Nintendo 3DS Gets New Metallic Red Colour In Japan Next Month

By Ishaan . May 14, 2013 . 7:05pm

Japan is getting a new Nintendo 3DS colour next month—Metallic Red. The new colour will be released on June 13th for 15,000 yen and will come with a 4GB SD card.

Despite the introduction of the 3DS XL, it looks like Nintendo intend to continue pushing the regular 3DS model as well. Prior to Metallic Red, Nintendo also released Light Blue and Gloss Pink models back in March.

How different is it from the other red?
It looks the same to me…

    • Brion Valkerion

the other one wasn’t XL was it? Have not been keeping up on all the colors.

      • AnimusVox

No, there was a flame red or whatever for the smaller 3DS and the XL just has a straight up solid red color.

  • DanijoEX

Um…wait. Didn’t Japan already had the Flame/Crimson Red one?

    Unless I’m missing somethin’ here…

    • It’s a metallic red. I would imagine the difference is easier to spot IRL, but look up the Flare Red. It’s a different shade of red.

      • DanijoEX

Yeah, I do see a bit of difference now. Though I have to admit it had me confused there for moment.

Hmm. Could this be the same one we got in the states that was bundled with Super Mario 3D Land? Difference between that one and the normal Flame Red was that the entire system was one shade of red opposed to the whole 3 layers look. So…

  • riceisnice

The color alone could blind me. Pink or normal red is sort of easier to look at.

I’ve been wanting to upgrade my Jpn 3DS to an XL.. but I like how sturdy the original 3DS is despite the smaller screen.. my US XL’s back panel always squeaks when I hold the system and press it.. also the sound of the original 3DS is much louder too w/o the headphones.. I really want a bigger screen to play Phoenix Wright and other games though, eyesight not good now.. I would want the Char red system though :)

  • SilentMC

This is a pleasant suprise, considering how Nintendo pretty much threw all focus to the XL despite the XL not meant to be a replacement to the smaller 3DS consoles

  • Haseyo

I still want that orange one that was shown at E3 awhile back. Or was it TGS. One of the two.

    • Detrimont

no, it was at E3, there was also a purple one, actually, i think it was half purple, half orange, and it looked awesome

      • Solomon_Kano

No, they were separate. That was from the 3DS’ first E3. There was orange, purple, and I wanna say green.

  • Ricardo C

I thought they weren’t making the original model anymore, did they reconsider or something? Might have read something wrong… hmmm…

    • Solomon_Kano

There was never anything about them dropping the plain 3DS. What you may be thinking of is the production of the original colors being ended (aqua blue).

      • Ricardo C

Ah! There we go! When they announced that I was under the impression that they discontinued the original model. Thanks for clarifying that for me bro :)

        • Solomon_Kano

          No prob.

  • sakusakusakura_nyo

The XL is so much better though.

  • Neophoton

Eh, I like my flame red 3DS more… and white for my Japanese one. Much easier on the eyes.
