Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Is Coming To PC

By Ishaan . May 17, 2013 . 10:35am

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is headed to PC. Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima mentioned the tidbit in a recent episode of his HideRadio podcast. The news was later confirmed by PlatinumGames’ J.P. Kellams who tweeted:

I am excited to see Rising hit the PC. BTW – direct all please direct PC MGR questions to @konami. :)

No further details have been announced regarding Metal Gear Rising on PC. Siliconera has contacted Konami for comment and we’ll update as necessary if we hear back.

How does one cut metal gears with keys?

    • http://www.themogblog.com/ Edward Walton

      By plugging in a controller.

    • Muhammad Haris

      what a shame?
People made controller on PC even before PS and xbox have one.
and fyi, you can plug ps3 and x360 controller on PC.
and god damn, even MS recommend you for using x360 controller in almost all of their console based game that released on PC.

      • Shariest

And it’s honestly the best decision you can make as a pc player :P

      • Ceci “Ruzuzu” Kiyomizu

Well I know that PC controllers exist as I game on mine but not everyone owns a controller and such.

        • CirnoLakes

Yeah, but it isn’t any harder to get one for the PC than a console.

If anything, it is easier because there are more options.

        • TrevHead

Not having a pad that costs under £30 is a crappy excuse for any (PC) gamer.

      • CirnoLakes

        >x360 controller

Here’s another thing about that, a lot of games on the PC nowadays have very plush “native” or whatever XBOX 360 support. Meaning that even the menus often have maps just for the XBOX 360 controller, even if there isn’t an XBOX 360 release of the game.

Anyone out there not believe me? Do you need an example? Tera Online is just one game with no console release that was developed specifically with XBOX 360 and PlayStation 3 controllers in mind. In fact if you play with an XBOX 360 controller, a map of said controller will appear on screen. And there are no plans for this game to ever come to consoles.

Used to be there were a whole lot of obscure and various controllers. And there still are. And that’s a good thing. But the XBOX 360 controller is by far the most popular. In fact one of the mainstays of modern PC gaming is such amazing controller support. Most PC games today have great controller support and options and a great deal of them have custom XBOX 360 controller maps.

I personally don’t think that gaming on a controller is any less PC gaming. PC gaming is all about a personalized experience, being able to game on what peripherals you want to instead of being limited to just one. In fact, if I am a PC gamer, one of the reasons is probably that I like being able to use the controller of my choosing to play games, and not just limited to a console specific controller. PCs having a much greater variety of input devices like gamepads and arcade sticks is just one of the strengths of PC gaming.

Pretty much any kind of controller imaginable exist for the PC, and there is a huge variety of them. And even for the console exclusive peripherals that were around before the USB took over, there are all sorts of adapters for every single console controller ever, even some of the more obscure ones. If I wanted to, I could play a whole lot of PC games via a SEGA Saturn controller. I also enjoy playing STGs/Shoot em Ups and Fighting Games on my PC via an arcade stick.

    • RaikageV

      Mouse.

    • Tom_Phoenix

You don’t. You use the mouse.

      • Ceci “Ruzuzu” Kiyomizu

        Never thought about that.
        I should think more.

  • KuchikiSentou

    Zandatsu with a mouse. ftw!

    • z_merquise

      “Dead on!”

      • Luna Kazemaru

        combination attack complete

  • AlteisenX

    Oh my god, yes!

  • Muhammad Haris

thank god… more japanese dev support pc now.
it’s been years since MGS 2 released on PC.
PES and SH are not enough Konami, not enough!
i hope we’ll see Castlevania and MGS 4 port on PC.

    • DesmaX

Wasn’t Lords of Shadow 2 already confirmed for PC’s?

      • Muhammad Haris

        i just checked.
        you’re right, i tought it’s only for PS3 and X360.

      • tubers

Holy crap that’s news to me!

    • Gaara D.Dragon

Not really, it’s Japanese publisher support not Japanese Dev support.

Platinum have nothing to do with the port. It’s just Konami who decided that. Lords if Shadows was NOT developed by a Japanese studio.

    • CirnoLakes

They really ought to put Metal Gear Solid 2 on Steam.

And maybe Good old Games, as well. Even low end PCs can play Metal Gear Solid 2, so that’s even more reason to re-release the game for Windows 7/8. Even old laptops will be able to run that game smoothly now. All that would really need to be done is the typical modern tweaks for modern PCs.

