In addition to the new trailer and screenshots revealed earlier today, The Pokémon Company have also revealed the map of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y’s Kalos region, along with other artwork from the new games. Take a look at these illustrations below.

  • Shadowman

I like that Pokedex so advance!

    • AuraGuyChris

      Apple is at it.

      • Shadowman

Yeah it does look like an iPad.

        • Ferofax

So do we smell a lawsuit? I mean it’s got rounded corners and all. That’s ground for a multi-billion lawsuit, isn’t it?

          • Shadowman

Naw that ain’t no lawsuit it slides up and closes down, let’s see the iPad do that.

          • Ferofax

But rounded corners won them the lawsuit with Samsung. :/

          • Shadowman

Where did you heard that at, and even if that was true it wouldn’t make no sense.

          • Ferofax

Nothing in that lawsuit made sense, but Apple won it anyway.

    • Sardorim

Don’t worry. Ash in the Anime will find someway to ruin the New Pokedex in some way, no doubt.

Ash – “Hey Pokedex, what’s that?!”

      Pokedex – “….That is a Pidgey it is a-.”

Ash – “Sounds awesome, let’s catch it!”

Pikachu – Pikapikapi…(Siiigh. He’s been like this ever since Misty dumped him ages ago)

      • Shadowman

I know, I know he already know the Pokemon like the back of his hands but he trying to keep a good data on it like in the video games, we know that Pokemon but were trying to complete this Pokedex.

  • http://wiredjungle.wordpress.com/ DrakosAmatras

Somebody turn that Gogoat riding into a Metal biker imagery. You know you want to, Internet; don’t be shy.

    • JustThisOne

I get more of a cavalry feel from gogoat though. He’s even got the little fabric thingy.

      • http://wiredjungle.wordpress.com/ DrakosAmatras

That’s certainly one way to look at it, yes. It’s just that the image of a motorbike with a goat-skull figurehead hits so close to Gogoat to ignore, especially when it’s supposed to be ridden.

        • JustThisOne

If he evolves into something more skeletal with flames bursting out of his eyes…

          • http://wiredjungle.wordpress.com/ DrakosAmatras

…Or at least an “eco-friendly” version of it with leaves and vines instead of flames.

          • IsaacGravity

If we’re going that route we may as well give him a head-banging rock song about how hardcore riding him is.

          • LynxAmali

            Goast-Rider?
            Sort of want.

  • PhilliesFlyers89

The map looks great. I didn’t like the B&W gen because of how linier and streamlined the region was. This looks more like Kanto and Sinnoh style.

    Also, that Dex looks sweet.

  • Minos

I still don’t get the French decision.

Why should I want the default option at the beginning of the fight to be “Run”?

    • PanjoNanjo

So… beacuse the art direction of the new Region is based on France that will be the first option?

If that was the case why didn’t Black/White 1/2, Since they were based around New York/America, Have cheeseburger as the first option?

      • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

Actually, the first option was “Fight”. Because Americans love their gory shooters etc. etc.

        • ToshiChan

I was going more with we’ll put a boot in your ass as our catch phrase, courtesy of the red, white, and blue… but that makes sense too.

      • Minos

I think “Hotdog” is more appropriate for New York.

    • Bur

Someone hasn’t read a lot of French history.

      • Minos

Somebody doesn’t have sense of humor.

    • ToshiChan

      Still sounds better than “Surrender”.

      • Isaac Velez

Surrender is actually a pretty good song. I agree with running, though.

    • Asura

I see Americans are still resentful of the French because they couldn’t win their independence without them.

Nationalism is bad and you should feel bad.

      • Minos

Just because I speak a lame idiom like English doesn’t mean I am from USA.

Generalization is bad and you should feel bad. And please, stop calling USA “America”.

      • Raltrios

I also request that you not call the USA ‘America.’ Us Canadians don’t appreciate receiving insults intended for our southern brothers.

      • M’iau M’iaut

No more resentful than modern French are about well they might be speaking German without US! :P

Then again these words were indeed spoken by an American — just not General Pershing.

        http://www.iancfriedman.com/?p=1188

  • Zenthos

The cities seem to be more lively and interactive. I could spend hours on end running around without feeling bored.

