"Father Of PlayStation" Becomes Marvelous AQL’s External Director

By Ishaan . May 9, 2013 . 12:30pm

Ken Kutaragi, former chairman and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, is becoming Marvelous AQL’s External Director, according to a Nikkei report. Marvelous AQL is the developer behind Soul Sacrifice and also publishes Harvest Moon, Rune Factory, Fate/Extra, and Senran Kagura titles.

Nikkei say that Kutaragi’s knowledge of the games industry will help Marvelous AQL to develop their business both in Japan as overseas markets. The news comes following Marvelous AQL’s announcement that their foreign subsidiary, Xseed, has acquired Atlus Online and plan to expand their online and mobile games operations.

Kutaragi will assume his position as External Director at the end of June.

Well, unexpected, to say the least. But, yeah, I’ll hope for the best, he does have a lot of experience on the market

  • Cloud_ST

I wish him luck in all his endeavors, as the creator of my favorite console I can’t help but feel a lot of respect and gratitude towards him.

  • GH56734

Does that means Nintendo will have to deal with a Sony CEO after all these years? An amusing idea.
    Good luck for him.

Ugh, It would suck, Because Nintendo devices won’t get anything from Marvelous then

  • Tom

This sounds really nice. A video game industry veteran at a great-great company. I hope only good will come out of this, especially the “..to develop their business both in Japan as overseas markets.” part.

  • TimeMaster

Kutaragi confirmed for supporting Senran Kagura.

But seriously, cheers for him and I hope he will do great things at Marvelous AQL.

Like the planets alining on doomsday, everything is lining up perfectly.
      Soon enough…

But seriously, alot of changes have been happening around SK(companies involved with them anyway), and i can’t help but feel a localization coming.

Then again, i am optimistic when it comes to boobs–uh, life.

Crap, No Marvelous and Xseed games for Nintendo?
    No Senran Kagura Burst?

    • uh where were you when Senran Kagura Burst was already announced for PS Vita??

      • Anonymous

Burst? Vita? Perhaps you mean 3DS, Shinovi(Which is a Vita game) Never was announced, And Xseed didn’t say they will absolutely localize Burst, They are thinking about it, And i did read about what an External Director do, Apparently he won’t affect localization

        • Well whatever, but this doesn’t mean all of Marvelous AQL’s games will end up on PS and never on Nintendo console.
