By Ishaan . April 19, 2013 . 5:09am

Tango Gameworks’ first game, The Evil Within, created by former Resident Evil director and producer Shinji Mikami, has been revealed via IGN. Bethesda and Tango have shared a two-minute teaser trailer for the game—originally known as “Project Zwei”—and you can watch it at this link.

“We’re incredibly proud to announce The Evil Within,” said Mikami. “My team and I are committed to creating an exciting new franchise, providing fans the perfect blend of horror and action.”

The Evil Within is in development for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, as well as next-gen consoles, and is scheduled for release in 2014. You can visit the game’s website here.

The first half of the trailer was ok, the second half was more like ridiculous.

Well, we’ll see then. Mikami hasn’t worked on many horror games since his last RE, right?

    • CirnoTheStrongest

For me the first half was “yeeesh…not ANOTHER SAW clone…”, and then the second half happened and my faith was restored in this actually being a good horror game :)

    • DemonShadowX

The last horror game he actually worked on was RE4….. Shadows of the Damned doesn’t really count as a horror game to me.

      • eilegz

i dont see RE4 as a horror game neither…. and the looks like silent hill in this game wont help… oh well

  • Wouldn’t mind another Vanquish type game

    • Happy Gamer

maybe u can slide under the monsters!

      • ………………………Thk for the imagery I just had. WHHYYYYYYYY

      • XD

  • Dagobert

Current and next gen… So pretty much a shit ton of games are being ported over to next gen systems.

  • methedemon .

looks scary but I would have like at least some in-game pictures not just live action trailer

    • CirnoTheStrongest

Hopefully we’ll see some actual in-game stuff soon. This is definitely promising

  • Go2hell66

that was an awesome trailer, kind of wish this was a movie instead of a game…

you know if this game wasn’t made by bethesda we might have actually had something here

    • It’s;…not made by bethesda

      • Go2hell66

on second look you are right, who the heck is tango works?
and what does bethesda have to do with this?

        • Tango Gameworks is Shinji Mikami’s studio. They’re owned by ZeniMax, the same company that owns Bethesda (who are publishing this game).

          • Go2hell66

            thx for the info

        • CirnoTheStrongest

          They’re funding this project

    • DemonShadowX

Well the game is just being published by Bestheda actual development is done by Shinji’s own studio, Tango Gameworks. Though both Bestheda and Tango are both owned by Zenimax…..

      • Go2hell66

ah well my interest has been piqued again because if this played anything like fallout i would have cried

  • CirnoTheStrongest

Please make combat the least important (non-existent would be preferable) piece of this game’s makeup! Make us fear walking forward, never let those in the dark be a force we can deal with, only a force we can hide from, a force we can run from, and a force that we can die from.

If you must put combat in, make it horribly difficult to use, and only a last resort sort of thing. I want to be scared when something pops up, not thinking about what’s the best way to kill it off.

    • Happy Gamer

combat is fine I think as well, when it’s still “survival.” When you become rambo and blow ish up it goes from survival horror —-> slaughter of horror

BTW this trailer looks scary as hell!

      • CirnoTheStrongest

Yeah, I just want combat to not be an easy button out of being afraid.

Fatal Frame handled the balance between combat and survival horror wonderfully I’d say. So, it can be done, it just gets done wrong so much nowadays.

    • $36598391

Horror is great but, it sounds like you are looking for something similar to the old Clock Tower games

      • CirnoTheStrongest

Possibly? When I think of true survival horror, I always think of Siren for the PS2. Nothing dies. Later on you can delay shibito, but you never really feel ‘safe’ except in a few of the stages.

    • Luna Kazemaru

i’m sorry i’m going to have to say no to that. I’m all for difficult enemies but no.

    • JustThisOne

I can see what you mean, but I think making combat horribly difficult to use is never good. You should never have to gimp the controls of the player in order to establish fear. That’s just bad design. Instead, the player should be put in situations where it makes the most sense to run and not fight instead.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

Finally a decent horror to come to modern consoles!!!

Shinji Mikami + Bethesda. Holy fff… You just can’t beat that pairing to carry on this idea.

mon dieu, for a horror project from master Mikami this was not what I was expecting. The aesthetics of the trailer has one too many parallels with the vulgar cinematic styling of western horror.

