Ragnarok Odyssey Ace Is An Upgraded Release For PlayStation 3 And Vita

By Ishaan . April 2, 2013 . 3:35pm

Ragnarok Odyssey is getting an updated version on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita, sort of like Capcom’s Monster Hunter games do with their “G” versions. Ragnarok Odyssey Ace is in development for the two systems, according to this week’s Famitsu magazine.

The game is a refined version of Ragnarok Odyssey, and will contain all the DLC from the original game, as well as an extra episode after the ending.

Ragnarok Odyssey Ace is slated for release on July 11th in Japan.

Update: Whoops, typo. Release date edited.

Woah, this came out of nowhere. I wonder if I should still buy the original Ragnarok Odyssey though…

  • http://fr.twitch.tv/Nhatalya Aleksandrina

Awesome! Ragnarok Online was actually my most favorite MMO ever, so I’m glad to have the possibility of having a MH-like game inspired by it. Like the Vita version, I’m really hoping it’ll come overseas though, so I can enjoy this game with friends. :3

  • Crevox

Cool, but… *looks at copy he already owns…*

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/playstationunity DXVII

Buying it a second time. :D

    • neo_firenze

I hear you. I really like Ragnarok Odyssey, one of my favorite Vita games so far. But I dunno that I’d want to play it again just for an extra episode. Now, make that extra episode available to me as DLC for a reasonable price and I’ll gladly buy it.

That being said, I totally understand having an all-in-one version for people new to the game or for those who want it on PS3. I just don’t know that it’s justified to re-buy on Vita if you’ve already experienced the original Vita game.

That and, well… Soul Sacrifice and MH3U weren’t around yet when the original RO released. Now they are, and MH4 is on the way (should be out in Japan before RO Ace). A lot more competitive market than it was when RO launched with very little in the way of quality competition on the Vita/3DS.

  • DesmaX

Hope the PS3 version is localized

  • Draparde

Ooo, i wonder what other new stuff it will have.

though i don’t expect anything like new weapons (would love to see Odyssey versions of the other classes in RO).

  • Nitraion

Cool PS3 version finally i can try this game

  • zed grim

bring it to north america please.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/playstationunity DXVII

Oh shit! Buy Buy Buy Buy Buy GO XSEED! DO IT! DO IT!

  • http://altsune.com/ Ovada Bey

I’ll take an excuse to hop in this world again :3

  • harmonyworld

I’m playing the vita game right now~
If this comes out, I might get it~

  • http://twitter.com/Vietgeta VietGeta

    Oh me oh my.

  • Visa Vang

I really don’t need anymore stage-based action game. While it’s kinda cool in the beginning, it gets boring after awhile. I really need an open world RPG but I guess with things rushing out that won’t happen.

    • http://www.youtube.com/Lyonharvestmoonfan Eduardo Rocha

      Let’s hope for a Tales of Innocence/Hearts R locallization!

  • DanijoEX

    Count me in.

  • ZEROthefirst

Odyssey was my hold over for Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and God Eater 2 so I’ll pass on getting it again.

  • Pockystix

throw in a spellsword class, then I’m all over this o 3o

  • Spirit Macardi

I’d certainly get the PS3 version. Couldn’t play the original since I don’t have a Vita.

  • fds_nextdart

Uh…I’m not sure I like this. Getting revisions of games always seemed like a shameless way to milk money out of people. One extra chapter isn’t enough to make me want to buy / replay RO~.

  • benhofb

Damn. Was the original on vita really that good? I heard from some people that it was “too generic”…?

    • AJ

It’s one of those “this game is generic, but awesome” type games.

It sounds like a negative, but I actually love these kinds of games – the equivalent of your favorite restaurant. Exactly what you want, no surprises and tasty.

    • neo_firenze

      It really is good.

Not entirely original, it’s basically the Monster Hunter formula (the biggest distinguishing gameplay feature is the prominence of air-dashing). However, the execution is top notch and really has a nice flow. To me it’s a lot easier to get into than most in the genre, including MH itself.

It does have a bit of a unique aspect in the bright graphics and heavy use of color that really stand out on the gorgeous Vita OLED screen. Feels very “blue skies”, to use the frequently cited Sega descriptor, as opposed to the drab/serious vibe from many MonHun-alikes.

      • benhofb

I played the demo around launch of the original and thought the use of color was beautiful. I have never truly sat down to play MonHun, but I might as well pick this (or the re-release) up after I’m done with Soul Sacrifice.

  • The Watcher

That’s cool. Not paying more than $40,00 though.

  • SpecDotSign

I never finished the first one on Vita. It got kind of boring after the chapter 6 or 7 boss I can’t remember. It’s fun playing with people online, but without voice chat it feels like you’re playing with smart ai characters. The text chat helps, but it’s not the same.

  • tubers

Put the original Ragnarok Online 2nd Job Knight armor and I’ll seriously buy it.. nostalgiaaaaaa

  • http://www.youtube.com/Lyonharvestmoonfan Eduardo Rocha

I’m glad I didn’t bought Ragnarok Odyssey last time I went to Gamestop, shall get this instead :3

    • http://simplephilistine.wordpress.com/ Arla

That’s assuming Ace gets localized and I think that’s a big assumption.

  • Solomon_Kano

I’m doubtful this will see our shores, so I’ll still pick up the original — which I’ve been putting off for ages.

  • Xerain

Can you import your save file?

  • dragoon_slayer12

Eh…. Hopefully they make the extras a dlc for the original. As much as I love RO, I’m not rebuying it for one extra episode)/chapter

  • gamefreak86

Was heavily considering grabbing this for awhile. I will at one point unless this comes out here or a price.drop on the original along with the dlc.

  • Prinny Dood

Well they said it s sort of like monster hunter maybe gameplay mechanics probably little more faster and monsters more vicious, so ill probably buy it again

  • PRGamerCub

so it just has all the dlc …. which is free …. plus a new stage …. ok…. lol

  • Strid

For me Ragnarok Odyssey felt like it had little quality effort behind it and more like something I’d ordered off Deal Extreme. With Monster Hunter 3U on the scene, I can never see myself touching this game again. Even in my MH deprived state I was still able to recognize Ragnarok Odyssey as a terrible game. Also, God Eater 2.

  • Go2hell66

A whole game for an extra episode? I dunno…

Cool to see it on ps3 though

  • http://www.staticshin.com/ Akshat Jiwan Sharma

I knew it.I bet the same will happen with soul sacrifice and touikoden. So I will wait for an enhanced version.

  • Learii

i always want this game on ps3 bu is did omg omg loczated this XSEED come on come on

  • Bojan Njegomir

Fuck yes! Waited a long time to play someting new from Game Arts, happy it’s on PS3! I just hope it comes to Europe!
