Ninja Gaiden spin-off YAIBA: Ninja Gaiden Z is set in Ukraine, comcept’s Keiji Inafune and Team Ninja’s Yosuke Hayashi revealed in a developer diary video shared today. The location, Inafune shared, was chosen based on the idea of a zombie outbreak.

“A zombie outbreak has to start somewhere,” Inafune says. “When we were thinking of where to set it, we wanted something that worked with the idea of using zombies as weapons. We wanted some place we weren’t familiar with and we decided on Ukraine.”

Hayashi mentions that the idea to set the game in Ukraine came from the game’s development team, Spark Unlimited. However, Inafune adds: “Well, it starts in Ukraine. We don’t know where it ends.”

Finally! Our own homegrown zombie outbreak! lol
    Can’t wait

  • That’s a pretty interesting location to start the game out in, I have a few friends that would be thrilled about that lil tidbit of info whether they are avid gamers or not.

  • ok, but don’t forget Kasumi

It’s so funny because I live in Russia) F**k Ukraine for stealing our gas!

That is really cool! I’ve always said we need more games based on unique settings instead of treading the same familiar ground. How about a game based on the history of Australia? Or set in modern day Iceland? Something different!

Huh. Wonder if they literally just spun a globe and pointed at some nation and decided that’s where we’re taking this adventure, because that felt… kinda random? Also, hooray for Ukraine, you guys get to have your civilization ruined by zombies and ninja-zombies :D <b

Also, nice how they didn't actually say anything concrete about the cyborg arm. Way to dodge the questions. :D <b

I’d be nervous sitting across from Inafune, I’ve seen him fire a death ray from his mouth.

I’m very curious about this one. It’s rare there’s a “zombie” game in a genre I’m interested in.
