i hope this comes to the west

    • Takuya

its not a matter of hope but a matter of when . Atlus been soo faithful to their fan so far. we’ll probably get this sometime spring next year

    • $36487238

Same here :) And at least, this remake includes the Classic mode so the hardcore gamers still get to play without any pre-set characters.

Given how the 3DS has been blossoming here as of late, I’d bet this is coming.

Not too soon I hope; I still have to get EO4 under my belt. The amount of time I’ve sunk into it is huge…and my wallet can’t take much more right now.

  • PinkKat

Ive loved this series, custom characters will be so exciting! Cannot wait till it comes stateside eventually

  • Sergio Briceño

Counting. This is the 18th time I’ve seen a heroine wake up from a stasis pod in either anime or videogames in 10 years.

    • biskmater

just 18? I thought there was way more…

      • Sergio Briceño

I guess I had more time to play video games and watch anime when I was younger. But you are probably right.

  • riceisnice

    OMG MADHOUSE! I’m gonna faint!

I hope this is the start of something great for Etrian Odyssey.

  • XypherCode

    Hype over 9000!

  • Wafflenaut

As someone who never got around to playing the first Etrian Odyssey, this game seems like the ultimate package. I won’t lie, I’m feeling mighty smug knowing I’ll get to experience the first game’s setting in this new enhanced form for the first time.

    • Raltrios

      Likewise.

    • http://www.fogalchemist.com/ caleb1993

I cannot agree more, this makes me feel better about not ordering the EO1 reprint over Amazon.

  • Clifford Michael

Now this is an Etrian Odyssey I would eagerly await.

    • CirnoLakes

Implying they aren’t all worth eagerly awaiting.

      • Ethan_Twain

Implying that they aren’t all the kind of game Clifford Michael would eagerly await. Which is totally reasonable – narrative light anime dungeon crawling is not for everyone.

        • M’iau M’iaut

Yup. It is quite utterly and totally amazing how one little letter – “I” – can change an idea from ‘the world needs to share my opinion’ to ‘world, this is my opinion’.

          • http://twitter.com/ValeFalkren Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Large concepts always come in small words Miau.

          • Neophoton

            My sentiments exactly.

      • Clifford Michael

It is as Yesshua stated. If I’m going to dungeon crawl and grind, I want a story to go along with it. I get overwhelmed easily by too much customization/party selections, and it take the fun out of the game for me.

  • Eric

I’m so stoked for this game! The music at about 1:33 was really sweet! Etrian Odyssey’s soundtrack always stood out to me! I really love the composer :)

  • cirE

Now this is an Etrian Odyssey I’d buy.

The other games were good in the gameplay department, but I can’t bring myself to dungeon crawl and grind just for the sake of dungeon crawling and grinding. I’m much more motivated to play though a game when it’s got a story,

    • Amine Hsu Nekuchan

They had stories. They just lacked character driven drama.

      • http://www.fogalchemist.com/ caleb1993

And while that is fine for some people, not everyone has to agree with it. I think that’s why this game is being made the way it is. The gameplay for the EO games is strong, but there are many people who want a character driven story to go with it.

I myself just enjoy RPGs of all sorts so I’m excited for any new ones that catch my interest.

        • Amine Hsu Nekuchan

I personally could do without it in many cases, There are of course many games with excellent character and dialogue, enough to carry the entire game. But many times it feels like the same generic characters with the same issues and it can make a game with a novel or interesting story feel a lot more generic and boring.

Thus far with this game, I don’t get the feeling the characters are particularly original/creative and while for the most part, they don’t seem terrible, they seem likeable enough but very generic and predictable. It seems pretty obvious where the drama will come from and how the various character will reaction. If this is the game that’s supposed to sell me on the fact that EO can do character driven drama I… well, I feel it’s playing it too safe. I feel like it would have been more interesting to see characters who are more totally EO-ish, with that kinda quirk charm… but instead they seem character you would see in any JRPG. The Stoic-ish male MC, the kind fish-out of water leading lady/designated love interest, the noble with a heart of gold (I’m suspecting she will be tsundere as well), the super competent older member, the buttmonkey. Of course, yes, I haven’t played the game yet, it isn’t out, maybe they could surprise me but it’s just so… It feel so safe, I mean the lack of a sadistic Dark Hunter PC feels like such a missed opportunity. It feels like there was a lot of ways you could have played upon the classes and world of the game to have created a much more eccentric and distinctly EO-ish cast.

Bleh, I feel like I keep repeating myself. WHO KNOWS, I love Atlus and maybe something amazing will be pulled out of the hat but I’m not going to say Atlus can do no wrong and I’m kinda worried about this. I doubt it will be terrible but I just have this gut feeling it won’t be particularly good.

Bleh, anyways, that’s just my personally opinions on the matter.

  • PeroPero

I need this. I NEED THIS.

  • Kelohmello

I can’t believe they took a game I already played and made me hype for it like it’s 100% new. Goddammit I want this game.

  • TedsterX

Well, as much as I hate my job I’m glad I haven’t quit yet.
Looks like I’ll be working some extra hours this summer to get this and a Japanese 3DS.

How many save slots does EO4 have? I remember that EO1-3 only have one save slot, and since this game have two different mode; classic and story mode, I hope they will make more than one save slots….

    • DiosFancifulRomp

One only, sadly. I hear that buying it on the eshop allows you to stow saves on your computer via SD card, but I can’t confirm that since I have a physical copy. I’d think that if there’s two modes, there would be two saves, but who knows.

  • Neophoton

Gauging some interest in this EO installment. I haven’t been too big on the series, but I might give it another shot.

  • AndreasStalin

Now this looks so amazingly good, I have to get through number three and four in this year so my body will be ready for this.

  • Hound

I’ve always felt Etrian Odyssey was bursting in personality. 3 and 4 especially added to it, especially with the events where a character in your party is chosen to do something or receive the brunt of your actions.

Millenium Maiden looks very natural, and I feel like I know
the NPCs on an intimate level from the previous games. It’s like reading a book then getting a copy that’s full of full color pictures. It’s very lovely.