    • Suicunesol

A little too empty, in my opinion. Needs more people. Maybe some cars.

      • puchinri

Shouldn’t there be cars and vespa? I know it’s not Italy, but just sayin, it would fit the scenes/mood~.

      • PanjoNanjo

In the newest trailer there are cars

  • Keima88

Why do I get a French like feeling from the screenshots? Hmm I gues because of the map, tower and baquette.

    • Ehren Rivers

The region is definitely based on France. Not only the things in the screenshots above, but the region is in the shape of an irregular star (the same way France supposedly looks on the globaly map) and the splitting-up of the Pokedex regions (Coastal, Central, Mountain) have colored icons that mimic the color/placment of the French flag.

      It’s quite interesting.

      • PhilliesFlyers89

Seriously, the 3 regions inside the region idea sounds awesome!

      • Keima88

I already noticed that the region map looks similar to the map of France, but you mentioning the colours is a good find indeed.

Coast= blue, the central part looks light (would be more noticeable if there are more clouds there) and the right mountain range is brownish/red.

        • Ehren Rivers

While this is true, I mean there are literally symbols on the new Pokedex that are colored with France’s flag colors. When you put them all together it’s the shape of the region.

          http://serebii.net/xy/46.jpg

    • fireemblembeast

Yeah it even has the snooty nose-turned-up thing :b

    • puchinri

It should be intentional, given the inspiration is France (I think that may have been officially stated somewhere before~?). I’m diggin it.

      • Tylor Boreas Makimoto

The region map provided above is actually shaped like France. No joke, try comparing them; almost the exact shape.

        • puchinri

It looked like it to me actually, so I’m glad I wasn’t seeing things. x’D

  • ndjn3979

So…if restaurants in the pokemon world serve meat, where does the meat come from?

    • PersonaSpace

      Farfetch’d

    • drproton

      Slowpoke tails are a delicacy.

    • DesmaX

      Just gonna leave this here:

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0IOWRAKcjk

      • LynxAmali

        ……………

Crap. That actually makes sense, especially if you think about Lavender Town.

        • JustThisOne

Not quite. If that were the case, do ghost pokemon die? If they do, what do they become? And if they don’t, does that mean the world will become saturated with ghost pokemon in the far future?

          Many questions. Many questions!

          • Suicunesol

I think they’re separate. In the original Red and Blue, during the whole Lavender Town/Team Rocket/Marowak Murder incident, the player encounters unidentifiable ghosts that can’t be battled without a Silph Scope. After obtaining it, the player is able to properly identify these ghosts as Pokemon such as Gastly and Haunter. Most importantly, however, the Silph Scope reveals the ghost of Marowak’s mother, which is not a Gastly but an actual ghost.

So Ghost Pokemon are probably not “real” ghosts, but merely gaseous Pokemon. Gastly is specifically mentioned in the Pokedex to be made of gas, and that strong winds would probably kill them. But the ghost of the dead Marowak in Pokemon Tower–that was a real ghost.

We don’t see plots like this in Pokemon games nowadays, do we? :P Makes me wish…

    • PhilliesFlyers89

      A) pretty sure the show has pictures of pokemon as food(Magikarp I think)

      B) Its very possible to have pets that are the same species that others consider food in real life. I’m not going to go into the logic of a fictional universe, but I wouldn’t think it wasn’t unreasonable to eat pokemon.

    • JustThisOne

      Soylent Green.

      • http://wiredjungle.wordpress.com/ DrakosAmatras

Well, Gogoat does have greens on its body…

      • http://s1.zetaboards.com/Espada_of_Alexandria/index/ konpon568

They say that the flesh of a Tepig is similar to that of a human’s. But that’s besides the point. What is Soylent Green? What is it made of?

        • Dexward

          SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE!

          • http://s1.zetaboards.com/Espada_of_Alexandria/index/ konpon568

Whoever it was, s/he taste delicious! Compliments to the chef!

