Capcom Projects Resident Evil Port Will Sell As Much As New Lost Planet

Monster Hunter 4 is a major release for Capcom this year, as the company seeks to improve sales and earnings. Slated for release in Japan this Summer, Capcom expect sales of 2.8 million from Monster Hunter 4 by March 31st, 2014.

For reference, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate has sold 1.9 million copies as of March 31st, 2013. Meanwhile, Monster Hunter Portable 3rd is at 4.7 million sold. 2.8 million by the end of March is most certainly achievable for the new game.

Resident Evil: Revelations on consoles and Lost Planet 3 are part of Capcom’s plans, too, the publisher’s latest financial report indicates. Both games are expected to see sales of 1.3 million each, worldwide, by the end of March 2014. Interesting that Capcom expect a port of a Nintendo 3DS game to sell as much as a brand new Lost Planet title.

Finally, Capcom also point to Ace Attorney 5 and Sengoku Basara 4 as major titles for the Japanese market. Ace Attorney 5 is planned for worldwide release, but Capcom haven’t provided sales forecasts for either it or Sengoku Basara.

Make a NEW!! Megaman game then you’ll make that money for Wiiu,PS3 any system besides xbox. I just can’t see megaman on xbox. No wrong to xbox fans

    • I love Mega, I really do. But please could people just stop randomly slapping him on every single capcom-related thread when he’s not relevant to the discussion at all?
It’s extremely silly and gives the blue bombers fans a horrible image.

        This! just…THIS thank you sir.

    • Jesus Christ, where do you clowns turn up from? Fair warning to anyone reading this—we’ve been banning without any questions asked for this kind of behaviour of late.

And yes, please take the advice of the person below as well.

I aint givin up on the Blue Bomber yet. Capcom’s just waiting til they got all their ducks in a row.

  • That seems like a realistic forecast for Monster Hunter 4, for a change.

    • Oddly enough, Capcom always undershoot with their Monster Hunter forecasts and overshoot with everything else. MH4 will probably do atleast 3.5 million by March.

      • Oh, I wasn’t aware of that. That’s pretty weird…I’d think they’d know by now how profitable the series is.
Just curious but how are exactly these forecasts calculated? I mean, are there multiple forecasts evaluated from different marketting divisions then weighted upon or is it just a single division handling all the work? If this sounds incredibly silly I’ve still not had my cup of coffee, I’m sorry haha.

        • I’m not quite sure myself, since every company has a different way of calculating forecasts, and it usually involves analysts in addition to their own data of the market.

Actually a little on the low side. I think it should be able to clear 3 millions without trouble. It will probably still sell less than MHP3 though.

I wonder if Capcom made this forecast thinking that the 3DS userbase is not high enough yet (and that not all PSP owners are going to be swayed into buying a 3DS by MH4), or if they think the series is not quite in its prime anymore.

Man, I love lost planet to death and I feel like that projection is delusional as hell.

    • Justin Perry

I only played the first game, thought it was underrated and very good.

    • Luna Kazemaru

2 sold about 1mil so we will have to see

  • gamefreak86

Revelations will achieve that easily. It will be available on all platforms so its highly likely. Lost Planet on the other hand, not so sure. It’s a low number but its just not that appealing to most people. We will see.

    • SiliconNooB

I’d say Lost Planet would be extremely lucky to sell as much as DmC – hell, even 800k is probably fancifully optimistic for that game.

  • Brion Valkerion

Can see MH4 killing it, probably will sell well throughout the year til Pokemon comes out. RE:R has a decent chance to sell well too if they can do some better promotion for it, or at least tell people how its different from that hot mess RE6. LP3, honestly don’t know anyone even remotely excited or interested in that title, proably why Capcom has been so quiet about it.

  • Kevin Schwarz

CAPCOM never learns to entertain me, sadly not with their games. I wish that was the case…

  • Asura

Stop projecting Capcom. Really, just stop it. You’re bloody terrible at it. Go hire a third party or something.

  • Strid

Well, at least Capcom still has jokes… right?

  • The majority of the money Capcom will get out of Lost Planet 3 will be acquired by suing Spark Unlimited for breach of contract.

This is generally what happens when Spark Unlimited is involved. Why the hell both Capcom and Tecmo had them work on anything should utterly baffle anyone who knows anything about the company.

For those who are not aware: Spark Unlimited is a particularly ill-fated development house that has managed to be sued by both EA and Activision for basically being wildly incompetent in every way. I think that Codemasters might have considered suing them but didn’t actually have a decent basis for it, despite the fact that Turning Point: Fall of Liberty and Legendary, the games they made for CM, were roughly as popular as leprosy.