Reminds me of one of those pathetic Silent Hill games made in the west.

In any regard, Mikami has certainly earned his benefit of the doubt. He has done good by me so far as I am sure he will continue to. Unless being bought by a western conglomerate has contaminated the purity of his style.

    • Matenshi

Yeah, it’s not like Resident Evil was based on Western horror films or anything!

  • l777l

It being in being development for so many consoles makes me wary. New IPs are more likely of high quality when they start as console exclusives. This dispersion of focus is problematic. However, I still have considerable hope for this game. Perhaps the fate of RE 6 strengthened their resolve to make it more of a classic/true survival horror title.

    • DemonShadowX

Well while the game is still in early development I think, the game has been in the planning stages for sometime…. And Shinji hasn’t been involved with the RE series since RE4.

  • ParrotProphet

I heard that this was supposed to be Mikami’s last game. That depresses me.

    • DemonShadowX

He stated that this was to be the last game he would direct, so he may still be involved in future games yet.

    • Go2hell66

guess we’ll never play a good RE ever again

      • Solomon_Kano

Even if this wasn’t his last game as director, you expected him to work on RE again? For Capcom?

  • eilegz

hopefully it wont die like dead space… survival horror its a dead genre and as much as people want more horror those games its not selling and its in decadence, hopefully im wrong and this game with the last of us sell a lot

    • CirnoTheStrongest

Survival horror is dead cause everyone forgot how to make survival horror and hopped on the “Action Horror” bandwagon. Not because people stopped buying it.

      • eilegz

I disagree looking at the sales we see that re5 and re6 sold a lot but look at silent hill or dead space.

    • Luna Kazemaru

dead space steam dropped because of EA poor handling of it 1 and 2 where fine but how they handed 3 (pay2win) killed it.

  • Anyone read the title with Resident Evil voice?
Looks awesome. Hope they’ll release in-game or gameplay trailer at E3.

  • The evil has taken residence it seems.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

If they can make the game like the live action here on the enemies and atmosphere, i can believe that this game is going to be one of the best survival horror here.^_^

  • This looks creepy and cool already =)

  • badmoogle

Soon in a theater near you.

  • Solomon_Kano

I really don’t care for what survival horror games I’ve played thus far, but that trailer really had my interest piqued. I promised myself I’d give this a look regardless of the genre since it was Mikami, but hey! The man may actually make me buy a survival horror game.

That trailer was deliciously creepy, the logo’s font reminds me of a cross between The Last of Us and The Evil Dead, and I’m loving the image at the website too. Tango Gameworks, you have my attention.

  • Charmchar

I’m calling it right now, your the one who did all these evil experiments on these people and one day they all escape, wanting revenge. Soon the main character discovers the wrong he has caused and finds himself.

(;¬_¬) I just got myself excited for The Evil Within! I can’t wait to play this at 3 Am with the lights turned off and volume set to high. Bring it on game try to scare me :3.

    • JustThisOne

I think “The Evil Within” or “Project Zwei” seem to foreshadow a plot twist where it was all you in the end. :3 Just shooting in the dark, folks.

  • anarchy_panty

I am a thousand different kinds of stoked for this.

  • Solomon_Kano

Also: The Evil Within is practically synonymous with Resident Evil, like The Last Story was to FF. Guess Mikami and Sakaguchi think on similar wavelengths lol.

  • shuyai

well it has women with long black hair, macho enemy, blood and long finger nail and now just hope it doesnt have guns and guns and it be perfect.

    • Solomon_Kano

      It has guns.

  • doubleO7

Wow, thanks for that cool trailer Mikami. Its not like I needed to sleep tonight or anything…

  • SirRichard

Hopefully it’ll be a proper horror title, there’s a rather large gap in AAA gaming for a horror title to fill, occasional Silent Hill aside. The trailer was promising, and if Mikami’s keeping a firm hand on the gameplay then all should be well.

  • I have complete and total faith that my lord and saviour Shinji Mikami will once again create a masterpiece.

  • Unlimax

Shinji Mikami .. You just made my day ~

  • Looks like this game has a square head?