    • http://twitter.com/JetStreamJames James Williams

Wasn’t it explained that normal animals still exist in the pokemon world, there just not shown as often.

      • puchinri

        Pretty sure it has been.

      • Symbol de Au

        Where was this said/explained?

        • Symbol de Au

@Yellow: Is there anything from the actual series? Or an interview? Is this a double post? I know your post is in moderation so I’m not sure if I can respond to it/did respond or not.

Anyway the interview with gameinformer implies that there aren’t any real animals in the pokemon world =/. I’m going to assume there aren’t if there’s no actual proof.

“Is everyone in the world of Pokémon a vegetarian? Do people eat Pokémon? When they are eating steak are they eating a Tauros?

Masuda: There’s a lot of fruits and vegetables in the world of Pokémon. There is also a variety of snacks and various candies and whatnot that come from the different regions. The Pokémon world is much more technologically advanced than the world of our own, so perhaps there is probably a lot of different food that we can’t even think of.

One example of that is there is even a Rare candy which is an actual snack or piece of candy that can make you stronger, raise your level. There are all kinds of strange food that really doesn’t exist in our universe.”

I find it funny how he dodges around the question of whether people eat pokemon and instead mentions other foods they eat.

Also yeah I’ve seen some artwork with real animals in it since I had a trading card of weepinbell/victreebell(I can’t remember) with some regular birds in it but I don’t think that really counts.

          • Suicunesol

This wiki page should be enough of an answer:

            http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Animals_in_the_Pok%C3%A9mon_world

In many cases, real world animals are mentioned in the games and the anime, but rarely seen.

          • Symbol de Au

Seems like there’s been no real mention since Gen I when there weren’t enough pokemon to cover it, but meh. Good enough I guess.

          • NimbusStev

I remember reading that interview! It was such a disappointment because it felt like he was avoiding all of the questions, not just this one. He said he had never even heard of the Ditto = Failed Mew Clone rumor and said a gym leader would be ‘happy’ and not fired for running out of badges. Sometimes I feel like the fans have more imagination than the ones creating the games…

Here’s a link to part of the interview:
            http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2012/11/23/pok-233-mon-39-s-burning-questions.aspx

          • Symbol de Au

I was also dissapointed. He even lied about pokemon doing work since at the beginning of Ruby/Saphire/Emerald there are vigoroth moving your furniture in for you. In Firered/Leafgreen there’s a machop pounding out a building foundation for an old man. I guess he might have meant they don’t make pokemon do work like powering…power plants though.

His excuse for dodging questions is probably that he wants people to have more imagination about it instead of giving an official answer since once it’s official the fans can’t come up with their own answers. He even used words like “probably” when he gave somewhat real answers. Still he doesn’t need to do that for EVERYTHING does he?

  • Nanaki

    Chespin looks adorable!!

  • thomby

I love how some of the art is done in the impressionist style…it’s pretty.

    • puchinri

I know, right? I like that Nintendo incorporates fun art styles into stuff (from time to time).

    • riceisnice

I’m a moron when it comes to Art. Could you explain the significance?

      • SirRichard

Impressionism is a famous artistic movement from the 19th century that was started in France by a group of Paris-based artists, it’s a nice touch given that France is the base for this new region.

  • puchinri

Guh, I love that second image especially. It feels so relaxed and chic. They have the perfect atmosphere and everything going, I hope it feels like that in the game to an extent.

The image also makes me wonder about how we’ll see this image interpreted on a fuller scale (meaning, the everyday lives of non-trainers, etc).

I am so excited~. Oh, Nintendo. You really know how to make a gal hand over her wallet.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000172099718 Dominic Hunter

I think this will be where I finally jump back into the series. Haven’t really played through a PKMN game since Silver/Gold, but This one looks different enough that I feel eager to give it a whirl again.

  • http://s1.zetaboards.com/Espada_of_Alexandria/index/ konpon568

BTW, the entire region is officially inspired by France.

  • piichan

I skipped black and white since I didn’t find them appealing but I will definitely go back once X/Y is released. The era of the colored age has ended, now we enter the lettered age. All Hail Pokemon!

  • ShawnOtakuSomething
