Katamari Damacy Rolls Onto PS3 As A PS2 Classic This Week

By Ishaan . April 28, 2013 . 7:20pm

The original Katamari Damacy is being released in North America as a PlayStation 2 Classic on PlayStation 3 this week.

As always, the game will be available on Tuesday, when the PlayStation Store is updated. Here’s the summary provided by Sony:

Ever wonder what it would be like to roll around and collect everything you touched in one massive heap? Well that’s exactly the premise of Namco’s strange action game Katamari Damacy. In it, players assume the role of the Prince of the Cosmos as he undertakes a quest to right the wrongs of his father who accidentally knocked the stars out of the sky. The only way to fix it is to roll around the world and collect as many items as possible in one gigantic clump. Both a single player story mode and two-player battle feature are included for the romp, and gamers will be able to accumulate hundreds of different items of various shapes and sizes.

I already played this game way too much, haha.

Though really Katamari Damacy is a great game, it needs no introduction.

the summary is the Nobi Nobi boy advert on the bottom, he is a prince!

  • Kaitsu

Good ol Sony. Keeping summaries in a tl;dr format.

    • Zero_Destiny

Judging from this summary it is a game about Sharing, Tweeting, and Google’s +1. I’m mostly impressed because I don’t think some of these things existed back when this game was made. :O

Has anyone else on siliconera played Katamari Hack?
I found it through google, and IT IS BRILLIANT.
    Check that shit out.
    edit: only works on chrome.

    • imaguni

It works on Firefox too… It says so on the website and I use it myself.

It’s hard playing any other Katamari after you play Katamari Forever. The difficulty curve is so huge, every game before it feels like child’s play.

What it takes to get a 90 score on any other is the same it takes to at least PASS something on Forever.

No kidding, I could only get 10 points a lot of times…

    • JustThisOne

Katamari games are the only kind of game where I don’t mind it being a cakewalk though. I frequently find myself just chillin’ on Eternal mode, humming along to the music.

      • Yeah this was a huge stress reliever back in the day. It can get hard in the specific events like the Cow stage.
Also good luck collecting every item.

What a happy and charming series. You’re just a cute little guy who rolls things up, from candies and buttons to cats… and people… and then you burn them all to create new stars! Mwahahahaha!

Any word on a European release?

    • Armane

If they couldn’t get it to run on European PS2s, I doubt they’ll get it to run on European PS3s.

  • Kitestwinblades

Aw, I was hoping it was We Love Katamari. I actually thought the original Katamari Damacy was already on PSN.

This is still a MUST PLAY if anyone hasn’t tried it it out :3

  • Solomon_Kano

This has reminded me that I’ve only briefly played this series. Might be time to fix that…

  • ddh819

am i missing anything if i played katamari forever but never the ps2 original?

  • brian

I’m playing Sengoku Basara recently, and this got made me realize we need a Katamari Basara game.
Its insanity meshes a lot better with Basara than Musou.

already bought a copy of this game 5 years ago and beat it very quickly.