Anyway, I like the direction things are taking.

  • z_merquise

This is great news for PC gamers. They can now experience the “RULES OF NATURE”!

This is one of the awesome action games of this year.

    • $36487238

      Hell yeah! Finally!

I don’t have a PS3 or 360 right now so for this to come to PC? THis is going to be sweet! I only played this in a rental but now, I can finally own for the PC ;) Huzzah!

Hope they put in the 30 Extra VR Missions. :D I would to play with Solid Snake-voiced sword!

      • z_merquise

Yeah, I’m also wondering if they’ll include every DLCs here for free this time. Not sure of the Snake wooden sword because it’s only exclusive in the Japanese version (as of now).

        • $36487238

OOOOOOOOOOOOh… So no Snake wooden sword yet? Okay. Well, I hope they at least have that one. Well, even if they don’t, I’ll still get the game :) Just gotta have a good controller for the PC.

  • Pfantzypantz

Amazing news, was a bit worried it wouldn’t get on pc, but I really hope it’ll have japanese options

  • kenshee

Oh yes! I kept putting off getting this game on consoles since it would look nicer on the pc, I was probably going to snap and get it one of these weeks.

Looking forward to this a lot!

Only worry is that I might be lost on the story, since I’ve only just started playing the metal gear games, only played mgs and mgs2 hd so far…

  • http://altsune.com/ Ovada Bey

Oh! I can’t wait for the graphic mod that will allow us to fight in flowery swimtrunks.

  • Eliézer Dos Santos

This was an unexpected great news. So, I don’t mean to be greed or anything, but, about the other Metal Gears…

  • Brion Valkerion

I just want white blood. Dont know why it was changed for the outside Japan versions, especially when its part of the MGS universe.

    • DesmaX

Wasn’t white blood a characteristic of old Cyborg Warrios, and Raiden was “updated” in MGS 4?

    • Solomon_Kano

Except red blood was the way they intended it. The blood was made white in the Japanese version to keep it within its current rating, not the other way around. Even going back to the game’s original E3 trailer when it was still MGS:R, they had to remove scenes from the Japanese version to avoid getting hit by CERO.

      • Gaara D.Dragon

That’s irrelevant, Kojima worked the white blood into the game story, so in MGR the blood should have been white as well.

        • http://www.facebook.com/blake.campbell.754 Blake Campbell

And they worked in a reason why they use red blood now in the story of MGR, if you listen to some of the codec calls. The new red blood is superior to the white blood for cyborgs.

          • Gaara D.Dragon

Hideo Kojima scenario >>> Platinum scenario

          • Armane

“Censored scenario that wasn’t written by Kojima >>> Uncensored scenario that KojiPro wanted to do in the first place”

            That’s what you’re saying.

        • Solomon_Kano

As said below, they also explain red blood in MGR. So that’s that.

  • neocatzon

Now PC gamers can love Platinum games and KojiPro (again) ;D. Isn’t it a great news?

  • http://www.facebook.com/eric.tharnish Eric Tharnish

There will be fun. Had. The man in the mirror nods his head.

  • ChiffonCake

Very pleasant news! I’m super interested in MGR, but lack both a PS3 and 360. I’m interested in how the controls will work, though… but hopefully it won’t be as convoluted and non-mouse/keyboard-friendly as MGS2 apparently was.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bob-Obb/100001994017630 Jimmy Dean

I get the feeling they’re only doing this because the console version tanked and they need the extra money

    • http://www.facebook.com/honkerhonk.honkhonky Honkerhonk Honk Honky

Didn’t it sell the same amount in one week than DmC in a month?

    • AkuLord3

It actually did pretty well…don’t say dumb things that you don’t even know. Makes you look bad

    • wat_wat

Money’s always a motivator for releasing a game on a platform, but I don’t think this is out of desperate necessity as you imply. Konami’s published some PC games here and there in the past (previous Metal Gear games have been on PC, fyi,) but they’ve been making some PC moves with their recent core games. They released Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 on Steam and apparently Lords of Shadow 2 is getting a PC release as well. Kojima is always talking up Fox Engine and how it’s retrofitted for multiple platforms, namely, PC. The recent demos of the new Metal Gears were running on PC’s, so I think it’s a good indication they’re also on the way. Of course, Rising isn’t running on Fox Engine, I’m just pointing out their intent: it’s clear to me Konami wants to make a PC push. I think Rising on PC was always in the pipeline and it isn’t just to pick up slack (though, I hope it does if it indeed didn’t sell well. I actually don’t know how well it sold.)

