Run Your Own Videogame Studio In Publisher Dream

By Ishaan . April 29, 2013 . 10:20am

Publisher Dream, the Nintendo DSiWare game where you run a videogame development studio, is slated for release in Europe this week and in the U.S. the next. Here’s a trailer for the game, courtesy of developer Circle Entertainment, with details below it:

In a discussion with Siliconera back in December, Circle Entertainment’s CEO, Chris Chau, described Publisher Dream as a game that expresses both how fun and stressful game development can be. You’ll have to manage your studio’s financial resources, meet deadlines,  keep an eye on your staff’s stress levels, and gradually expand your studio over a period of time.

You can read more about Publisher Dream and all that it involves in our previous report of the game.

Strongly reminded of Kairosoft’s Game Dev Story.

    • Tincho Kudos

Strongly recommend Game Dev Story too. It’s a very solid game

      • Shane Guidaboni

I just tried out the demo on my phone. Really solid.

Agreed! Bought it awhile ago and still play it between other games. I’ve also played the Oh! Edo one which is fun~

I though the same, I don’t know what to think about that.

        Great minds think alike maybe?

    • Nightmesh

      XD They look almost identical.

      • http://vindictushots.tumblr.com/ Okuni-chan

Haha Yes, the more I look at it the more it does.

GDS is the original. They also released it a good 10 years ago and then ported it to the iOS where it finally got the love and recognition it deserved.

      • Tincho Kudos

Yup, but as far as I know, the original games (on PC) were not translated to english, only the mobile ports are translated.
Anyway, while every game in Kairosoft are similar, they are all good and I recommend all of them :P

  • Elemiel

Play a video game about making video games!

    • Tails the Foxhound

      Yo dawg…

  • biskmater

I am suddenly reminded of Eroge! except I don’t think there is quite so much sex involved in the actual making of eroges.

It’s a conspiracy, Welcome to the nhk

  • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

For those with the gusto to back up their claims, this would be the closest that some people could get to prove that “I could run <insert name of game company here> better than those I’d idiots!”

Though, I’d be up for the challenge (if I had that cash laying around) instead of just playing a sim game.

  • neo_firenze

I don’t have a lot of respect for a blatant rip-off of Game Dev Story. Please, if you have access to an iOS or Android device, give Kairosoft’s classic a try first.

    • Dyne

it does look a bit too close to Game Dev Story for my liking but, it does look like it add some of it own things as well. We got to the point where I think we run low on new game ideas any way. But let see if it plays better then Game Dev Story or not.

    • Ferofax

I wonder how you’d react to Game Dev Tycoon then, from Greenheart Games.

I would say the same as he did.

“Game Dev Stroy” is amazing but lacks in some things (not including the graphics) …
If this game have more than that in every thing I think it’ll be very Good

Of course it will lack so depth ine the gameplay since it only cost 3$ My favorite is Dungeon village because they added more depth to it than usual. I wonder what kind of game they will make if they had more money.

  • Shane Guidaboni

Wasn’t there a game like this, but for running a manga studio? Or am I making things up?

    • xzeldax3

You are probably thinking of the game based off of the Bakuman anime.

      • Shane Guidaboni

Ahhh, yes! That’s what it was. I wonder if that game was any good.

        • Ferofax

IIRC, it’s like a Visual Novel on the DS, where one part of the game is managing the studio and the other is drawing the panels on the manga itself.

          • Tails the Foxhound

That sounds awesome, too bad I can’t read Japanese…

  • TheExile285

Well, I know what the first eshop game I’m buying is

  • TobeGrendizer92

This concept reminds me of the Dreamcast game Segagaga, released at the end of the system’s life. Unfortunately, it was Japan-only. Anyone else heard of it?

  • http://s1.zetaboards.com/Espada_of_Alexandria/index/ konpon568

Ah, so glad I wasn’t the only one who thought of Kairosoft’s games.

    • http://ahmadmdev.yolasite.com/ AhmadMDev

yeah.. Kairosoft’s “Game Dev Story” …
the Instant I saw this title the game came to my mind
