be received well.

As much as I like how the new graphics are… There’s just something naturally charming of the, as the term is used, retro version. It could be nostalgia, but the simplicity works well with the design to make something very appealing and without overwhelming you in terms of colors and content, which I feel helps to make it last longer as a classic. This isn’t anything negative to the new graphics, they look great, it’s just my own personal opinion on the graphics that just popped in my head when I first saw the trailer.

Second… I hope that they give us a teaser of the Moon…

Because that’s where my curiosity is piqued.

I want to hear what sort of epic remake they’ll do of it.
    Speaking of, here’s two remakes:

Now excuse me, I’m off to listen to these repeatedly.

  • maggosh

    Don’t change the Moon theme.

No seriously, Capcom. DON’T CHANGE THE MOON THEME.

    • AuraGuyChris

I’m pretty sure Capcom is only publishing it, and WayForward is in charge of the rest.
WayForward always has the best soundtracks.

  • scratchbach

    Soooo. Cooool!

  • DurableTomb

Can I get a Gizmoduck cameo please?

    • “Blathering blatherskite!”

    • Göran Isacson

He appeared in the original, I’m pretty sure he’ll turn up here.

  • Take my money and put it in the Money Bin for this game, Unca Scrooge~!

    Yet, another sweet childhood returns.

  • Phil

    Love it :)

  • Warboss Aohd

    Life iz Like a Hurricane.

  • David García Abril

    HOLY S****, YEES!!!!

My inner 7-year-old is crying out of sheer joy!

Capcom, would it be possible to include the localized versions of the Opening theme song too?

I grew up with the Latin American Spanish version. If you’d include that, that’d be awesome.

  • WyattEpp

Waaaaaaaait. Wait. Woah, wait. Everyone, just stop and think about this for a sec: What if Capcom is TESTING WayForward with something innocuous? If they do well, will WF actually get to make a Megaman game? How sweet would that be? I’m looking forward to what this relationship brings.

    • Göran Isacson

Don’t even bring that possibility up man, don’t you even go seeding the possibility in my mind. I can’t cope with having that hope and losing, I just couldn’t cope.

  • Mister_Nep

You can do anything to the game, but mess with the moon theme. Seriously, any change and/or addition is ok with me, but that.

  • I hope they include the NES version (thats all I really want)

  • Happy Gamer

    Holy crap!!!!
I used to play the crap out of these games, especially the Gameboy version as a kid. Back then it’s surprising how well franchise games were so well designed (Ninja turtles etc). Konami, capcom etc. for the win during 90s