    • Solomon_Kano

      It actually sold very well.

    • Gaara D.Dragon

It didn’t tank and it didn’t do well either.

Actually it sold “conservatively” well. I am sure they expected much more but it ended up doing ruffly the same numbers as the new Gears and GOWA, which means they realized the market for this type of action gaming is a little stagnant right now.

    • SunOatBoatMatadorQuattro

KojiPro previously said they would only port it to the PC if PS3 and 360 were a commercial success.

    • Luna Kazemaru

      thats a good joke there

  • Naux

Holy shit, I will be picking this up again. :D

  • wat_wat

Yes. This is exactly what nature planned.

  • Unlimax

As much as i want this game to come on PC .. I need BAYONETTA to come on PC .. ASAP *o* !

    • jeka69

Cross your fingers; MGR was made using Platinum’s engine, the same one with Bayonetta and Vanquish. That, and some *rumor* back then where Platinum was said to have some deal with Steam may hint that Platinum is going to port their game to PC. Don’t hold your breath though. MGR coming to PC is as good as any good news for any PC Gamers. Me included :)

  • CirnoLakes

Today is good news PC day on Siliconera.

I’ll admit, I’m so into other franchises that I haven’t even bought this game. But my PC is so in need of more Japanese games that I’ll definitely be picking it up. On day one, even.

Surely this will be on Steam. I’m looking forward to it. I’d like to see all of the Metal Gear games on Steam. And all of the Konami games, for that matter.

  • Testsubject909

    Hmm… a cutting system on PC…

Why does my mind go to The Elder Scrolls Daggerfall?

  • Göran Isacson

I do wonder if this will be sold with all the DLC things included (which is the primary reason I’m holding off on buying a console version since I want to see if they’ll release one of those rereleases with all bonus and frills included on disc), and what company is handling the port. Aren’t Platinum already busy with Bayonetta 2 and The Wonderful 101? That being said- yay for more PC-support!

  • SunOatBoatMatadorQuattro

Metal Gear Rising with cutting edge technology. It would be cut me in 2 if they did what Capcom did with Devil May Cry 4′s PC version: over 20 enemies at the same time!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5IKu27FLeg0

    • Ferrick

Oh hell yeah! Cyborg ninja difficulty perhaps ? =P

      • SunOatBoatMatadorQuattro

        That would cut deep man

        • Ferrick

and considering that the pc can render more enemies, why not leave their sliced up bodies there longer =P, wouldn’t it be an awesome screen cap to see raiden in ripper mode standing on a hill of sliced cyborgs

          • Robert Hendrie

That might not be possible if it’s code is tied into other stuff. Might also
be an engine thing that makes it happen not just a timer set to make
them disappear do to limitations of the systems

  • eilegz

    good news, more pc games

  • xxx128

Pretty smart move for konami. I wonder if they finally are coming to their senses again?

  • Kai2591

    Nice!
I’m gonna need to buy a gamepad

  • http://twitter.com/HaohmaruHL HaohmaruHL

i simply wonder why pc-only people even read Siliconera? it’s like 1-2 pc news a year on this site.
i haven’t got MGR yet, but if it’s gonna be on steam then i’d get it, if it’s xbox live than screw it.
i’m too lazy to hook up my dualshock3 to pc again though

  • SoundMatch

Goddamit, its gonna come with the DLC or something. I bought it Day 1 on PS3 and can’t help but think that I got the lower end of the deal
Well its for Platinum so I should stop b*tchin.

This would be the best PC Controls:
    Movement: WASD
    Light Attack: Left Click
    Strong Attack: Right Click
    Jump: Space
Use: E/Mouse 3 (Click Scroll Button)
    Item Inventory: C
    Use Item: CTRL
    Toggle Lock On: R
    Blade Mode:Shift
    -Drag Up/Down: Change Angle
    -Drag Left/Right: Slice
If that were the controls I would buy again.
