Nobunaga’s Ambition: Iron Triangle Strategically Joins PS2 Classics

By Ishaan . March 25, 2013 . 11:30am

Another game joins the list of PlayStation 2 Classics on PSN this week—Nobunaga’s Ambition: Iron Triangle. This is the twelfth game in the series and was ported to the PS2 and Wii years after its PC release.

Why the “Iron Triangle” title? From the description: “Players must embrace technology, govern wisely and shrewdly, and prepare a near-invincible military force for war on land and at sea. Only with the mastery of these three elements, the ‘Iron Triangle,’ will the nation be united under one sword and will Nobunaga’s dream be realized.”

Is this one of the handful games where Oda Nobunaga is not portrayed as Evil Nobunaga, which Capcom regularly does?

    • Yeah Koei’s Nobunaga is seen as more of a magnificent bastard than a total monster.

      • KnifeAndFork

I think even Koei’s president touched upon this in an interview with Arino of GameCenter CX

    • OverlordZetta

Koei’s one of the better companies when it comes to the good Oda warlord. I can’t go near Basara because of how badly they did the poor guy there.

      • Brion Valkerion

Well the electric swords, burning spears, holy fists, mecha Hondas, ect in Basara does not really surprise anyone when they made Nobunaga demonic considering what the rest of the franchise is. Not that it was to be taken as anything other than an action series anyway.

    • Spirit Macardi

To be fair, even history paints him as sort of a colossal jerk. Though admittedly no more so than any other warlords at the time.

    • Anime has a similar issue where they portray Oda Nobunaga as an attractive woman…

  • OverlordZetta

But nothing on that Vita game, eh? Shame.

Is this coming out on the European PSN?

  • Curse you Nobunaga and your dastardly yet magnificent mustache!

    • Riseabovethesky

Yet, he is no match for Samanosuke the Onimusha!

      • KuchikiSentou

Nah, he actually is; Nobunaga wanted to die by Samanosuke’s hand.

  • KnifeAndFork

    Such a noble presence…He looks so European…yet still Asian….

  • JohnNiles

I struggled with this one and only finished some of the regional campaigns. I’m terrible with RTS, so once I fell behind, it was all over. :/

Sure wouldn’t mind a new Nobunaga game though.

  • KuchikiSentou

My favourite legendary leader; tied with Gaddafi.

This game is well worth purchasing, (one of the best games of all time IMO) although I already have the PS2 version, and Nobunaga’s Ambition 13 on the Vita.

Since it’s similar to NA13, you could use it to help understand the mechanics and menus in that game, since unlike this entry, NA13 is not in English. (Koei, are you listening?)
